game crashes on startup

every time i double-click on the game icon or go into the 'start-all programs-ea sports-mvp 2005' icon, i get the initial splash screen showing clemens and the catcher and that's as far as it goes. it locks up then and is stuck on the desktop and can't be shut down with 'ctrl-alt-del' or anything. i uninstalled the game and re-installed several times with the same result. i've tried inserting disk one and clicking 'play game' and when it says to install disk 2, i've done that and it either doesn't do anything or locks up on the initial splash screen. i've re-installed directx 9.0c, i've made sure i have the latest nvidia driver, i've disabled my spyware program, etc. at first, i thought it might be because i exported my custom roster into the game without having all of the minor league roster numbers, rotations, and lineups completely filled out, so i uninstalled the game, re-installed the game, went through every mlb, AAA, AA, and A team in mvpedit, hit the 'clear rotation' and 'clear lineup' buttons, made sure there were 25 players on the roster, and filled in all of the lineups and pitching rotaions, and re-exported the .dat files into the game.

any help would sure be appreciated
