SloppyChris
Hey great release! Please forgive me because it's been brought up before, but I'm still getting some shimmering even with the high-res grass. I'm running on a NVidia GeForce 6200 LE 128MB video card, with 1GB of ram and an AMD x64 Dual Core 4200 Processor. Does this sound like my machine has the specifications to avoid shimmering? I've tried unchecking "application controlled" and enabling antialiasing, but it slowed down my game. Then I tried lowering the video setting in-game to speed everything up, but I still saw shimmering and the game was still slowed down. I have the color quality set at 32-bit (highest), image settings at 'high quality', screen refresh rate at 60hz, and anisotropic filtering set at 16x. Again, I know this has been addressed before, but I feel I've exhausted previous advice given on this topic. If anyone has any additional suggestions it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Great news for those who have my issue! With the help of Boricuapapi1885's (or however you pronounce his name) Hi Res Grass And Dirt Mod, I finally got rid of the shimmering! For awhile I had the grass changer mod installed, but the bright green carpet look of it made the grass less than perfect. I'm not going to explain my story again since most of it is quoted above, but I'll say I tried enabling every anti-aliasing and graphic enhancement feature on both my video card and game options, but still had that horrible shimmering. So I took Boricuapapi1885's mod, grabbed the grass alpha file 0000.bmp (pictured), and dragged the contrast down. Set it about -80 in Photoshop, as shown. That's it! I lost a little definition the grass, but it's worth it. This may have been done before, since I don't see shimmering in the new Fenway or Wrigley. This is a great way to install in every other park, man I'm stoked! Old 0000.bmp: New 0000.bmp: Screen: The best way to install this in every park it seems is to use his new installer, open up field0.fsh, field1.fsh, and field2.fsh for each park in eagraph, then replace 0000.bmp with your new lower contrast version. Hope this helps.
Kccitystar
And by getting rid of the shimmering you get rid of the detail by blurring it, and then you're back to the EA grass. A solid method would be to play the game at a higher res other than 800x600 or the dreaded 640x480
Smokin_Joe
Yeah that looks like you lost alot of detail. I play at 1280X1024 and still see shimmering. It still looks alot better than the default grass though.

It still looks alot better than the default grass though. I tried 1280x1024 with my video card anti-alias settings as high as possible, and I still saw stuttering. I'd rather forgo detail to completely rid myself of the stuttering. The good news though, is the method I posted can be adjusted for each user's own taste. If he or she wants more detail and is willing to sacrifice a little stuttering they can simply lower the contrast less than I did.
Kccitystar
lowering the quality of the grass would leave you back at square one with grass equal or close to the grass-changer mod
MagicHands8686
Yes, upon further review of other stadiums, I think it's just Shea Stadium that is happening to me on with this. I have a doctor’s appointment I need to go to but when I get back I’ll look into what's causing this problem. Looks like Shea. I don't know anything about stadium modding, but could it be a lighting effect? My god there's actually a kind of mod KG isn't an expert in? patsfan
lowering the quality of the grass would leave you back at square one with grass equal or close to the grass-changer mod Then there is no solution for using this mod if you get shimmering with it. Too bad, I'd love to use it but I refuse to deal with the shimmering.
The Big O
lowering the quality of the grass would leave you back at square one with grass equal or close to the grass-changer mod Not neccessarily, for my Oriole Park mod and Fenway mod, my solution to the shimmering was to reduce the size of the alpha texture to 256x256 and blurring it slightly and blurring the pattern texture. It cut down on the shimmering quite a bit and still looked like grass from the playing view. when the camera zoomed in up close it was less detailed obviously, but it didn't tax the system as much and reduced the file size for the field.fsh files. I like the way the Oriole Park grass turned out more so than Fenway but either one is a major improvement with a good compromise between detail and performance IMO. MVPOAKAS
Does anyone else have this little problem, there are dirt splotches in my infield, around every base. http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/9281/dirtsplotchesag0.jpg Wow, I swear they are Romulan Birds of Prey flying past the stadium. My best shot at reducing the shimmering is using a third party driver enhancer called nHancer (for Nvidia only). It is available at www.nhancer.com. I have a 7800GS agp. After mixing and matching so many options, currently, my best settings are AA:SS2x2, AF:16x, Trilinear opt. and Aniso. opt. ON, Force mip maps: Tri., and Quality mode. The high quality mode was very bad with the shimmering. Right now, I only see a "tickle" in the grass. Btw, nHancer is a great program. You can tailor profiles for each individual game. Just by using it, I can sacrifice details and get an extra 15-20 fps for Counter Strike: Source. Again, thanks to Boricuapapi1885 and also warriorxlegolas for your great work! SloppyChris
No matter what I try I can’t recreate this problem have you tried using a fresh install of MVP? Thanks a ton for the installer! If it helps at all I did a fresh install with the 06 mod, KC's Jerseys, and the 2x grass and dirt installer and have the same weird dirt issue at Wrigley. Also, is it possible to edit the installer for use with a different alpha texture as posted above? That would really help me out. edit: Weird, I just played a game at Shea and the spots came up in the middle of the game.
YankeexDev
So is this mod making any others peoples stadiums crash? I guess my computer doesn't have enough ram to handle the 2x grass and 2x unis at the same time
boricuapapi1885
The problem is not the mod its some of the stadiums. Some of them are not compressed. But when the the basemod installer is released it will compress all of the stadiums. Also, for the people with the spots. It was a problem with the universal grass changer. Just redownload the stadium and run my installer again and all the spots disappears. I had a problem like that with at&t. So i just redownloaded the stadium by pirate and added and my mod. and it works great.
YankeexDev
Yeah I think thats the problem. I can play in some stadiums without problems then some stadiums crash. Anyway to solve this?

UnRAR these files and your grass texture into your main MVP directory then run the Install.bat. Just make sure your grass texture is named “0000.bmpâ€. http://www.mysharefile.com/v/5402785/Batch.rar.html

Am I just delusional?

YankeexDev
Thing I noticed about the files sizes is when you install the mod the stadium size increases like 10k kb. I don't really think the files should be that big. Maybe its not compressing for me
The Big O
I like the compromise too. So making the alpha texture smaller actually helped? Yeah, the main cause for the shimmering is the contrast difference between the various pixels of the alpha texture. If you shrink the size of the alpha texture the colors will blend in together better reducing the shimmering and blurring or softening it makes it even better. boricuapapi1885
Im starting to see a huge trend with people who have nvidia cards seeign shimmering. I see none whats or ever. My video card is an ati radeon x1800xl tho so maybe ati is just better lol. but in all seriousness. If you guys want i can release a 2x version of the grass so that the people who dont have great video cards can still enjoy the realistic grass and dirt. What do yous think?
