DJEagles
Here is a new thread I thought I would start. Each day I am going to ask a different sports-related topic, and open it for discussion. Please no flaming or fighting...let's try and keep it clean. QOD: You have been granted an expansion team by MLB. You have an opening payroll of $60-70 million, and are allowed to draft one player off of each major league team. Feel free to say what city you would pick, team name, etc. I am interested to see what your 25 man roster would fill out like...be creative! Enjoy. The thread is open. sfgiantsflgators
I'm assuming we are leaving out the fact that teams can "lock" a certain amount of players to prevent them from being taken (i.e. Cain, Pujols, Santana, etc.) ARI - Brandon Webb ATL - Andruw Jones BAL - Adam Loewen BOS - Jonathan Papelbon CHI - Carlos Zambrano CWS - Freddy Garcia CIN - Bronson Arroyo CLE - Travis Hafner COL - Matt Holliday DET - Ivan Rodriguez FLA - Miguel Cabrera HOU - Lance Berkman KC - Reggie Sanders LAA - Vladimir Guerrero LAD - Nomar Garciaparra MIL - Prince Fielder MIN - Johan Santana NYM - Carlos Beltran NYY - Derek Jeter OAK - Frank Thomas PHI - Ryan Howard PIT - Jason Bay SD - Chris Young SF - Matt Cain SEA - Ichiro STL - Albert Pujols TB - Carl Crawford TEX - Mark Teixeira TOR - Vernon Wells WAS - Alfonso Soriano Had to make a couple of tough choices. jscand
I did my best to maintain the budget, but I did guesswork on some salaries. Due to budget constraints, I ended up taking Yankee minor leaguer Phillip Hughes instead of A-Rod. Due to having Miguel Cabrera and Ryan Zimmerman, I passed on David Wright and took Jose Reyes instead. Utley made more sense on this team than Ryan Howard due to Pujols and Hanfer on the team. Francoeur was cheaper than Andrew Jones. Ian Kinsler was picked due to salary, as was Brandon McCarthy, and Alex Gordon (although the Royals had no one really better anyway) ss Jose Reyes c Joe Mauer 1b Albert Pujols DH Travis Hafner cf Vernon Wells 3b Miguel Cabrera lf Jason Bay 2b Chase Utley rf Jeff Francoeur sp Roy Oswalt sp Justin Verlander sp Carlos Zambrano sp Scott Kazmir sp Jered Weaver rp Chris Young rp Felix Hernandez rp Matt Kain rp Chris Capuano rp Huston Street rp Chris Ray rp Jonathan Papelbon c Russell Martin 3b Ryan Zimmerman UTIL Ryan Freel of Matt Holiday Minors 3b Alex Gordon ss Stephen Drew p Brandon McCarthy P Phillip Hughes 2b Ian Kinsler
DJEagles
Nice job so far guys, I am working on mine, and will post it tonight when I get home from work. DJEagles
Question for Wednesday, October 24: OF Barry Bonds has decided to play the 2007 campaign, and doesn't resign with the Giants. As GM of your favorite team: A. Do you offer him a contract? B. What are the upside/ downside to having him? C. Does your team make a huge deal, if he breaks Aaron's HR record?
D-Unit
Yankees A. Hell no. B. Upsides: Random bursts of power/Downsides: Injury prone, old, steroid controversy spins off bad publicity, slow, no arm, horrible defense C. No ceremony whatsoever, burn the 755th and 756th home run ball, as well as the ones afterward.

Yes B. He couls play DH and not have to worry about using alot of energy. downside is that he could bring bad publicity and prolly cant beat out an infield hit for his life C.Yes. We are the Red Sox. jhath
Cubs A. Yes. At this point, I'll take anybody I can get that has any potential of being an above average hitter. B. Well, hes already hurt alot, so as a cub, he'll likely never play. At least itll take the attention off wood, prior, lee and company. C. Heck no. I agree with Dunit. Burn the balls... The press will, but because Barry is a bad clubhouse presence, nobody will care ala Pavano Reds A.
