USA looks impressive in its WBC debut, beat Mexico

USA showed up in the stadium and ready to play, They seems to be doing everything right, they hit the ball well, pitched beautifully and made serveral specacular defensive plays on the field as they handled Mexico easily by the score of 12-3.

Mexico acually struck first in the game, score 1 run on 1 walk and 2 hits in the 3rd inning. They added another run in the fourth by the solo shot of Karim Garcia and led 2-0 going into the bottom of the 4th.

In the bottom of the 4th, Arod walked, Derek Lee hit a double which would drive in Alex. One batter later, Chase Utley delievered another double to drive in Lee, then in two outs, Mark Teixeira hit a blooper to right field that dropped in for a RBI single for USA to take the lead.

Vernon Wells hit a 3 run homerun in the bottom of the 5th to extend the lead to 4. And that is pretty much all they needed. Jake Peavy pitched 7 1/3 innings gave up 3 run and Scot Shields relief Peavy and finished the game.

Canada VS South Africa

Before anybody asks, I will just mention it again, since there s no roster made for South Africa and they dont seem to be going anywhere in the tournament anyway. I just import a single A team as their roster. so if u see anybody that is familiar, that is why

Canada needed extra inning to beat South Africa

Canadian starter Eric Bedard could not find the strike zone is the 4th, giving 6 runs including walked home 3. Canada was fighing uphill since then and had just enough to beat South Africa in the 10th inning, 9-7.

Eric Bedard started off the game fine, tossed 3 scoreless innings. Canada score 3 runs in the top of the 4th including back to back solo homeruns by Stairs and Koskie. The trouble began for Bedard in the bottom of the 4th. South Africa loaded the bases with 2 hits and a walk, Bedard then walked the next two batter and hit the one after. Jai Lewis then hit the ball in the gap for a bases-clearing triple. Before everything is set and done, South Africa had a 6-3 lead.

Eric Cyr came in the relief Bedard and really did a fatanstic job, he finished the day with 5 1/3 innings pitched, giving up no run and no hit while striking out 4. Canada was able to capitalize on South Africa' error, scoring 1 run each in the 5th,6th and the 8th to tie the game and force extra inning.

In the top of the 10th, they scored 3 runs off South African closer Ryan Baker. Chris Reitsma came in the bottom of the 10, he gave up 1 run and had tying run on base with only 1 out, but he managed to strike out the next batter and poped out the one after for the final out of the game.

USA VS Canada

USA wasted no time to beat Canada

After the impressive over Mexico yesterday, USA come out on fire, scored 9 run in the first 2 innings and knocked the Canadian starter Adam Loewen out of the game. They beat Canada by the score of 11-1 in 5 innings due to mercy rule. This is also the first time in WBC a game is called by mercy rule.

USA did not waste much time to get on the board, second batter of the game Derek Jeter hit a solo homerun to left field for USA to take a 1-0 lead. They added a 2 run double by Wells and a 2 run homer by Chase Utley and grabeed a 5-0 lead when the first inning is finished.

They added another 4 run in the next inning and forced Loewen out of the game. Derek Jeter had a good game, he went 3-4 with 2 HR, Vernon Wells continues his hot hitting, he went 3-3 with 5 RBI.

USA started Dontrelle Willis and he did not do particularly well, gave up at least a hit in every single inning. He was able to escape with the defense behind him, the defense turned 4 double plays in 5 innings. He finish the game with 5 innings pitched, giving up 1 run on 6 hits, striking out 3

South Africa VS Mexico

Loaiza is solid, Mexico win easily

Esteban Loaiza pitched 7 scoreless innings before he ran out of gas in the 8th and gave up 4 runs on 4 hits. Mexico's offense was shut down early by South African starter Jeff Allison was able to break through late in the game, scoring 9 runs from 6th inning on and beat South Africa 12-4

Alfredo Amezaga had a big game as he wen 3-4 with 3 run batted in. Erubiel Durazo also collected 3 RBI, but he did so with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the 8th inning. Every Mexican hitters got a hit except DH Andrian Gonzalez.

With this win, Mexico is now tied with Canada with the record of 1-1. Team USA is advancing to the next round and South Africa is already eliminated with the 0-2 record. Mexico and Canada will go head to head tomorrow to determine who gets to go the next round

Mexico tops Canada, advance to next round

Oliver Perez becomes the first pitcher in WBC history to throw a 9 inning complete game* Jorge Cantu went 3-5 with 4 RBI. Mexico beat Canada by the score of 8-2 and advance to the second round of the world baseball classic.

Mexico offense off to a quick start after the leadoff hitter Rene Reyes is walked, Jorge Cantu hit a 2 run shot to right field to take a 2-0 lead. Canada got a run back in the top of the second when they loaded the base with no one out and Pete LaForest grounded into a 3-6-1 double play to score the runner from third.

In the top of the third, after Adam Sterm singled, Pete Orr laid one down right to Oliver Perez, Perez picked it up and decided to throw it to second. The ball appeared to arrive a split second ahead of the runner, but the second base umpire called it safe. Mexican manager came out to argue and was tossed after some nasty words is exchanged. However, Oliver Perez was able to settle down, he struck out Danny Klaussen and made Jason Bay grouned into double play.

Mexico added a run in the third, but they really broke it open in the 5th where Jeff Francis issued 3 walks, and they added 3 hit on top of that to score 3 runs and took a 6-1 lead at that point. Jeff Francis would leave the ball game with 4 1/3 inning pitched, giving 6 runs all of them are earned, on 5 hits and an awful 7 walks.

On the other hand, Oliver Perez was cruising through innings, although have guys on scoring position here and there, he was able to get the out he needed to. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 2 runs on 9 hits and walked 4.

Mexico will play their next game against Japan at Anahein, Oliver Perez is most likely to start that game and he will probably be encountered by the Japanese ace Daisuke Matsuzaka

Pool 2 Game 6:

South Africa VS USA

A-Rod, Rocket dominated South Africa, USA undefeated in pool play

Arod had 2 HR with 5RBI, Roger Clemens was 1 out away from a complete game shutout as team USA beat South Africa 6-3.

South Africa did all they can to make this game close, they shut down most of the USA offense except Alex Rodriguez, and they started a 2 out rally in the ninth against Roger Clemens and reliever Joe Nathan and actually had tying run at the plate.

Even though finishing the tournament 0-3, this South Africa team has nothing to be ashamed of. They almost beat Canada, losing in the extra inning. And they put up the best fight against USA amoung the teams in Pool2. This team will now head home with a lot more than they came here with.

Team USA is the first place of the pool with perfect 3-0 record. They will face Chinese Taipei in the first game of the next round, Jake Peavy is scheduled to make the start. On the Chinese Taipei side, they are still deciding whether to start Chien Fu Yang or Wei Lun Pan

Puerto Rico VS Panama

Puerto Rico wins their WBC debut in front of the home crowd.

Joel Pineiro pitches 8 impressive innings, the top 5 of the puerto Rico lineup combine to go 13 for 24 as Puerto Rico beat Panama 7-2.

Panama scored first in this game in the bottom of the 2nd when they get 3 hits in a row, but Puerto Rico got it right back in the top of the third when Bernie Williams launched a shot into the left field stand for a 2 run homer. Puerto Rico took the lead and never look back from there. Scored 2 runs on each of the 5th and the 6th inning.

Panama had plenty of oppurtunities to score to get back in the game, but they were thrown out at the plate twice, once by shortstop Cintron and once by rightfielder Curz as they fall to 0-1 in pool 1.

Pool 3 Game 2 :

Panama vs Cuba

Cuba' debut a big success. Panama overmatched.

With the whole world watching and curious to see how good this team is, Cuba beat Panama in a convincing fashion by the score of 10-2.

It was totally a team effort, they collected 17 hits including 3 homeruns all of the Cuba starter had gotten at least a hit, they scored in all but the 6th inning. Starting pitcher Ormari Romero carried a no hitter into the 6th and finished his night with 7 1/3 innings pitched giving up 2 runs. Vera pitched the last 1 2/3 innings gave up only 1 hit.
