Homer
man, just watching this series, i gotta say i sometimes if not most times wonder why they choose who they choose to sing our national anthem. but i have to admit that i'm old fashioned, and there's no better way then to do it the way it was meant to be sung. know what i mean? no offense to anyone, but i'm just not into it when the singer tries to put artistic freedom into it by showing off their vocal cords. i'm not saying it doesn't always work, but the majority of the time it just doesn't hit me right. i prefer mine the old fashioned way. am i crazy? well maybe i am, but does anyone else agree? Homer
i agree completely. i'm just not a fan of the screeching and hollering some of them attempt at time to time.
tebjr
The artists would rather they be noticed than the meaning of what they're doing. I personally think it should be looked at as an honor to sing our anthem.
Bama
Agreed, for the most part. Mo Cheeks and that girl in Portland...that was pretty cool. Here's a supplemental question...what did you think about Jimi Hendrix's performance of it?
Hory
As long as it ain't Carl Lewis singing it and it doesn't take longer than a few minutes I'm happy. I'm just not keen on the full-on Soviet-style half-hour flag-waving extravaganza with a military parade like they often do at the Superbowl. Here's a supplemental question...what did you think about Jimi Hendrix's performance of it? no, that was pretty damned cool. i dunno if anyone could deny it. it's like i said, it doesn't always work for me. but this is one of the few exceptions. D-Unit
I like that Irish guy the Yankees have to sing "God Bless America" once in a while. He should sing the National Anthem.

kgbaseball
What, an annoying, fat, scratchy voiced woman singing the most important American song doesn't turn you on?
Homer
that was the exact example of the artist putting themselves in front of the song. it was emberassing.
