The Philadelphia Phillies have relieved Pat Gillick of General Manager duties and hired Blaze Fraizer, a 24 year old wunderkid. Here is an excerpt from his first interview on 610 WIP...

Howard Eskin: I understand that you have several plans for the team this upcoming season. What might they be?

Blaze Fraizer: Well, to be honest, Ray Charles could see the changes that need to be made to this team. We have been starving for a stud third baseman for a while in this town, ever since Scott Rolen left on bad terms, so that is priority number one. Secondly, we do need starting pitching, and there are a couple names on the Free Agent market that look appetitzing to us at the moment.

Howard Eskin: Could you fill the fans in on some names that are surfacing in both of these areas?

Blaze Fraizer: Well, we have been in contact with the New York Mets about a possible swap involving, excuse me, my cell phone is ringing...(uh huh, ok, thanks a lot, that's great news, talk to you later). Well it just went through. And I am happy to announce on your radio show that David Wright is the new Phillies third baseman.

Howard Eskin: Who did you trade, or murder to have to get that deal accomplished?

Blaze Fraizer: Well it was no murder. The only killing that will occur is Wright's bat on the ball each time he steps to the plate. Omar felt that Jon Lieber and Gavin Floyd would be just compensation, plus we took $3 million of Wright's salary. I really must be going. Thanks for having me.

A Short Interview with new Phillies Third Baseman David Wright

7382.jpg

Daily News Live: David, it's a pleasure to have you as the new third baseman here in Philadelphia. Did it come as a suprise that you were traded by the Mets?

David Wright: To tell you the truth, it did come as a suprise to me, solely for the fact that they promised me to be their third baseman of the future. I guess they had a different idea when Lieber and Floyd came onto the block.

Daily News Live: What do you think the main difference between playing in Philadelphia and New York will be?

David Wright: Well, first off, the fans. They are absolutely crazy here in Philly. They want a winner out there every year, and haven't had one in quite some time. Secondly, the media pressure will be a lot less, and hopefully it will help me come into my own in these upcoming years.

PHILLIES WIN THRILLER AGAINST LA 4-3

It was the same old story, but different ending for the Phillies last night against the Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park. When the bullpen gives up a lead, the team usually falls, but the Phightin's showed their resolve in the comeback win.

Los Angelos scored first in the top of the sixth when Bill Mueller doubled and later scored on a single by Wilson Benemit. Dodgers starter Aaron Sele kept the Phillies off the board until the eigth inning when he ran into trouble.

Pinch hitter David Dellucci led off with a single and Jimmy Rollins followed with a walk. After a Shane Victorino strikeout, Chase Utley stepped to the plate. Utley turned on Sele's 88 MPH fastball and ripped it down the right field line for a RBI double.

"I was waiting on the fastball the whole time, and sure enough he gave it to me," Utley said. "I'm just happy it stayed fair."

Sele was taken out in favor of Elmer Dessens, who intentionally walked Howard, and got Wright to ground into an inning ending double play.

After Phils starter Randy Wolf went seven solid innings, scattering ten hits, and striking out two, the bullpen went on lock down. Geoff Geary, Ryan Madson, and Arthur Rhodes combined on 4 1/3 innings of shut out ball to take the game into extras.

In the top of the 11th inning, Nomar Garciaparra stepped to the plate with a man on second with one out. He crushed a 1-0 pitch from Rhodes deep into right field. Locating the ball of the bat, Victorino raced back and robbed sure extra bases away from Garciaparra and saved the game.

"Every day I just want to give my team the best chance to win the game," Victorino said. "Even if it means putting my body on the line."

Victorino could do nothing in the 13th inning when with one man on, Kenny Lofton drilled his first home run of the year to put the Dodgers up 3-1.

In the bottom of the frame, Rollins led off with a walk. After a Victorino single moved him to second, Rollins scored when Utley lined a single to center. After a Howard fly out, Wright loaded the bases with a single of his own. Pat Burrell would come to the plate, draw the count to 3-2, and walk to tie the game at 3. All Aaron Rowand needed was one pitch to hit a sacrafice fly to right to score the speedy Victorino from third.

Same old story for the Phils, but maybe this year, they can begin a new chapter.

Nice recap. I would just suggest that for the screenshots, you try and hide the yellow circle, maybe click on the player so it's more zoomed in and its easier to focus on the player in a screenshot. Nice work, hopefully you'll keep this up.

RUMOR HAS IT

Reports coming out of Philadelphia are saying that Blaze Fraizer is unhappy with the current state of the bullpen.

"In the first couple games we have been able to take leads going into the later innings, only to have the bullpen to waste the runs away," Fraizer said.

Fraizer, who has already made a blockbuster deal for David Wright is no stranger to making deals to improve the team. Sources close to the management have said that left fielder Pat Burrell may be the first to go in order to improve the back end.

"It's nothing new to me," Burrell said. "My name has been in trade rumors for a couple years now. If they don't want me, trade me."

Wheeling and Dealing

Reports have been confirmed that the Phillies were involved in a blockbuster deal today. Disgruntled left fielder Pat Burrell was traded to the Texas Rangers in return for slugger Carlos Lee and pitcher Vicente Padilla.

"After Burrell's comment, I knew it was time to get him out of the city," General Manager Blaze Fraizer said. "We now have a proven slugger in Lee and some long relief help in the form of Padilla."

"I am excited to come back to Philadelphia," Padilla said. "The fans always treated me well, and I hope they can bring out the Padilla Flotilla again."

The Phillies have also announced the signings of veteran relievers Chris Hammond and John Halama. In order to place both pitchers on their rosters, Fabio Castro and Aaron Fultz were demoted to AAA.

SECOND HEART-STOPPER IN AS MANY DAYS

It seems as if the Dodgers and the Phillies are like classic Michael Jackson. They only deliver thrillers.

Jamie Moyer, who pitched masterfully through the first four innings of the game, collapsed in the later frames, giving up a 3-0 lead.

The Phillies gained a 2-0 lead in the second when Chris Coste singled in two runs. One inning later, after Jimmy Rollins led off with a triple, Shane Victorino knocked him in with a sacrafice fly.

In the fifth, four straight Dodger hits tied the game, led by Nomar Garciaparra's two RBI double. Los Angelos took the lead as Toby Hall launched his first home run of the year over the right field wall.

Down two going into the bottom of the ninth, the Phillies needed some magic. After Jeff Conine singled with one out, Rollins followed with a single of his own. Victorino added one of his own, capping off a splendid day at the plate going 2 for 4. Gagne's second pitch to Ryan Howard ended up in center field for the game winning hit.

Ryan Madson (1-1) picked up the win in two scoreless innings of relief.

NEW AQUISITIONS PACE PHILS

The Phillies won their fourth straight game behind their new aquisitions.

In the fourth inning, David Wright connected on a Derek Lowe (0-1) sinker for his second home run of the year. It was a two run shot.

"Lowe was pitching us pretty tough through the first couple innings," Wright said. "I just was looking for something inside, and I got the sinker. I turned on it."

Wright hits a 2-R HR in the fourth

Two frames later, Wright singled Shane Victorino to third base with two outs, and Carlos Lee ripped a single into center field to score Victorino. Aaron Rowand drove in his fourth run of the year with another single to plate Wright.

The Dodgers made a game of it after J.D. Drew scorched a Brett Myers (2-0) fastball into the right field stands to make it 4-2. Myers went seven innings, scattering five hits, allowing two runs, while striking out three.

In the eigth, it was Wright who hit an RBI single to score Utley from second to give the Phillies their 5-2 lead.

Chris Hammond pitched a scoreless inning in relief, and Tom Gordon closed it for his second save.
