WinnieThaPujols
I need help! This is the conundrum: I'm finding it incredibly hard to find a good balance of CPU Batter's swing frequency... if it's too low, they take too many pitches; so many to the point where they start leaving a lot of mistakes just sitting there, and where they start starting out constantly (eg: 3rd strike looking with the bases loaded and 2 outs!). However... when it's too high, they swing way too much. This is a huge problem, because they seemingly swing at the first pitch half the time. This butchers any chance of a realistic pitch count, and it eliminates any chance of me throwing walks. Plus, it's really hard to strike people out... I'm convinced a datafile edit is the only chance I have. Basically what I want is a passive approach early in the count, and an aggressive one with two strikes. Is it possible to do that with the datafile? And even though they'll take pitches, I'm going to juice up their sliders so that when they do swing, they're pounding the balls. I'm looking at things to tweak like "WARM_HIGH_1s" -- does that translate to a "High pitch in a warm zone (eg: not a hot or a cold zone) with one strike?" This is under discipline. But then what it something like "COLD_MED_02?" What the hell does "02" stand for? I don't think I"m viewing this the right way. I'm looking at the Excel datafile modding thing, but it does really elaborate on what does what... please help!
UncleMo
I'm looking at the Excel datafile modding thing, but it does really elaborate on what does what... please help! We do need a MUCH MUCH better tutorial. That is why I ceased from trying to mod it myself. Ever. Anyone want to make a better tutorial?
kgbaseball
I have the exact same problem, and it's starting to get annoying. How in the world can they swing at the first pitch strike if the Swing Frequency is at -45? MaddiesDaddy would be the guy to talk to for a better tutorial. WinnieThaPujols
I just tried MD's mod with sliders (which are heavily tweaked for the datafile included with MVP 06). Anyway, mixed results. I threw 86 pitches through five innings (DEFINITELY a good thing), but I gave up 11 hits and 8 runs! I was using Harang. Maybe the pitch count just seemed high since I gave up so many hits? Although it did seem like I was getting into some battles. To me it seems way too easy to pitch like 7 or 8 innings every start in franchise.
kgbaseball
Well that can be fixed by adjusting fatigue. I use MD 3.0 and as recently as a few days ago I was giving up a lot of hits (but also getting a lot of hits). I fixed that by lowering CPU and Human contact and I've gotten good results. My pitch counts are never terribly high (what's the point of throwing an 0-2 ball when I know they won't swing at it?)

My pitch counts are never terribly high (what's the point of throwing an 0-2 ball when I know they won't swing at it?) I'm getting very close to finding good sliders. Personally, I make the game very difficult. I'm playing on All-Star and my Pitcher Meter Difficulty slider is at -20. The idea is that you can rarely rear back and throw 100% effectiveness, because it's so hard to throw a strike. It's even difficult to throw a strike when I go like 80%. What happens is that I don't throw balls on purpose. I'll just sit around the edge of the strike zone and I'll miss with regularity. I really like that... But then I keep their Swing Frequency at -7. That way, they'll swing at some of those balls everyone once in a while, and you can get them to chase pitches out of the zone for strikeouts. It's hard to abuse, because you can't just sit there and pound them a curveball in the dirt (like you could with MVP out of the box), because your control isn't good enough to do that. And then their hitting is juiced up so if you stop painting the corners, they hammer it. It just seems like they go in streaks where they start swinging at the first pitch constantly... it's really weird.
