ChicagoCubs720
Well, ok, I turn on my computer today to find that my monitor is not working, or so I thought. I unplug my monitor from my PCI Nvidia GeForce FX5500 128 MB Ram and plug it back into the integrated video slot. Good, at least I now have a 640x480 desktop. So I go to turn on my integrated video (Intel Extreme Graphics crap), and after I do that in the Device Manager, the GeForce decides to pop up. I click on properties and it says that 'this device was unable to function properly'. So I roll back the driver, and restart my computer. Monitor is blank. I plug it back into the GeForce slot, monitor is blank. I then decide to turn on my TV, and there is my desktop. I then have to change the video settings of the card and switch them from my TV to my monitor (I don't know how the heck it got switched in the first place), which was quite a task on the grainy, blinking display on my TV from the card. Now everything is fine, or is it. Something like this has happened twice before, one time where it twisted and contorted the screen across the monitor on to the TV. So, I've had enough. I bought this card on EBay for like 60 bucks. It just goes to show you, the cheap thing is always expensive. So can someone give me some suggestions on a new card. I don't have an AGP slot or a PCI-express slot, just PCI. I want something relatively cheap, but reliable.
goirish34
I feel your pain 720. I also have a pci only and so far I have had pretty good luck with ATI 9250, Its runs mvp, madden, rfactor and nascar 2003 pretty well. You can find them now for like 75 or 80 bucks
ChicagoCubs720
it happened again. I turned my computer on, and I had the same problem stated in my first post of the thread. Has this ever happened to anyone?

DustinTheWin
I only have PCI, so I am very limited that kinda sucks, i suggest if you want anything good out of pci, you will probably find the most expensive pci there is because it would probably be the best...even then it will probably suck

ChicagoCubs720
new egg is the way to go... I've looked, but I haven't found a way to only search for PCI cards. I also wanted some input from fellow MVP Baseball players. If there is anyone out there who has a PCI card and plays MVP, could you tell me your card, maybe show a screenshot and share other info like if there is shimmering grass or stuttering? goirish34
thank you! does anyone have any of these cards? how do they perform? Sorry 720 i was at my office late, didnt see your reply. Yes I have this card and I do run the game rather well with some help. I had to use kc's 1x uniforms and I also had to use the universal grass changer. I do run everything maxed out though and other then a very little shimmer throwing from 3rd to 1st it works rather well. It will never match up with pci-e or even agp, but until I buy a new system, it does the trick. I tired visiontech's 1300 pci, which is supposed to be better, but wow...I got horrible results with both this game and Nascar 2003
ChicagoCubs720
goirish, could you maybe show me a screen? and what was so bad about the 1300?
goirish34
goirish, could you maybe show me a screen? and what was so bad about the 1300?720...I am going to sound really dumb here, but I do no tknow how to capture a screen and save it to show you....The graphics on the 1300 were extremly blurry and or fuzzy on both games. The Nascar 2003 lagged horribly with that card and this game was like I was out drinking all night and was looking at the screen. The 9250 gives me a really clean crisp picture and detail, like I said its limited because of the bottleneck, but for what it is, Im actually pretty happy with it. I run Madde 07 , Rfactor with it, Nascar 2003, Nba live 06 and this Mvp 2005...and for being a pci...it does a decent job....Just to be fair to the 1300, it could have been the drivers also. I downloaded the new ones, but with the same results

Close the game, open up Paint. Paste the screenshot. Save it. Go to this link: http://imageshack.us/. Upload the file. It will give you a link to the picture, copy the link and paste that link in a post.

ChicagoCubs720
Thanks goirish! I have a few more questions: How bad did the grass look before you started using the grass changer? Did KC's 2X uniforms really drag down the speed of gameplay that much? Was the card easy to install? Could you maybe also share with me your computer specs? thanks for your help! My computer is 3 GHz compared to your 2.4, so maybe that will make a slight difference. If anything good can come out of this, I can at least tell people what is better a GeForce FX5500 or a Radeon 9250

I think I might just buy it from the ATI website, because it comes with free shipping, a warranty, and a $20 rebate. Hopefully it will come soon, so I can get back to modding.
