Aaron Harang has returned from the disabled list. To make room for him, pitcher Tim Bausher has been optioned to AAA. Eric Milton will slide into a long relief slot, where he will occasionally start, as Harang joins the rotation.

Reds pitched Rheal Cormier went on the 15-day DL with a strained ribcage. Lefty Bill Bray was called up from Louisville to take Cormier's spot in the Reds bullpen. Also, against the Reds, Mets closer Billy Wagner suffered a fractured arm when he was hit by a hard grounder.

The Reds lost another player to injury in the next game: Jeff Conine, who left the game with inflammation in his elbow. Conine was also placed on the DL. To take his spot, the Reds called up Ryan Jorgensen from AAA.

I apologize that the second season is not as in depth as the first one: I don't have as much time as I used to, and I don't want to spend three months doing one single season.

Current standings: Reds are 19-6, in 1st place with a 2-game lead over Houston.

In a minor league transaction, the Reds have demoted pitcher Philippe Valiquette (1-0, 8.31 ERA) from AA Chattanooga to Single-A Sarasota. They also promoted Sarasota pitcher Tom Shearn (3-0, 0.96) to Chattanooga.

The Cardinals finally ended the Reds' winning streak, which ran to 10 games, on an Albert Pujols double, snapping a 9th inning, 1-1 tie. After coming back on Jason Isringhausen in Game 2, the Reds couldn't get to him again.

After the game, the Reds sent catcher Ryan Jorgensen to AAA. In 9 games, Jorgensen went 4-for-28, good for a .143 batting average, with no homers and no RBIs. To replace him, they called up Jay Bruce, who owns a .388 batting average at Louisville.

On Wednesday, the Reds activated lefty Rheal Cormier from the disabled list. To make room for him, they returned lefty reliever Bill Bray to AAA Louisville. First baseman/outfielder Jeff Conine is due back in a few days. He likely will report to Louisville for a couple rehab games. The Reds head for Houston after Thursday's game, for a 4-game series with the Astros. When the Reds come home to play Pittsburgh after next Monday's game, the plan is for Jay Bruce to head for Louisville and Conine to join the Reds in Cincinnati. Over the weekend, Conine will rehab for a few games against the Pawtucket Red Sox.

The Reds now are 29-9, with a 6-game lead in the NL Central.

As expected, the Reds recalled Jeff Conine from his rehab assignment and reinstated him to the 25-man roster upon the return home from Houston. Also, as expected, they sent Jay Bruce back to Louisville.

After Saturday's game, the Reds designated Rheal Cormier for assignment, and reinstated Brendan Dalton from the DL. Cormier had an ERA of 6.60 this season, much worse than the 2.57 ERA that he had last season. The Reds, meanwhile, were swept for the first time this season, and have lost 7 of their last 9 games since sweeping the Nationals.

Before Sunday's game against the Padres, the Reds released outfielder Jeff Conine. With Jay Bruce and Chris Denorfia up and producing (as bench players and spot starters), there was no room for Conine. The Reds also signed free agent John Parrish, a left-handed reliever whom they needed (Eric Milton was the only lefty in the pen).

Also, Louisville reliever Tim Bausher, with an ERA over 9, was demoted to AA Chattanooga. Outfielder Marland Williams was promoted to Louisville.
