TwentySeven
What I want to do is start a new fantasy league that is slightly different from most. I will need some help with these because I'm not so good with the numbers calculations for something like this. Here is the basic idea - at the beginning of the league, each player will be issued some sum of money - for example, $25,000 dollars. Obviously this will be game money, not real. Each member of the league will have his/her own subforum on the main board - I can set all this up. So, for example I might have my 'TwentySeven' forum. There will be league officers, I will be one, who make sure that everything works out. What happens is in my forum I will make a transaction post.. For example: Aug 7, 07 - I want to buy Albert Pujols at $2,000 a stat - I am predicting that at when I sell Pujols his line for the season will be .330 AVG, .500 SLG, .470 OBP, with 30 HR. In this way, the person has bet $8,000. However, this move is not completed until a league officer approves the deal and subtracts $8,000 from the person's total. Now, say that 30 games later I decide to sell this stock. Based on the 30 games, I will have made some amount of money based on how close I guessed to what his numbers are right now and how many games passed since I made the transaction. Players can trade equal stocks with each other - For example, I can trade Johan Santana 1.25 ERA/1.001 WHIP/200K's/41BB's for $2000 each for the above post. However, the starting date applies - For example if the Santana stock was bought in July, when I recieve the stock, the stock will still have accumulated stats from July. All stocks are sold at the end of the season. At the end of the season, whoever has the most money is the winner of the league. Players with less then $25,000 will be restored back to $25K, and new players will be able to join, however all players with over $25,000 will get to keep their totals. I have yet to work out all the details, including injuries, etc, but here is where I need your help: I need a way to measure stats in addition to the game number to figure out a percentage of money to give back to the player. For example, if I bet that Albert Pujols has those numbers on the first game of the season, at the end of the season, he has those exact numbers, then I have a difference percentage of 0 - the numbers were exact, and based on that I get some amount of money over what I bet back. However, at some point, say a difference percentage of 50%, then I start losing money on the bet. I am considering making counting stats such as homers full-season required - to use them you cannot sell them until the end of the season. This prevents you from selling a stock right when it reaches the number you want. As you can see from the above bit I need a way to calculate how much money to give back... Obviously, this is a complicated idea, and it will become more clear as I set up the league, but feel free to ask me questions now.
TwentySeven
I still need your suggestions to help make this work out... Here is some more info: You can trade stocks, and the stocks do not have to be equal in value. However both players have to agree on the deal. If one player wants to trade money as part of the deal to buy another players stock, they can do this too. If a player is removed from the 25-man active roster, the player can no longer be purchased under - for example if a player is suspended, optioned to the minor leagues, or injured, they are frozen. Nobody can buy their stock. Counting stats such as home runs must still be kept until the end of the season, and stats such as batting average can still be sold whenever you want. You cannot bet on things such as the number of games a player plays in or what position the play the most. You cannot bet on a team - you cannot bet $5000 that the Yankees will go 97-65 for example. There is a trade deadline - September 1st - at that point, new stocks cannot be purchased or sold and players cannot trade stocks between eachother. Effectively, the last month of the season is frozen from transactions. The playoffs will not effect ratings, all transactions are sold at the end of the season, but before the playoffs begin. Players cannot bet money on playoff records. That is it for now, I still need your help!
TwentySeven
OK guys, here is another way you can sort of figure out what I am trying to get at: http://z8.invisionfree.com/Moneyball_Leagu...php?showtopic=7 And again, guys, I need your help. I need a way to take the actual numbers of a player and the amount of games passed from when the bet was placed and the person's guess and figure out a percentage of the money to give back. For example, say 162 games pass and the person's bet was exactly correct, I can use the formula and multiply the percentage I get (say, 162%, for example) by the bid. medric822
Hey, with all due respect, it sounds like too much work for this league to be fun. And unfortunately, most leagues end shortly after they are started. But if you were to keep the game a little simpler, it could be fun. By simple, I dont mean pathadically easy, but a bit challenging, then turn up the heat when people start getting use to it. I am in a fantasy league that goes year-round, by combining players frm past and present and have them play simulated games, and it is incrediably fun. If ever your league goes south, feel free to ask me about this league. And remember, Keep the Faith.

I am in a fantasy league that goes year-round, by combining players frm past and present and have them play simulated games, and it is incrediably fun. If ever your league goes south, feel free to ask me about this league. And remember, Keep the Faith. Well, originally I had the following idea: There is a forum, and for every post, the person would get some money, something like $100. If they spam they lose money, and that sort of thing, and people can send money to eachother. Over time, various players are auctioned off, and the point is to assemble as good of a team as you can over time. It is much simpler, but the way I saw it it didn't seem very exciting. If you feel that this is a cool idea, let me know and I'll try to work something out.
medric822
I was in a league once (it lasted about 45 minuets) where you could write stories about the players that you created, which was 2. You will be given a score from 1-3, 3 being the best. Also, you had people who were Agents, who for a fee, would try to negotiate a better contract for you. The league also had items that you could spend money on, like pitching lessing, etc..... I hope that helped you. There is a game called Out of the Park Baseball, which is used in alot of sim leagues. go to ootpbb.com for more info.
TwentySeven
Ok guys, I'm willing to give this a whirl, and I have the forum set up to have what this league will need. If you want to join go ahead. In the end I decided on the version of the league where you just try to build up a good team over time.
