Right-hander Henry Owens, who had shoulder surgery in August, won't be ready until July.

I'd change it so Carpenter comes back in August. Here is his quote from the Post-Dispatch the other day:

"The question is whether it's going to be before the All-Star break, after the All-Star break or somewhere in between," Carpenter said. "It just depends on how things go. I'm hoping it's going to be before. But everyone I've talked to has told me not to rush. I'm doing everything they told me to do. I'm not going to go overboard on stuff. I'm not going to push it and end up screwing everything up."

This is what our new GM (John Mozeliak) says about Mulder's return:

"Without putting a hard and fast date on it, I suspect sometime in May."

Again, very recent quote.

I have been hearing about Carpenter being available for "a couple of months", I'd personally put money on it that a setback happens and he doesn't pitch on 2009, but news is news, I'll edit him. For Mark Mulder, I saw on rotoworld some time recently that it's still going to be a bunch of months.

Prior supposedly will miss half the season, Chin-Soo Choo will miss until May.

Hey now, c'mon... you and I both know Prior will be lucky to deliver 5 starts all year. Glad he's SD's problem now... :D

CLE P Tony Sipp out until ASB (whoever the hell he is, lol)

NYM P Juan Padilla will not be able to return at Opening Day.

MIL P Yovani Gallardo is likely to start the year on DL, possibly return in mid-April or early-May

Updates on the injured St. Louis Cardinals:

OF Juan Encarnacion: Done for the year, likely for his career (eye injury)

LHP Tyler Johnson: Likely to start the year on the DL (short duration, strained rotator cuff)

RHP Chris Carpenter: Back at all-star break, not likely before, asuuming no major setbacks (TJ surgery). Note that Carpenter's mechanics are not as fragile as Mulder's, hence his recovery will likely be much different than Mulder's has been. But either way, he is still 3 months away from STARTING a rehab-assignment, best case scenario.

LHP Mark Mulder: May start season on DL, (Shoulder surgery), but should be a "baseball decision" (not a "medical decision") by Opening Day, meaning he will either be given an extended-spring training assignment, or a rehab-assignment.

RHP Matt Clement: Will likely NOT start season on DL, but may miss 1 or 2 starts at season's opening.
