Jeter's good, but he's not the god so many people think he is.

Eckstein won the World Series MVP awards because he was the best player in a span of five games.

so hitting .344 with 98 Rbi and winning gold glove is not good alright you convinced me anyways ill go with JD Drew

Jeter was practically the MVP this season.

David Eckstein is a horrible ballplayer that people seem to believe is god. Eckstein it is, now that Erstad's off the radar.

whos this imposter posing as seanO?????

i agree with eckstein tho, never have liked that guy.

Derek Jeter all the way...

Even I can bat 400AVG batting 2nd in the yanks...

He only have all strikes.. you don't want to walk jeter if a-rod is comming to bat next...

Jeter is a good all around player but he's SO OVERRATED...

I would like to see him batting in the spot of Miguel Cabrera... that's a hitter man, 340AVG in the "all rookies" marlins!

Most overrated is Adam Dunn. Oh sure, he'll get you the 40 Hrs and 100 RBIs. But he'll also give you a headache inducing 200 strikeouts a season. Thats practically 4 seasons worth of SO for Tony Gwynn

Ok. Lets see you bat .400 batting second on the Yankees. I really want to see you do it.

Jeter is overrated, but not because of his hitting. He is a roughly average fielder for a SS, not a gold glover. However, when you adjust his hitting for the fact that he's a SS, not a 1B or RF... Well, he had the highest VORP in the majors - VORP being a position-adjusted stat.

Barry Bonds

Yeah. Barry ".454 OBP lead the majors" Bonds. And, as we all know, on base percentage is the most important stat, and is directly tied to scoring runs.

No offense, but my vote goes to the Highest Paid Player in the Majors

Alex Rodriguez

Come on, man, you can't be serious. Overpayed, maybe, but not overrated - he's one of the five best rightie hitters in the game, and one of the best overall players in the game. Thats unreasonable. He is arguably THE best player in the game.

IMO, the title goes to a few players. David Eckstein. Bartolo Colon (just for winning the Cy Young a few years ago. A-Soriano (come on, the guy walks once every week!). Willy Taveras (.671 OPS! I mean, really). Juan Pierre (better then Taveras, but still really bad with a .713 OPS). Ivan Rodriguez (his defense is on the decline, and his offense wasn't there either. Not as bad as Pierre and Taveras with a .769 OPS)

My biggest offenders, however:

Richie Sexson - EXTREMELY overrated defender, one of the worst as a first basemen. Walks very little to the tune of a .338 OBP. His slugging percentage drives his OPS up, but walking is at least twice as important. For a first baseman, poor hitter and weak defender.

Torii Hunter - He is a good defender. But not a gold glover. His defense has declined, he is only good, not great. .336 OBP, .460 SLG for a .786 OPS. People think he is a gold-glove middle of the order hitter. He is an above average, fringe-lineup player. A solid player, but not nearly as good as a lot of people say.

Everyone calls him overrated to the point where he is starting to become underrated. Strikeouts don't do as much damage as most people think, and he walks a ton. He is a very disciplined player - too disciplined in fact ***(See bottom). He's a great player, and I'd love to have him on my team any day.

*** - How can he be disciplined if he strikes out so much? Well, he has a high OBP. Generally players with high OBP and strikeouts are very disciplined hitters - so disciplined that they end out striking out a lot because they take so many pitches and get into generally bad counts. Another sign of what I call the "overly disciplined batter" is a low batting average.

Adam Dunn: .234 AVG, 112 walks, .365 OBP, 194 strikeouts.

Another overly disciplined batter is Nick Swisher: .254 AVG, 97 walks, .372 OBP, 152 strikeouts.

Trivia Question: Which year did Jeter bat .400?

Last year, you would RATHER pitch to a-rod because his confidence was down the gutter and he K'd like what.. 5 times in one game? It was much the opposite is what i'm saying.

We are talking about the same David Eckstein that has been the best 2-strike hitter in baseball over the last two years...correct? Eckstein who had the 3rd highest Range Factor in 2005 and was near that level again in 2006?

Most overrated, Derek Jeter. I like Jeter, but if he played for Kansas City, people would be saying Derek who?
