Big_Iron
Hey guys .. I've been a long time member here. I don't post, I just read and try to learn. I am the afternoon drivetime host for the oldest affiliate on The Cleveland Indians Radio Network. We are a big sports station, 52,000 watts . carry the Cavs, Browns, Ohio State (boy what a show tommorrow .. I predicted 54-18 Bucks .. nice .. real nice) .. ANYWAYS .. I'm researching a master show for those who have the winter blahs and want to play some baseball. I'm particularly focusing on THIS site and special modders like SSoriano, Schmooz, KG and others .. the guys who spend so much time to give us maximum pleasure. I'd like to give them their due. I chose MVP 2005 because of the license deal and the utter failure of the 2K outing this year. And because the PC version can be modded by the aforementioned geniuses. I'm going to try to present myself as an expert (we lie on the radio, it's our job) .. but help me out with a few answers here so I can fake it. Throw me some tasty tidbits on the game too, to impress people that this site has this info and how it can be used. You know, maybe things people wouldn't know but the general sports fan with a PC might find very interesting ad want to try. In short .. I've found a thread but I want to confirm it with Schmooz and Soriano and such .. I tell the people in the piece .. "OK .. get yourself a copy of MVP 2005 .. then .. head for MVPmods.com .. to get the best game experience do this .. " *BAM* ... and you give me your opinions. Download A, B, C and D. I don't want to get in to Soriano's beta yet .. he's still working on it so .. just your personal opinions here. Make sure it's complete for the full experience for my audience .. people will be coming and trying this out. Also, has there ever been a definitive answer .. can this game be run at 1600 x 1200 or that high resolution has simply been left out? I believe I read you can mess with the .exe file. What is your experience with that? I read that some people find that it is just stretching the image and for widescreens (not 4:3 ratio) .. that may be OK .. but can I make the statement that 1600 x 1200 does not work with this game so you'll have to settle for .. ? Anything else you guys can think to throw in, lay it on here. We're gonna do it up for Monday the 15th. Everybody who chips in here with advice, and I can confirm with my game or my research staff (a couple of interns, don't be impressed) .. that they work (or someone who comes up with the best combination for the greatest experience) or, if somebody has the simplest yet most intense looking update that plays great and expresses it, I'll definitely be mentioning you. If you'd like to be mentioned on the air with your real name and hometown, include it. If not, I'll just use your moniker. Legends like Schmooz and KG and Soriano .. I'd like to use their real names and their nicks. I'd even like to get the phone number of one of the big modders here and put them on the air. Maybe I could PM you the private studio line and you could call at a designated time to be on the air .. or we could record it, doesn't have to be live. The Bucks are over, the Cavs are out west, the Browns are sad. I felt this was a good time to shine a good, bright light on the good folks here, see if I can help the site a little and drive some traffic here. If anyone lives around Cleveland-Akron-Columbus .. 104.5 FM, should be Monday the 15th, probably around 5:45 .. Cleveland Cavs, Browns and Indians, Ohio State Basketball and Football, High School basketball and football, including the entire state championsips in Massillon and Canton (every division) and the semi and finals of girls and boys basketball in The State of Ohio. Associated Press #1 Sports Station for 6 consecutive years in the 90's (we quit entering). This is no joke and I wanna put MVPmods and the good people here on the air and give them some pub. If you'd like to take part, chime in here. We'll be checking back through this week as we assemble the log for the broadcast and such. I'd sure appreciate the help. Remember to keep it simple when you explain the mods, tell what they do ("This changes the gameplay to be much more accurate", "This makes the grass and dirt look much better"). Remember, broadcasting is done to mostly dumb people and you have to express it in such a way to not be condescending to them but still explain yourself and how, technically, to achieve a great MLB experience with MLB 2005. Act like you are speaking to a child. Lowest common denominator to attract the largest audience. Thanks again and we'll be looking forward to your responses. (Instead of making 14 posts on the site, spread the word around the boards so everybody sees this. If this works out and we get a good result, we may start a regular segment for people Jonesin' for baseball.)
kgbaseball
That's a heck of a first post! Makes me wish I lived in Ohio to hear it.
Big_Iron
Well, I've learned if you keep your mouth shut you learn a lot more. And sometimes things get so technical here, I'm lost so I just keep quiet to keep the impression that I'm an idiot than respond and remove all doubt. If we get a good response and it works, I'm gonna hit the upper management to make a nice monetary contribution to the site. I feel that would be the proper thing to do. I tell ya what I could do is archive the broadcast and host it .. and when somebody says "DUH .. uh .. what's a mod .. how do I .. " then somebody can just post a link to the audio archive and hear the segment that explains it if we can get a definitive, asbsolute. Of course, this will be obsolete as time goes on but .. will give people a place to start .. to HEAR somebody explain how to ..
BigDom
WOW sounds like a great idea and a definite plus for the site... cannot wait to hear that segment!!!
DJEagles
If you want to talk to anyone, it is Kraw. He is the one responsible for MVP 2007, complete overhaul of the game. Also, Trues is the founder and creator of this great site. He is also a modder in his own right.

Big_Iron
OK .. thanks for the info. Is 2007 a finished product .. at least in a form I can tell people .. this is what you do and it would be a good, valid experience?
DJEagles
Yeah, my bad Hory. That's what I meant when I typed it. There are many, many guys here, who have made such a difference in this game, and they are all remarkable. I look forward to hearing how this goes, and nice to see you posting...hope to see you around more.
DJEagles
http://www.wtam.com/main.html# or http://www.wknr.com/ Is it either of these stations? Also, what is the legal issues about discussing the modding of the game?
UncleMo
Have kraw on your show. Interview that sucker. Hook us up with a link to your show. Can we hear it online at work or home? Can you record your show and hook us up with a link to the mvp 05 plug? And say, for example, I have to visit family in Ohio. Do you broadcast to metro Cinci? I have to go to small town Milford, Batavia area sometimes.
carter
There have been so many mods over the past two years it's a difficult task to select only a few. It may be best to speak more about the variety of mods that exist on this site. Almost every aspect of the game has been modded, from stadiums, to rosters, to uniforms, to overlays, etc. Some projects have been larger than others but some of the smaller mods have been the most helpful and interesting. NYM
It's no radio show about MVPmods if NYM isnt on there. lol Maybe I can explain the big book of mods and the New Years bash of 2004. :-) You know what would be a good idea? Having two of out best modders, Kraw and Hory, explain the MVP 2007 TC mod together on the air, live. I'd sure listen to that.

Hory
What I'd explain is why this 2 year old game is still popular - because of 2K Games exclusive 7 year licensing deal which froze EA Sports out of the pro-baseball video game market and has left PC users without a new baseball video game, as 2K Games has no plans of making one for PC even though they are the sole rights holder for the platform. I'd cover the MVP 06 "Total Conversion" mod which is a compilation of the best mods on the site and remakes the "vanilla" MVP 2005 into a 2006 version. It includes updated stadiums for all 30 mlb teams (including the new Busch Stadium which is not in the original MVP 2005) as well as updated uniforms, new players, updated play-by-play commentary and of course a 2006 schedule plus a whole lot more. MVP 07 will be released in 2 or 3 weeks (around the same time as EA's NCAA MVP 07). which of course will include the 2007 schedule, updated uniforms, new players, basically all the good mods they have been made since the release of MVP 06 last year. Most of the things included in MVP 07/06 are available as separate downloads, however the package is a good starting point for the newbie. Also of interest is "Total Classics" which replaces the 120-odd teams in MVP 2005 with "classic" teams from the 1908 Giants through to the 2001 Diamondbacks. Also there are other Total Conversions like Total Classics '61 & '67 which convert the 2005 game into a 1961 or 1967 game and allow players to replay those entire seasons. 1994 & 1978 seasons are also currently in development too. Hory
Huh, I explained that MVP 06/07 is a compilation of downloads, do you want me to list every single one so no-one get offended?
MarlinsMS_35
This sounds like it's going to turn out great. Please archive it, I'd love to hear it. I'd explain also mainly how much of a jump this is from EA's stuff, so they know the magnitude. I'm sure you'll do a great job. Good Luck :-D

Big_Iron
Alright .. hash it out. On Sunday night, we'll see what we got and I'll take it to the producer and we'll do a segment. Remember, guys .. this is broadcasting. Ya can't be real technical because it'll turn people off. Speak like what you are .. avid fans of the game of baseball .. a community that has banded together because they were screwed by big business. That's a great angle. THEN .. We drive tracffic here by SIMPLY explaining WHAT it is you do to make .. <insert whatever conclusion this forum arrives at to discuss as THEE MOD TODAY> .. work on their PC's that they have in their homes. Lowest common denominator. I'm not lookin' to slight anybody .. not looking to upset the community here. I'm trying to do something POSITIVE for THIS site and for THESE people. Because I respect you guys. Serious. This is a great place. Be cool. This is a positive thing. Keep it coming .. everybody ..
MarkB
I'd say the best bet would be simply to mention the site as a whole, what we do, and maybe mention a couple of the major mods, say, the top 5 downloaded, for example. Some people will like the MVP '06 mod, some will like Total Classics, some will like the individual stadium mods themselves. The only way to really get to know about this site as a community is to check it out for yourself, there's no one download or entity that can explain the whole thing. The Big O
I would also get into the site's roots. Trues started this thing after another company 3DO went belly up and a bunch of modders including Trues, Ezorn, HaloFan and Moser316 and myself among others came over from the High Heat series as MVP was the only current PC game left. The site that we all came from was HH2004.net and once the webmaster of that site, NTNGod decided not to host anymore Trues started up this site to host all the mods for MVP 2004 and then eventually 2005. Now obviously you don't have to get that specific, but the general premise is the members that started with HH and the new members that have joined to support MVP refuse to let baseball gaming on the PC die. Also rglass should get a mention as he is the one who developed MVPEdit which allows for all of the roster makers to make their rosters. He is the DangerZ of MVP. Everdever is another pioneer as he discovered that he could apply the program OEdit to modify MVP files. He hasn't been seen since we switched to the new board though...
