el_jefe061
If you're the Raiders, do you draft JaMarcus Russell over Brady Quinn? I'm a huge Brady Quinn fan (And as a Broncos fan, I would hate to see Oakland draft him) but after his big game performances, doesn't Russell look much more appealing? Russell came up big in the Sugar Bowl, while Brady seems to shrink a little bit. Russell seems like a Raiders type player anyway having the Big arm and throwing the deep ball well. Timp
If I was the Raiders, I would take Russell. In Minnesota, Randy Moss had great success with Culpepper, and I see Russell as a Culpepper with a better arm and possibly a better decision maker. Moss is good at just running go-routes and making plays that way, so Russell would be a good match for the Raiders. Although I would love to see them draft Quinn so my Lions (who decided to play good on the last game of the season and beat Dallas even though they were a sinking ship) can get JaMarcus.
bigbully
I say yes - take him. Why? Because he'll be a rookie that will be ready to start for Oakland. Will he be great? No, but getting in a full year, as a rookie, would propel him fast. I live in Baton Rouge and have watched JR for 3 years now. Despite what some say, he is a fast learner. He's a leader respected by the team. He'll go down as the best LSU QB to date. Did you know... - JR can throw the ball 85 yards - JR can throw the ball, through the uprights - from one knee - from the 50 yard line - JR can throw the ball 20 yards from his butt (try that)

Guest
Wait, wouldn't it be a tad useless to be able to throw far from the butt because you are already down and therefore sacked? The other ones are useful though.
bigbully
you might be right Dom - but the 1st 2 I've seen. The 3rd is one Terry Bradshaw mentioned during the Sugar Bowl
ronmexico
I take him with the #1 pick if I'm the Raiders because I passed on Matt Leinart for a DB. He's a great fit in the Al Davis offense, and has a must for any QB standing behind one of the 3 worst lines in football, and that is that he can scramble when needed. I would also consider trading down, because their franchise is not 1 pick away from being saved, but if I had to make the pick, it would be Russell. Brady Quinn showed me complete lack of poise his last couple games (and as an ND fan that annoyed me to no end). I think he has a good head on his shoulder, and under a good OC/QB coach he can be made into a great QB, but I'm afraid he might be an Eli Manning type (atleast what Manning is right now) when he gets to the NFL. Great company to be in. I would take Russell, though, because I believe he is the real deal. Russell has a better chance of surviving Oakland's horrendous line more than Quinn does. Quinn can walk into any pro offense and be a good QB, but without time to protect (see bowl games) he is throwing from his back.

JoshC77
Manning or Leaf? Quinn or Russell? Polished QB vs high-upside guy with cannon. Striking comparison.
adidasplaya9769
if i were the raiders, i take russell and honestly u gotta throw troy smith's name in there too... the guy is one hell of a player and he has shown that he can throw the ball and make the proper decisions while scrambling... i think that smith will be a great asset for whatever teams takes him... but if you're talking russell or quinn, i take russell
jhath
especially after the last osu game, smith is out of the question... quinn is the safer pick... he could play 15 years.... russel reminds me too much of daunte culpepper... id take quinn, every day... hes a face of the franchise player... stecropper
When my sons and I watched Russell during his 1st year Spring game at LSU I told them that he was the most gifted QB I had ever seen in my life. His stats for that Spring game outing were not good at all since the receivers kept dropping his bullet passes in their chest & hands. Those were 10 yards down the field types up to an including 40-50 yards up the field types. As an old High School QB with a true appreciation for the position I think Russell has the tools to become the best QB to ever play the game. It IS 40 yards from his Butt !!! not to mention dead center on target and like it came out of a cannon
