Is there a way to pause and go back to the desktop?

I used to have MVP Baseball 2003... and while I was playing the game and somoene instant messaged me... I'd press the windows button on my keyboard and it would send me back to my desktop so I can answer my friend. Then when I was done I'd click on the MVP Baseball tab on my toolbar and the game wud open up again from where I was. When I installed MVP Baseball 2004... it wouldn't work nemore. I'd press the windows button and it would send me back to my desktop... but when I go to click the tab on the toolbar it won't let me back... the game will go to load but then exit. I've tried holding ALT+TAB but that does the same thing... is there some way I can be playing the game and then get back to my desktop to answer an IM and then be able to continue my game while being in the middle of it?

not sure but it does - I've always been able to do it too... MVP 2003, NHL 2004, Madden 2004. But trust me, it has to do w/your card and MVP 2004. This bug has been known for awhile
