lyon810
Its abolsutely disgusting the amount of homeruns my pitchers give up. I have played about 35 games thus far this season, and have given up about 60+ homeruns. What makes this stat even worse is that I hardly ever give up runs any other way except via the long ball (haven't given up a run that wasnt a homerun in my last 14 games). I know I am responsible for all the homeuns given up, but its hard to avoid them with hitters are crushing pitchers that normall wouldnt even leave the infield. To top this all of, I have given up 12 homeruns to opposing pitchers at bat. What can I do? (plz dont gimme the generic response of "throw better pitches", cuz the way Im going right now Im hardly hitting the strikezone and their taking me yard)
drbeep97
throw some pitches out of the strike zone... actually... throw alotta pitches out of the strikezone (every pitch should have a good mix of in the zone and out of the zone)... limit your fastballs (do not attempt in real life)... throw everything down... don't be afraid to go "too far" inside... atleast try not to stay over the plate... throw most of your pitches outside and if all else fails... play on an easier level
joelsut
Keep the ball low in zone. Even if the batter has a red zone, keep it low. Breaking balls low rarely get hit hard. Fastballs should be kept inside, off the plate. Good Luck.
lyon810
I do throw low a lot, and I always, at the begining of every AB, check back on that hitters game history against me, to avoid pattern which I know computer picks up on. The pitches that I do throw low or wtv only hit about 30%-40% of the strikezone and they still crush them. I am still leading my division, so bringing it down a notch maybe isnt the best answer, Im just most pissed off about the fact that pitchers are destorying me at the dish, and Im giving them close to nothing to hit. drbeep97
throw pitches out of the zone on purpose... cuz if you only throw strikes than the cpu knows that i can swing at pretty much anything... make it so that they have to decide if it's a strike or a ball before they swing don't know if you already do this... but i'm under the impression that you don't
lyon810
I do a bit, but not as much as I should. Thanks gonna give it a go right now

lautrec
Another that has helped me, is I turn down the CPU's swing frequency a bit. From what I've seen, they don't swing quite so much at the "on the black" pitches, and you can set them up better with throwing off the dish more, then bringing it back down the middle. I average about 7-8 K's per game with a strikeout type pitcher, and I get 2 or 3 with those who aren't. I am also getting better ground balls and flyballs. Something else I've discovered: Watch your pitcher very close the first couple innings. Some games, he will be "high" up in thestrike zone, and some games, he will be low. Pitch to those particular games. For instance, if he's trhowing high, and you're still getting some strikes called,,,,keep you fastball up in there, push it in tight. As your guy gets tired, it will start dropping and you'll get killed. Just be aware of your pitchers stamina, and once you start getting to that 55-50% zone, things are gonna change. Make adjustments. You can't pitch high, and youcan't hang it out over the plate at that point. Another thing, that really helps me, is TURN OFF all the cheats. No strike zone, no hot/cold zones, no pitch cursor. It should look like it would in real life. This will help you get a "feel" for the strike zone, and the pitcher/batter relationship better than anyting. I think the cheats make you reliant upon them, and your expectations are thus related. If you turn all the crap off, you are FORCED to learn how to really pitch in this game. Good Luck
lyon810
Well I just finished losing (and being swept) by the Mets 5-3. I had Dave Bush pitching, and for the first 4 innings, the only hit I had given up had been a double to Pedro Martinez (again pitchers are hitting well off of me). I noticed I was getting more outs productively, but running into a lot of full counts, which then in turn made me stress a pitch in the zone even more. I gave 3 more walks then I usally do. Bush was worn down to 54% by the 5th and thats when it went wrong, gave up 3 HR's, all pitches that got away from him in the 2 innings that followed. So despite this HR barrage once again, I feel like I really picked something up from what you guys said, just wish Lautrec would have posted sooner cuz that tip about balls dropping more and more in that stamina range would have really helped me. But I will continue to nibble at the plate, and despite the loss and homers against me, I was nevertheless impressed with this approach to pitching and how I adapted to it early on. btw...the swing frequency meter is sky high, so I will probably tune it down a few points in order to level the playing field.
