lyon810
I was just wondering, cuz I do get picked off about every second game or so at 1st. But almost 100% of the time its because my runner at 1st doesn't respond to my control command to bring him back to first. I thought that maybe it was my controller, so I plugged it into different USB ports and this still kept happening. This even happened one day when me and my friend were playing at his place on his computer and when he threw to first, and I had already pressed the controller to bring him back on base, the runner froze and didnt move until the ball had been caught by the 1st basemen, which is then when he slid back to base and was out, like it happens in my game at home too. Is this a glitch in the game? Like if the throw is made at the exact moment where the runner is pulled back, the command to bring him back gets cancelled out? duckdodger215
This happens to me ALL the time. Probably more so than you. I've never been able to figure it out, either. It even happens if the player only has a 1 step lead.
sfgiantsflgators
If I could change one thing about MVP Baseball, this might be it. Pisses me off to no end, and it happens to me no matter how crappy the pitcher is at pickoffs or how great the baserunner is. From as far as I can tell having seen this brought up in the past, there isn't any known way to make this happen less...

carter
This doesn't happen to me very often but I am not going to lie it does happen every once and awhile (maybe once every 10 games). I think that there is a slider that controls the runner's delay. That combined with runner's ability may have something to do with this issue. Pirate
I never get picked off... there is a slider for it.

sfgiantsflgators
I was under the impression that the runner delay slider was for stealing bases and nothing else.
ntdgg711
I was under the impression that the runner delay slider was for stealing bases and nothing else. I've messed around with this and this is what I'm figuring out. When you put the "steal delay" slider more and more into the negatives, your runner will get a bigger jump - but he is more likely to get picked off because he's trying to get a huge jump and "leaning" towards second. However, if you move the slider more into the positives, the runner is less likely to get picked off but will get a worse jump which leads him to more likely get thrown out at 2nd if he tries to steal. But to counteract that you can raise the "basestealing speed" slider up so that even though he'll get a poor jump, he'll make up for it with his steal speed. This even applies for the CPU if you adjust its slider. You can actually make it easier to pick them off of base too, which is pretty sweet. You just gotta mess with the sliders. Here's mine: User Runner Steal speed: 10 CPU Runner Steal speed: 0 User Runner Steal Delay: 2 CPU Runner Steal Delay : -10 CPU Steal Rate: 18 Please keep in mind that I am still trying to find a good "mix" of these particular sliders so you will need to do the same as well. I have learned through this site and others that people might have the "perfect" sliders that work for them, but when I try to use them they just don't work for me. I have to come with my own personal set of sliders.

ntdgg711
Coming off of this a little but have you ever picled a guy off i have never managed to do so Yeah, I actually have after I started messing around with these sliders. You have to lower the CPU Steal Delay into the negatives to get them "leaning towards" 2nd base a little bit. It's pretty awesome to pick a guy off. I've done a couple times since I adjusted the sliders.
sfgiantsflgators
Coming off of this a little but have you ever picled a guy off i have never managed to do so i've done it a few times - but very sporadically (like it should be). ntdgg: thanks for the suggestions - i'll give those a try. i never thought about balancing the runner delay with baserunning speed...shows how smart i is. mvp23
I think there is an option in the game that retrieves the base runner automatically. I never get picked off unless I have someone that does not steal bases and he has big lead.
xcrunner4623
The absolute worst is when immediately after a replay they cut you off so you don't have time to react!

Yet I still get nailed as the runner just stands there jackin it. Thems the breaks I guess.
HardcoreLegend
I've noticed that my runners have been getting slower and slower jumps, even guys like Lou Brock. They are still ending up safe at 2nd base but often times I hit the button for them to break for 2nd as the pitcher starts his motion and the runner wait until the ball has almost left his hands. It seems almost impossible to be 'caught' stealing by the pitcher ie, jumping early and having him throw to 1st or 2nd. This is using the 1967 Mod.
