Martinez-Esteve Hits First Career Home Run But Rockies Win

Seventh Straight 8-5

2bakff3.jpg3hawbw8.jpg

(Top) Barry Zito struck this pose a lot today, giving up three home runs in 5.1 innings of work. He sur-

rendered eight runs on 11 hits in that span. (Bottom left) It didn't take long for the Rockies to get to

Zito as Jeff Baker hit a two-run shot with two outs in the first inning. (Bottom right) Brad Hawpe added

a three-run home run in the sixth to give the Rockies a 7-1 lead. They would hold on to win their sev-

enth straight game 8-5.

4emeuj3.jpg

Eddy Martinez-Esteve, who made his major league debut two days ago, picked up his first career hit

tonight in the form of a solo home run to left field. The pitcher he will be forever linked with: Jeff Francis.

Scoring

T1: Baker two run HR

B1: Feliz solo HR

T4: Lopez solo HR

T5: Taveras single scores Tulowitzki

B5: Winn single scores Lewis

T6: Hawpe three run HR; Holliday sacrifice fly scores Matsui

B6: Molina solo HR

B7: Martinez-Esteve solo HR

B9: Niekro solo HR

W – Francis (2-1) L – Zito (1-2)

Game Notes:

Rockies pitcher Jeff Francis also gave up three home runs; but they were all solo shots.

im just curious, if possible, can i see lincecum's stats? he's been red hot for me in my game. like im most curious about his so/bb ratio

http://sfgiantsflgators.tripod.com//Player...ncecum_Tim.html

His K/BB hasn't been very good thus far, but neither has he.

His K/BB hasn't been very good thus far, but neither has he.

thanks for posting that 27 :D

you're right about lincecum - after getting his first two saves, he had a hell of a rough patch. seems to be coming back to form though...guess them's the breaks when you're a rook.

Any rumors regarding player movement swirling already, this early in the season?

I've thought about that aspect of the dynasty...

...and I think I'm going to keep trades off and only use players within the system. So the only player movement will be promotions/demotions within the organization (i.e., Ishikawa and Martinez-Esteve).

Soon - maybe tomorrow - I'm going to look over the minors and promote/demote as I see fit. For instance, Begg will probably be promoted to Fresno to see how he handles that.

The major league team is set for now I think (despite the offensive struggles) - with the exception of Linden returning in a day or two and Ortmeier having to go down when that happens.

Cain Does It All as Giants "Cook" Rockies 10-1

51endrj6.jpg

1fraci6.jpg

The first two Giants runs were driven in by pitcher Matt Cain, who plated Mark Sweeney and Kevin

Frandsen (pictured) with a bases loaded single in the bottom of the second.

2bondxj9.jpg

Barry Bonds hit two two-run home runs for the Giants today, raising his league-leading total to 11.

3tulwg1.jpg

Troy Tulowitzki reacts after striking out for third time, earning the dreaded "hat trick."

4dpfd6.jpg

Jeff Baker grounds into a double play in the top of the sixth - one of four Colorado double plays in the

game.

5cainxm6.jpg

Matt Cain wasn't spectacular tonight, surrendering 14 hits to the Rockies in a complete game effort.

But he buckled down when he needed to, holding Colorado scoreless until the ninth inning as he pick-

ed up his first complete game of the season. He also went 2-4 at the plate today, driving in two runs

and scoring once.

Scoring

B2: Cain single scores Sweeney, Frandsen

B3: Bonds two run HR

W – Cain (2-2) L – Cook (1-5)

Game Notes:

Colorado left fielder Matt Holliday left the game in the top of the eighth after breaking up what would

have been the fifth GIDP for the Rockies in the contest. Colorado trainers were supporting Holliday's

shoulder as he left the field. No details were available following the game.

Player of the Game:

Barry Bonds 2-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI

Matt Cain 9 IP, 14 H, 1 R, 4 K; 2-4, 2 RBI

Linden To Return Tonight

SAN FRANCISCO, Cal. - After watching from the sidelines for the last 15 days, Giants right fielder Todd Linden will return to action tonight in the rubber match against Colorado. Linden was placed on the 15-day DL after pulling his groin on April 16 against the Rockies.

"I've been 100% for a few days," said Linden in an interview this morning. "It wasn't really a bad injury to begin with, but we wanted to be safe since it's so early in the season. I look foward to getting back at it."

Linden was hitting .277 with a home run and two RBI before the injury. Dan Ortmeier was sent down to Triple-A Fresno to make room for Linden.

Minor League Roster Moves

In addition to the roster move made by the big club, the Giants organization did some mix-and-matching at the lower levels as well today. Those moves are:

Justin Leone was promoted to Triple-A Fresno from Double-A Connecticut.

Leone went .419/.517/.595 with the Defenders, hitting two home runs and driving in 13 in 74 AB.

Chris Begg was promoted to Triple-A Fresno from Double-A Connecticut.

Begg posted a 4-1 record with a 1.54 ERA in 35 IP with 33 strikeouts and eight walks with the Defenders.

Ryan Meaux was promoted to Triple-A Fresno from Double-A Connecticut.

Meaux went 0-1 with a 1.47 ERA in 18.1 innings of relief while striking out 18 and walking three for the Defenders.

Carlos Sosa was promoted to Double-A Connecticut from Single-A San Jose.

Sosa went .315/.370/.457 with one home run and five RBI with the Defenders.

R.D. Spiehs was promoted to Double-A Connecticut from Single-A San Jose.

Spiehs went 1-0 with a 1.21 ERA in 22.1 innings while striking out 18 and walking 10 with San Jose.

Oscar Montero was promoted to Double-A Connecticut from Single-A San Jose.

Montero went 1-1 with a miniscule 0.62 ERA in 29 innings with 26 strikeouts and five walks with San Jose.

Anthony Pannone was promoted to Double-A Connecticut from Single-A San Jose.

Pannone went 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA in 32 innings with 26 strikeouts and eight walks with San Jose.

Justin Hedrick was promoted to Double-A Connecticut from Single-A San Jose.

Hedrick went 0-2 with a 2.83 ERA in 28.2 innings with 27 strikeouts and six walks with San Jose.

Mitch Wylie was demoted from Double-A Connecticut to Single-A San Jose.

Wylie went 1-1 with one save and a 5.91 ERA while striking out 17 and walking nine with the Defenders.

James Garcia was demoted from Double-A Connecticut to Single-A San Jose.

Garcia went 0-4 with a 5.11 ERA while striking out 16 and walking eight with the Defenders.

Jon Armitage was demoted from Double-A Connecticut to Single-A San Jose.

Armitage only got eight ABs with the Defenders, but collected just one hit and struck out three times.

No problem. I loved that screenie of Zito. Not because he was getting shelled, but it looked kinda like a professional photo.

i liked that one too - it kinda gets old posting the same ol home run shots, so i thought i'd try something different to switch it up.

Rockies Blast Five Home Runs, Take Rubber Match 10-2

52endta4.jpg

1tavgz8.jpg

After reaching on an infield single in the top of the first, Willy Taveras was picked off first by Noah

Lowry.

2lopuw2.jpg

Javy Lopez heads to first after hitting his first of two home runs on the night. The second-inning solo

shot gave Colorado a 1-0 lead.

3frayw6.jpg4fraqr4.jpg

(Left) Kevin Frandsen drove a two out pitch from Taylor Buchholz deep to left in the second inning, but

only got a loud out to show for it as left fielder Ryan Spilborghs tracked it down just short of the wall.

Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki looks on. (Right) Frandsen wouldn't get cheated in the fourth though, getting

enough of another two out pitch from Buchholz to clear the wall for his second home run of the season,

tying the game 2-2. That would be all the runs San Francisco would score in the contest.

5linbu2.jpg

Todd Linden looked 100% tonight in his first game since returning from the 15-day DL. He went 1-3 at

the plate and, more importantly, showed that his groin was healthy again when he sprinted into the

right-center field gap to rob Ryan Spilborghs of a hit in the fifth inning.

6hawju0.jpg

Brad Hawpe capped off a four-run sixth inning for the Rockies with a two-run home run, giving Color-

ado a 6-2 lead.

7bochep7.jpg

Bruce Bochy could only watch helplessly tonight as Rockies hitters continued to pound out hits against

the Giants pitching staff, collecting 16 on the night in a 10-2 victory.

Scoring

T2: Lopez solo HR

T3: Helton single scores Taveras

B4: Frandsen two run HR

T6: Baker two run HR; Hawpe two run HR

T7: Lopez three run HR

T9: Baker solo HR

W – Buchholz (1-1) L – Lowry (3-1)

Player of the Game:

Javy Lopez 3-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 3 R

Brad Hawpe 3-5, 2B, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R
