Starting Pitchers:

Starting Lineup:

lineuptb6.jpg

LOS ANGELES, Cal. – After dropping the series opener against the Dodgers, losing 5-1 thanks in large

part to a grand slam by Russell Martin, the Giants look to $100 million man Barry Zito to keep their

hopes of taking the series alive.

Zito has been everything Giants fans could hope for so far, posting a 1-0 record with a 2.93 ERA in four

starts. In his last outing however, Zito struggled, allowing six runs on nine hits – three home runs – in

a no decision versus St. Louis. The Giants won the game 7-6.

Zito faced off against Los Angeles on April 19, allowing just one run on seven hits in 8.1 innings; but

the Giants lost the game 5-4 in ten innings.

Zito has never pitched at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers counter with Derek Lowe, who has yet to win a game in 2007. He is 0-1 with a 3.51 ERA

in four starts. Lowe also started the April 19 game, allowing one run on just three hits in seven innings.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm PST.

rofl, if the actual Dodgers used that lineup there'd be riots in LA.

Am I missing something? The only non-regulars I see are Saenz and Freeman...and Freeman is the only one that's really a questionable decision as Gonzalez should be playing.

But Saenz is hitting .417, so it's probably not a bad idea to stick with someone that's hot.

there's not a lot actually wrong with it but you'd like it to alternate between lefties and righties. Also, Saenz is terrible at defense. He's much better as a pinch hitter. No idea why Freeman is playing.

Looks good sffl, Great Dynasty, I think that your roster is better for 08 which is what sabbean should be doing but he still wants to win one now, which isnt gonna happen, otherwise he would have made more moves this offseason!

yeah, that's true. i put gonzalez in since he's at 100% energy - i had just assumed he was tired when they started freeman yesterday...when i did that, it was somewhat more balanced between lefty and righty; but not ideal.

if Sabean would have put this roster out this season, i'd take another sub-.500 year. but now I'm just going to have to throw up when the crap he put together this season does just as poorly.

linden and frandsen should be starting now - both have been held back too long. ishikawa is just a favorite of mine, so he got the nod over the other first base options (sweeney, aurilia, niekro). and I'm done with Feliz - he's nothing more than a platoon guy...the reason he hit so poorly last season is that he was wore out from starting so much. he's a 120 or so game man, tops.

Lowe Takes Perfect Game Into Ninth, Leaves With Injury After

Frandsen's Single

425endsp9.jpg

1lowcg2.jpg

For the second time in 2007, a Dodgers pitcher took a perfect game into the ninth inning against the

Giants (Randy Wolf, April 6) as Derek Lowe was perfect until Kevin Frandsen singled with one out in

the ninth. After a pitch out during the next at bat though, Lowe had to be pulled as an unknown injury

brought down a wall of silence from the home crowd. He would pick up his first win of the season, but

there has been no word on the extent of the injury.

2kenhs3.jpg

Jeff Kent hit a solo shot in the second inning off Barry Zito, giving the Dodgers their first of three runs

on the game.

3molld9.jpg

In a perfect example of how things went for the Giants today, Bengie Molina puts his best swing on a

pitch from Derek Lowe in the fifth inning; but only got a broken bat and a ground out to show for it.

4franje6.jpg

Kevin Frandsen (pictured) put an end to Derek Lowe's perfection bid with a one-out single in the top

of the ninth; but the next hitter, Mark Sweeney, grounded into a double play to end the game.

Scoring

B2: Kent solo HR

B4: Gonzalez single scores Furcal

B5: Ethier solo HR

W – Lowe (1-1) L – Zito (1-1)

Starting Pitchers:

pitchere5.jpg

Starting Lineup:

lineupdj5.jpg

LOS ANGELES, Cal. – Help us out here kid.

In danger of getting swept by the hated Bums, the Giants turn to young stud Matt Cain to stop the

bleeding.

Cain started out the season well, holding the opposition to no more than two runs in each of his first

two starts. In his last two outings, however, Cain has given up nine earned runs in 11.2 innings of

work. In his most recent outing, Cain gave up five runs (four earned) on nine hits in 6.1 innings versus

the Diamondbacks on April 20. The Giants won the game 6-5 in 12 innings.

“He’s still very young,†said manager Bruce Bochy. “And with that youth, you get up and down perfor-

mances like he’s had so far. But he’s one of the best young pitchers I’ve seen; and he will get the ball

every fifth day as long as I’m around.â€

Against the Dodgers in his career, Cain is 0-2 with an 8.56 ERA in three starts. At Dodger Stadium, he

is 0-1 with a 10.12 ERA in two starts.

Brad Penny will take the mound for the Dodgers tonight, hoping to replicate what his teammate Derek

Lowe did last night – near perfection. Lowe took a perfect game into the ninth before surrendering a

single to Kevin Frandsen; and then the stadium went quiet as Lowe had to leave the game during the

next at bat after developing a hernia. He is expected to miss at least a month.

“The pain was there all game,†said Lowe. “It started a few days ago, but it wasn’t anything major. But

when I threw that first pitch to [Mark] Sweeney, it got a lot worse real quick.â€

Penny is 3-1 this season with a 2.77 ERA. In his eight-year career, Penny is 2-2 against the Giants with

a 3.75 ERA in 13 appearances (12 starts).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm PST.

according to that last picture you got posted, it seems like the Dodgers dont have a lot of fans going to their games, lol.

who'd wanna go watch a bunch of bums anyway? :D

truthfully, having the crowd turned off has turned into a superstition of mine. since i did it, back in the TCM days, the crashes i used to get have all but disappeared (knock on wood).

so i'm afraid to try to turn them on again. they look like crap anyway (not a modders fault of course - all EA), so it's not something i miss all that much.

thanks for checking in :wtg:

say it ain't so, Lowe.

i'm afraid it is. damn shame really.

yeah, looks like Joe Mays is starting now for dem bums. KC and Milwaukee still look invincible.

i still don't know what KC is thinking with German at 3B and Gordon sitting in the minors. i wish they'd call the kid up. but hey, guess you just stick with what works until it doesn't...

Giants Held To One Hit, Shut Out For Second Straight Night As

Dodgers Finish Sweep With 3-0 Victory

426endai9.jpg

1marmn6.jpg

Matt Cain didn't pitch poorly, but made more than zero mistakes; one of which was turned into a solo

home run by Russell Martin in the third inning. The blast was all the Dodgers needed as the Giants off-

ense continued to struggle.

2penga8.jpg

Brad Penny was lights out for Los Angeles tonight, allowing just one hit in a shutout effort. It was the

second straight night the Giants had been held to just a solitary hit and failed to score a run. Their

scoreless streak is now at 23 innings.

3garcb9.jpg

With one on and two outs in the ninth, Randy Winn appeared to have a sure double in his sights; but

a great play by Nomar Garciaparra ended the game and secured the sweep for the Dodgers.

Scoring

B3: Martin solo HR

B4: Garciaparra grounds out, Furcal scores

B8: Kent single scores Furcal

W – Lowe (1-1) L – Zito (1-1)

Game Notes:

The Giants 1-4 hitters went 0-13 with nine strikeouts in the game...the lone Giants hit was a Fred Lewis

single in the third inning...After starting the season hot, Randy Winn is just 2-18 in his last five games

with zero RBI.

Player of the Game:

Brad Penny 9 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 11 K
