Darkslide820
While I await my copy of the game, I've been thinking of historical teams that I'm going to make. As any historian would know, there is the highly likely scenario that a player may appear on more than one of these teams (ex: Babe Ruth on 1918 BOS & 1927 NYY). I wanna know if there is a [simple] way to have a player be on different teams. Obviously Babe Ruth is one of the unlockable players; will I be able to "copy" him so that I can put him on 2 different teams without having to manually edit another player's ratings? Thanks. redsox
Lahman's database is a software that contains all the players that have played in each team even from the 1800s. They are very accurate and so are the stats. MVPEdit can be used to import this lahman's database and will let you edit it. One thing to keep in mind is that the Lahman's database imports 50 players while the game can handle only 25.
Darkslide820
The Lahman thing has MVP ratings, or is it a roster database? I can get yearly rosters from whatifsports.com. What about the duplicate thing?
redsox
You will be able to have duplicate players using MVPEdit. Lahman's database comes with the most accurate stats. What it does NOT provide are the ratings for each player. I don't know how whatifsports.com works. If it just provides you with stats and you would have to enter those in manually then Lahman's database is so much better. The steps to import the database in MVPEdit are so simple. It takes at the most 5 seconds.
Darkslide820
OK, is this how it works?: Instead of me finding players with matching Height/Weight and then manually naming players as I did when making historic CAPs on XBox, importing Lahman's will adjust ht/wt/names for me, and also add in BA, RBI, SB, etc stats just as EA did when they made the game? Then what do I have to do? Give players their MVP ratings, portraits for when they're at bat? Skin color, face, hair?
redsox
I am not sure about the height and weight part. I will have to get back to you on that one. In regards to the stats - Yes, the database will import all the stats of the players for the teams that you are importing. From memory, the only thing you will have to do is give the players the pitching/batting/fielding ratings. You will also have to enter their audio id as well as their cyberface id. Hope this helps. Do I also have to make their faces/hair/body proportions? You will also have to enter their audio id as well as their cyberface id. You mean so the game will say a player's name? If so, cool. I wasn't sure how in-depth I wanted to get with giving the players life-like cyberfaces, but I definitely wanted to give them portraits for when they're at the plate or when I'm looking through roster lists in the game. Darkslide820
OK, folks. This is another thread I made before I got the game, so now that I have it I'm revisiting this issue. I'm using the Washington Nationals as my All-Decade team for the 2000s, so I put players from various teams onto the Nats. However, I also want to use some of them for other teams as well. For example, Mariano Rivera is now on the Nats/2000's team, but I also want him on the All-Time NYY team and the 1990's team. So how do I go about making another two copies of him? If I make different ratings for different "versions" of the same player, will they actually stay different or will any changes I make take effect on ALL "versions" of the player? redsox
Step 1: Goto file->export->players and choose Rivera as the player that you want to export. This will create a .mep file for you (save it to the place of your liking). Step 2: Goto file->import->players and choose the player that you just exported. Step 3: It will then ask you to choose the team that you want to add that player to. You will be presented with two options - add or replace. If you choose to add that player, keep in mind that you would need to take another player off since MVP supports only 25 max per level. That is it. You are done. Also, if you make each player with different ratings, that is fine. The same player with two different ratings will show up. Hope this helps. Darkslide820
OK, that's what I was expecting. Only problem is that now I'll have a ton of .mep's lying around. That's what I was trying to avoid. Can I delete a .mep after I've imported the player? If I choose "replace," will it allow me to choose one player to replace, or will it do it automatically? I ask about changes taking effect globally because I once tried to delete Philip Hughes from the Future Stars team*, and he got deleted from the Yanks' AAA team automatically. That's why I'm stuck now thinking that every change I make will appear on all instances of the same player. Thanks again. *this was when I tried to replace the FS teams in MVP 07 with the Legends/Heroes teams from MVP 2005
kgbaseball
You can delete it afterwards. You want "add", not replace. Replace replaces the whole team with that player.
redsox
You can delete the .mep file after you have imported the player into your roster. The way I usually do it is I add the player and then just delete the player that I don't need. I have replaced teams before but not a player. I think if you create a duplicate of the player, then deleting the orignal of that player will not delete the duplicate. One thing I would recommend you do is make a copy of your .mbe file before venturing into deleting players. If something does go wrong, you can always revert back to a workable file and not have to start over again. EDIT: Sorry about the false info. regarding replacing a player. Thanks KG for correcting me on that.
