bob44
Game #1 Los Angeles vs. San Diego. This was an ugly game, Brad Penny is having a rough season. Penny goes 6 2/3 giving up 7 runs and 10 hits. He falls to 0-3 on the year and his era rises to 5.97. Padres take game one 7-2 and after 7 wins in a row, the Dodgers are on a season worst 3 game skid. They still hold a slight lead in the west at 14-9 with the Diamondbacks creeping up at 14-10 just 1/2 game behind.
bob44
Game #2 against San Diego, the Dodgers bats come alive !!!! The blue crew hits 5 home runs and scores 10 runs off of 15 total hits . The 3-game skid is over with a 10-3 victory over the Padres. Ramon Martinez with a rare start, coming in for the struggling Wilson Betemit at 3rd........hits 2 solo home runs. Randy Wolf has been amazing this year. He moves to 4-0 with a 2.10 era on the season with his 6 inning, 1 run, 5 K's performance today. My top 3 starters only have 3 combined wins (Lowe 1-2) (Schmidt 2-1) (Penny 0-3) and #4 Wolf has 4 !! One of Nomar's two Home Runs on the day !!!! bob44
Game # 3 against San Diego. Brett Tomko gets robbed a victory. He pitched 8 innings of shutout 3 hit baseball. With a 3-0 lead and going for the complete game shutout, Tomko gives up a lead-off single and then a 2-run shot from Terrmel Sledge. Saito comes in for the save, gets the first 2 out quickly, then gives up a game tying solo shot from Adrian Gonzalez !! Game ends up going 12 innings and the Dodgers win 5-3 thanks to series MVP Nomar Garciaparra and his 2 run 2 out double in the top of the 12th ! Broxton comes in for the save and Saito gets the win. Dodgers now head home to face the Diamondbacks, who are only a 1/2 game behind the first place Dodgers. It should be a good series, stay tuned . He moves to 2-2 on the year and keeps the Dodgers on top of the west with a 3-1 victory. The Dodgers recorded 19 hits, 16 of them coming off starter Randy Johnson ! They had the bases loaded at least 3 times, not being able to score. The score could have been more like 10-1. Olmedo Saenz got the start at 1st base to give Nomar a rest, he went 4-4 to raise his average to .611 in limited play this year. He has been great coming off the bench, and great with spot starts. bob44
Game #2 Los Angeles vs. Florida. Dodgers get back on track with a 10-4 victory over the Fish. Today was Wilson Betemit's day. He went 3 for 4, with a double and 2 home runs. He had 2 runs scored and 6 rbi's !! Nomar hits another homer also, #11 on the year. Brad Penny struggled.......giving up 4 runs and 10 hits in 7 innings work, but the offense got him the win, to put him at 2-3 this year. LA is building a huge lead in the West........while they have won 9 of 10, the 2nd place D-backs have now lost 8 of their last 9 and have fallen to 7 games behind. Wilson's Big Day !!!! bob44
Game #3 Los Angeles vs. Florida. Dodgers continue their winning ways with a 7-4 victory over the Marlins. Randy Wolf (5-0) struggled at the start of the game, but settled down and pitched 6 innings giving up just 2 runs and 6 hits. He ends up with the no decision, because with the Dodgers up 4-2 in the 7th, Mark Hendrickson gives up 2 runs and 3 hits in just 2/3 innings pitched. The Fish tied it up 4-4 and Wolf said goodbye to his 6th win. LA comes right back with a run in the 8th and 2 in the 9th. The one-two punch of Broxton / Saito finished up the game easily, Saito earns save #10. Dodgers lead the series 2-1, with game #4 scheduled for tommorow. Rafael Furcal continues a horrible 0 for 19 drought. Look for Ramon Martinez or Wilson Valdez to start at SS tomorrow and give Furcal some needed rest.
