The Giants jump out to a quick 3 run lead when Barry Bonds jacks a 3 run shot off of starter Brett Tomko. Dodgers chip away and get a 5-4 lead going into the 6th. Then LA breaks the game open with a 5 run inning to go up 10-4. Nomar hits his 30th homer of the year tonight. Brett Tomko is a ridiculous 12-2 on the season now. LA holds off a small Giants rally in the bottom of the 9th to take this one 11-6. Brett Tomko hits Dave Roberts here in the bottom of the 4th after Noah Lowry hit Tomko in the top of the inning. Lowe pitches a complete game shut-out giving up just 3 hits and throws 7 K's. He also goes 2 for 4 with a double, home run and 2 rbi's. Andre Ethier goes 4 for 4 with 3 singles and a double with 2 rbi's. LA sends out Jason Schmidt tomorrow for a chance at the sweep. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The Giants come up with 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th for the crazy victory. Jason Schmidt pitches well through 7 innings and leaves with a 4-2 lead. LA adds insurance runs in the 8th and 9th to go up 6-2. Saito comes out looking to pick-up an easy save, but everything goes wrong. First 3 Giants all single to load the bases with no outs. Next Pedro Feliz hits a ground ball to 3rd baseman Nomar Garciaparra. He attempts to throw home for the force out, but its wild and goes right past Martin to the back stop. The error lets 2 runs score to make it 6-4 and now SF has 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Next batter Randy Winn, BOOM 3-run walk off shot into McCovey Cove, Giants win 7-6, Saito doesn't even get 1 out and earns his 1st loss of the season. This was a good game, unfortunately the Phillies take it in 10 innings 6-3 and LA loses their 2nd game in a row. Penny pitches well, but leaves after 7 with the game tied 3-3. Rudy Seanez comes in for the 10th and gives up 3 runs without getting an out. Chase Utley goes 3 for 5 with a single, double, triple, 3 runs and 2 rbis. Ryan Howard goes just 1 for 3 but has 4 rbis from a 2 run homer and 2 sac flys. The 1st place Phillies are the second best team in the NL behind the Dodgers and look to give them a good challenge. Everyone in the starting line-up had at least 1 rbi except Furcal and Loney. Wolf struggled a little but pitches well enough to earn his 12th win of the season. Matt Kemp has a great game filling in for Ethier. He goes 2 for 3 with 2 runs, 2 rbis and his 13th homer of the year. LA will send Tomko to the mound tomorrow to try for the series win. Philly jumps out to a quick 4-0 lead in the 1st off of Brett Tomko. LA fights back to take a 6-4 lead after 4 innings. Philly ties it 6-6, the Dodgers go back up 7-6, then in the 8th Ryan Howard hits a 3 run blast off of Chad Billingsley to put the Phillies up 9-7. Bottom of the 8th LA gets back to back solo shots from Martin and Loney. Then bottom of the 9th Garciaparra hits a walk off solo shot to win it 10-9 and take the series 2 games to 1. Jonathan Broxton pitches a scoreless 9th to earn the victory, he is now 5-1 on the year. Next the Dodgers welcome the New York Mets into LA for a 4 game weekend series. Nomar Garciaparra hits his 31st home run of the season in the bottom of the 9th to win this wild game 10-9 !! LA had a 5-0 lead, but the Mets make it close with runs in the 7th and 8th tonight. Derek Lowe pitches great once again and Saito gets another save. The biggest hit of the night came from Andre Ethier when he cranked his 17th homer of the year in the bottom of the 6th with 2 outs. It was a 3 run shot and put LA up 5-0. He gives up just 2 runs on 11 hits and recorded 7 K's. Nomar has a huge game going 2 for 4 with a triple and homer. He bats in 4 runs to put his season total to 100 RBI's after the Dodgers first 97 games. Jason Schmidt gets in to some early trouble, but he got out of every jam he faced today. The game was tied up 4-4 in the bottom of the 8th and Russell Martin hit a 2 out 3 run homer to put LA up 7-4. Brad Penny had a rough game, but pitched decent. Saito gets his 30th save of the year. Moises Alou kept the Mets in the game going 3 for 4 with a double, homer and 3 rbis. The Dodgers will go for the 4 game series sweep tomorrow with Randy Wolf on the mound. LA was up 4-1 and Saito gives up 4 runs, Mets win it 5-4. Wolf pitched well for 7 innings and Billingsley pitches a scoreless 8th, but Saito blows another one and earns his 2nd loss of the year. The go ahead run in the 9th was when David Wright tripled in Carlos Delgado. LA travels to Houston for a 3 game series starting tomorrow. Rafael Furcal strikes out swinging on a fastball from Billy Wagner in the bottom of the 9th to end the game. Astros go into the 7th with a 3-2 lead, but LA comes up with 4 big runs, 3 of them from a Matt Kemp pinch hit home run. Brett Tomko just keeps winning, tonight was # 13. Joe Beimel pitches a scoreless 8th and 9th to earn his 3rd save of the year. Dodgers have now played 100 games, they are an amazing 74-26. LA comes up with 3 in the 8th and 2 more in the 9th to seal the deal. Derek Lowe had the start, it was a good one, but he leaves in the 7th with the game tied 2-2. Scott Proctor pitches 1 2/3 innings in his first game as a Dodger and picks up the victory. The Dodgers will send Jason Schmidt out for a chance at the 3 game sweep tomorrow. Tempers fly here as Phil Garner argues a play at 3rd base in the top of the 8th and he gets thrown out of the game. It was 2-2 at this point. Jason Schmidt gets close to another complete game, but got in trouble in the 9th. Saito came in to stop the rally for his 31st save. LA's 3 runs came on 3 solo homers from Furcal, Kent and Ethier. Roy Oswalt pitched well for the Astros but didn't get enough run support. LA travels to Colorado for a 4 game series next. Luke Scott strikes out looking against Saito to end Houston's rally and the game.
