Petition/Letter to EA; Re: Expanded rosters?

I was playing a quick exhibition tonight to try out KCCityStar's new uni's (which are great, btw) and I wanted to use some minor leaguers and have a little Spring Training-esque game (basically use a bunch of players who probably won't see the majors for an extended length of time and make a bunch of substitutions). Anyway, I had to go through the whole call up/send down stuff and as a result fix some of the batting orders and pitching rotations that were thrown off by the roster moves and it was really annoying.

So while I was playing, I was wondering if it would be worth it to put together a little letter to shoot over to EA that a bunch of us here would "sign" asking them to release a patch that would allow 60-70ish players (or however many start out in an ML training camp) during exhibition and spring training play and also to address the September call-ups issue. I don't think they would do anything if we asked them to make more stadium slots because that's making it easier to mod the game, which is probably frowned upon to a certain extent. But to release a patch addressing the rosters is simply making an improvement on the existing game that would be enjoyed even with the default rosters that came with the game (ok, we all know that it wouldn't really be fun to play with a bunch of computer generated players, but hypothetically it could be played that way). Does anyone this it's even worth it to try this?

Man, I completely agree with you and wish that was true. Imagine how accurate rosters could be if more than 25 players were allowed on minor league teams. Unfortunately, it won't happen, as EA doesn't even have the MLB license anymore, and probably would never bother with MVP 2005 again.

Man, the development teams for the newer MVP titles are different than the guys who developed 2005. If this was possible it would be cool but it isn't, unfortunately.

That's a good point I didn't consider.

It just seems like (if possible by the people working at EA) this would be an update that wouldn't have any negative implications on them. Would they still need the licenses to do this even though it's just a patch to the .exe file that wouldn't actually affect the players themselves? In other words, we wouldn't be asking EA to make new rosters, just give expanded capabilities for what's already there. I suppose kg is right, though... to update the game at all, even if it's just the engine, is probably off limits because of licensing.

So would you guys say it's even worth a shot to try sending something over, or should I/we just forget about it?

(Thanks for responding, btw. I appreciate the feedback and also appreciate that it wasn't an attack for bringing up something that probably wont' happen.)

They should shoot out a patch that updates the game as requested, including other improvements...and just leave all aspects of the MLB to the great modders on this site! That'd be soooo sweet! They have to know we're all dying for a really good baseball game.

I'm not sure. I'm wondering, since it would be updating a game that the MLB/MLBPA/MILB licenses were needed for to create and release; but it also wouldn't have to affect any of those parties (i.e. we're not asking for new uni's, logos, etc).

But again they would need to use names of players. This is why Barry Bonds was not in the game out of the box. Since they did not have his permission. (he is not part of the MLBPA)

I don't think they would need the names, though. There isn't a reason for them to edit the actual rosters, just the format of them. We're not asking them to add players or update rosters; we're asking them to restructure them. The overall total number of players could remain at 100, because there aren't minor league games during spring training mode, and by the time September rolls around, if your minor league teams are in the playoffs, the game can just give you the warning that you need to have 24-25 players on your roster for those teams to be able to play.

So anyway, I don't think players would need to be of concern with this mod/patch. Is this making sense now? Or am I still unclear?

They could use fake names...and then free roster patches could be issued to add real names and cyberfaces in.

but if u want it like spring training for an exhibition take out pitchers you dont plan on using and put in prospects instead.
