stcardinal
I was just wondering with all this talk about Dak's gyroball (even though he really doesn't have one), is it in this game?
TwentySeven
No, it's not. Even if he had a gyroball, we couldn't have given him a gyro, because thats part of the physics stuff and its hard coded into the game. However, a similar pitch (some of us have decided) is a screwball, so you could edit him to have one.
RaptorQuiz
Well, a current pitch of his might be able to be modified to "act" like a gyroball, by using MVPedit (etc) to edit the speed and trajectory of one of his current pitches to something you can't USUALLY do with the in-game editor. (I mean drastically altering the trajectory on a splitter or screwball, etc). I'm not totally sure what the "gyroball" is supposed to do, so I wouldn't know which pitch would be best to edit to make it similar to it. Gyro Ball, from Wiki: The unusual method of delivery creates a bullet-like spin on the ball, like a bicycle tire spins when facing the spokes or a perfectly thrown football. When thrown by a right hander, the pitch moves sharply down and away from right handed batters and towards left handed batters. In baseball, most pitches are thrown with backspin, like the fastball, or with a more forward spinning motion, like the curveball and the slider. superciuc
you can edit the gyro, but nobody trows a gyroball today
SESbb30
its nothing like a screwball, if a righty throws it it breaks down and slighty away from a righty batter, and same thing for lefties. away from the lefty batter.
el_jefe061
I'd read the gyroball article by Jim Caple on ESPN.com. It basically says that, yes, the gyroball does exist, but in different capacities. It's creator intended for it to basically be a glorified changeup, it was not suppossed to move at all. When it's been taught again, it's been done correctly and didn't move very much. It was also said that Pedro Martinez has thrown it before, but unintentionally, because the gyroball turned out to be a "backup slider", basically when he threw his slider wrong. So in other words, the gyroball is a weak slider or a glorified changeup. I was disappointed too. Gyroball Hunt
philliesphan18
It's not gyro related but it is related to Dice-K. Can we give a pitcher 6 pitches in MVP like he throws (not counting gyroball)?

Again, no. This is hard coded into the game also, unfortunately.

medric822
Well, by reading that quote from wikipedia, isn't more like a cutter?
philliesphan18
I read in Sporting News it is like a screwball but thrown sorta like a football. That is if it is thrown correctly, it mostly ends up like a weak slider or glorified change-up, like el_jefe061 said.
skibz
yeah from what i've read. the perfectly lateral spin of a gyroball should cause the ball to drop like a splitter but with the rotation of a slider. all in all, a gyroball's still just a myth designed by a graphic novelist in japan that people are trying to bring to life. MarlinsMS_35
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sboi0EWp8ao&NR Hmm, It really just looks like a sick Sinker, but nothing else. Nothing we've never seen before.
el_jefe061
I'm telling you guys, read the article. The Gyroball is nothing, and I'm pretty sure that video is mentioned in the article as being his slider.

Nothing we've never seen before. that's not a gyroball. It's a shuuto or basically a splitter. IF he were to throw a gyroball it would be some kind of mix between a slider and a cutter, but with more abrupt movement. Either way, he himself said that he doesn't throw one. This whole gyroball thing is blown completely out of proportion. Especially when ESPN started to run with the story -- they overdid it ... like most of the subjects they handle. Chuck10112
Baseball pitches are a dime a dozen. I saw that clip and that pitch doesn't look like anything extraordinary. It just looks like a sick 2-seam fastball, (a sharp quick break towards the pitchers throwing hand side). 145km/h=87mph so it's too fast to be called a screwball. HardcoreLegend
What make sthe gyro supposedly so good is not it's movement, but the deception of the spin. Because it is basically 'moving in two directions' it appears to be one thing and ends up another. And yes, it's a glorified slider.

Looking at this, if I were going to put the "gyro" pitch with Dice-K in the game, I think I'd give him a 12-6 Screwball, with about 92-93 velocity and maybe 5-6 movement. It looks like a tight screwball. Or even a diving 2 seamer.
