Play, Manage, or Simulate?

All of you guys who have the dynasties here, do you play the majority of your games or do you manage or simulate. I myself have a dynasty going but i do not post it online.

As much as I love playing the game, I find myself itching to reach the end of the year so I can go into free agency to improve my team. I am one of those guys who tries to manually keep everyteam accurate to real life for the first season then after that let the computer take over.

So pretty much, do you play all of your games?

Well, before my old dynasty was lost, I was into 2010, and played over 800 games. Lots of fun. Hardest part is start of the season, before all star voting, and directly after the summer classic.

I play all the games up to the all star break. Then I just play rivalry and division games. Sometimes Ill play an odd series if the match ups interest me say 1st place NL team. I play all the playoff games obviously.

I agree.. starting off the season is definately the worst. Im only 20 or so games into my new season and it seems like it has taken forever!!! But the games are starting to get a little more fun to play so this is a good sign.

beerha,

I think my style of play is pretty much like yours. I love the off-season, and the improvement aspect. I love to start very accurate, adhering to the team's budget, then trade and sign my way to getting better. also, developing players in the minors. i do indeed itch to get to the end of the season....and I don't even like the post season that much.

Here's what I do: I typically play just about very inning of April's games, to get a good feel of my players, make adjustments, etc. Then, I start simming games, until like the 7th inning, then I intervene and finish thegame off manually. that way I can play about 5 or 6 games in less than an hour, and still feel like I have a good handle on my team.

Also, you can capture your boxscores in this manner with Boxscore Extractor, and run good stats. The other benefit is I find my overall season stats seem to get more in line with the other teams. If I play all my games, I never seem to strike out enough batters....but using my sim 6,7 innings, then play the rest, I get a pretty good statistical output. Plus, I feel like it really lets the team do what it will.

I love this method, because it gets me to the next season, and I can do the fun stuff, YET keep a good feel on my team.

I play very accurately. I play 2/3 of MLB games, and the third game I sim, but instead I play three innings of the minor league games. That way I get to see my prospects play too..

So a schedule could be:

Game 1: MLB Play, sim minors

game 2: Play 3 innings of each minor league team, sim MLB

game 3: play MLB, sim minors.

I play every playoff game.

99% of dynasties I do:

Play first game of series, sim others.

Sim minors.

Play all playoff games (majors and minors).

My current Giants dynasty:

Play all MLB games.

Sim all minor league games - including minor league playoffs.

I play 1 out of every 5 games, switching witch pitcher's start I play each time through the rotation. Sometimes I'll also intervene in the late innings of a close or tie game because I don't trust my closer (at least not in my current dynasty where Pineiro leads the league in saves but also in ERA).

I use most of the above methods, but I also add a third. I sometimes will manage, play, and play CPU vs CPU all in the same game. I like to see how each game's "personality" plays out. I may start out with the gamepad, go to CPU vs CPU, then finish with the gamepad. The most difficult part of this is creating good settings for the CPU stuff. Too much hitting on all difficulty levels. I set sliders for what I think will produce low run games, but the CPU continues to bomb away.

I play only classic games-I play all of the classic dynasty games and sim the minors. I have played over 1000 dynasty games start to finish. I love to see how my averages change during the season. I also create myself and put myself on the teams-I just finished '61 and batted before Maris and Mantle.

Oh, yeah, that's what I was forgetting. Occasionally I play CPU vs. CPU with special view settings and everything sort of like watching a real game on TV. That is especially fun in the offseason when you can't actually watch baseball.

I find that the longest part of the season is the last part of the season for 2 reasons:

1) For example, in 2009, I clinched my division early and just had to go through the motions until the playoffs started. My biggest concern at this time was not winning games, but I just didn't want any players getting injured. I wish the rosters expanded in September.

2) Late in the season I usually have an idea of what changes I want to make to my team for the next season and I get anxious to skip ahead to the off season.

I usually sim the first month, just so the players can accumulate some stats. Then from there, I play one game per series, sometimes two game of four game series. Other than that, I sim minor league games, minus the odd AAA game here or there, just to play with some of my prospects.

If I try and play every game, I get bored quickly and just simulate to the off-season, but I find playing one game of each series is a pretty good compromise for me.
