On the plus side, every single stadium is done at this point except Comiskey, and CC720 is working on that now. So for once, we're not a stumbling block, woohoo!

Those are only the 25 High Level Basic Steps. Each Step has a fair amount of more detailed steps associated with them ----- that is why this is a 2-3 month (on average) project for me.

Here is an Example of the more detailed steps that complete Step 6 "Global Tweaks" above:

GLOVE COLOR:

Use Plate Discipline for Brown & Light Brown then set Black individually

PD = ( 15, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 3, 1 ) = Brown

PD = ( 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 0 ) = Light Brown

BAT COLOR:

Use Fielding Rating for 7 colors then set Black "8" (Dark/Red) individually

FD = ( 15, 7 ) = Light Brown

FD = ( 14, 6 ) = Dark Brown

FD = ( 13, 5 ) = Red

FD = ( 12, 4 ) = Black

FD = ( 11, 3 ) = Light Black

FD = ( 10, 8, 0 ) = Dark Black

FD = ( 9, 2, 1 ) = Red/Black

SWING TYPE:

Use Throw Strength

TS = ( 15, 10, 5 ) = 1

TS = ( 14, 9, 4 ) = 2

TS = ( 13, 8, 3, 0 ) = 3

TS = ( 12, 7, 2 ) = 4

TS = ( 11, 6, 1 ) = 5

I don't even know what to say after all that...

...the respect I had for you total conversion modders just went up about 1000 percent.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Co-signed 100%.

Holy KRAP Don!! You're crazier than me ;-) Thanks very much for posting all this info. Incredible stuff.

And SeanO - at least we've pretty much got all the ballparks 8-)

I do think 1951 - because of the history - would be a great season to do. We just need to figure out how to get the guys in the clubhouse in center to relay the signs whenever the Giants are playing at home ;-)

Yea, this is Fun Stuff for us Classic Nuts !

The purpose of those "Global Tweaks" are to get an appropriate distribution of Ratings based on EA's original roster set.

When MVPEdit first was developed ( a true work of genius by Robert Glass in my opinion - who I will always feel a great deal of gratitude toward ) it was a rush against the clock to get some of those formulas developed off of the available information in the Lahman Data Base. So even tho Robert tweaked it a few times there after it does need a bit of help after importing. That is why I do these Global Tweaks - which are based on hours upon hours of research and testing.

Then comes the "Individual Tweaks" which are really extensive as well. That is a disciplined process of looking at each individual rating (i.e. 0-15 or 1-100 depending on the rating category) position by position and making sure the better players as well as the worst players are rated accordingly as some of the information in the Lahman Data Base made producing those formulas out of MVPEdit a real creative thing for ratings such as Throwing Strength; Accuracy; Range; Bunting; Speed etc etc.

Then after those I guess the indivdual personality traits such as Batting Stance; Pitchers Delivery etc or fairly time consuming (but once again very fun!) followed by trying to get as close of a likeness for a cyberface. And then would likely be the Pitchers Pitch Types tweaking as another time consuming process.

Most of the others go fairly quickly but those mentioned above take the bulk of the time.

I would love to work toward a "Standard (at least Guidelines)" for Roster creation that would encourage others to undertake more of these Full Season Mods. The more the better in my opinion ---- and the more available close in years even make newer versions even that much easier. Especially with Robert's new version of .mbe roster migration utility.

I have created a rough plan for Comiskey Park:

tigerstadium1938do6.png

I have removed all the crowds temporarily in CF and I will fit the lower sections of them back in later. That whole area in CF needs to be re-worked and the scoreboard will be added. I also have to remove the pressbox-like structures that sit on the upper deck overhang. I need to move the wall in CF in a little (Sean O could you maybe help with collision data later on?) and move the bullpens there. Also, the lights need to be changed.

I hope this doesn't turn me into a sox fan :toothless:

That's interesting, stecropper. Using unrelated fields to randomize stuff like bat colour and swing type is something that definitely hadn't occurred to me.

The only globaledit I perform consistently is

height < 71= Bodytype small

and height> 74 = bodytype large,

to take advantage of the three different height models in the game. Other than that, I do each player individually, which may explain why my 1992 rosters have taken two and a half years!!

Davidc,

1992 would be a very welcomed addition to these Full Season Mods. Your 2 1/2 years of working on that season will serve it very well I am sure.

Hopefully you will be releasing it when complete (although as you well know these full season rosters are never really "Complete" and are always a work in progress).

It really is not necessary to have a Full Conversion Modded Season before releasing something. The Roster file itself is a Great piece of work to release when ready. Then secondarily to that would be the associated models.big & uniform.big files if different from those already available and likewise the Portraits.big if available.

But it is my opinion anyone that has a very playable Season Roster file should release it so others can enjoy it as well as join in on bringing to life the surrounding bells & whistles .........

Take Care,

Don

Actually, Don, right now, I'm "compatablizing" it to work with MVP94, so it uses the same cybers, portraits, etc.

I had another one of those "happy accidents", as well. I had TC6 installed when I copied over the files for the install of MVP94, so I actually have, in my own version of 94, portraits for all sorts of guys (Brett, Ryan, etc.) who were retired by 1994, but were still playing in 1992.

If you look in the lib folder where you extracted the TC6 installation files, you will find a file named "Total Classics Phase6 Portrait IDs.xls". I put this spreadsheet together as we were developing TC and updated it as we moved from one phase of TC to the next. This spreadsheet contains a list of all of the portraits included in TC6, sorted chronologically by team and then by player last name.

In addition, if you go to the bottom of the spreadsheet, you will find a list of extra portraits (i.e. ones not used) that were included in the TC6 portrait file.

Also, I can attest that the global tweaks that Don listed do really help the rosters produce realistic results. As I've been working on the '78 season mod, I've simmed the 1978 season a number of times with my rosters that have been adjusted with Don's tweaks, and it's amazing how closely the results at the end of the simmed season mirror the actual 1978 results (division winners, batting and pitching leaders, Cy Young award winners, batting champs, etc.).

Hey Jim,

Glad to hear about your results with 1978. I know for the 3 full seasons of '60s I have done thus far those Global Tweaks do produce fairly realistic results.

My belief is that with the Global Tweaks properly applied a full season roster file is very playable at that point and one should expect good results.

The Individual Tweaks make them a tad bit better with the individual players showing realistic results. Using those Outlyer tweaks even add to the realism at that point.

Then finally applying the Pitcher's pitch types places the iceing on the cake as once that is done the rosters, in my opinion, are about 95+% as good as they are going to get as far as the realism factors go.

Of course all the other things such as Hot/Cold Zones, Team Tendencies/Intensities, Manager Ratings etc all add their touch of realism as well.

I wish someone with a great deal of talent more than me could automate those Global Tweaks and Outlyers within MVPEdit then our time spent fine tuning these full season roster files would be that much quicker to produce and also eliminate the errors that always occur while applying them which take even a much longer amount of time to go back to identify and correct.

Individual tweaking will always remain an individual thing I think. That's where the true knowledge of individual players attributes really kick in.

I am very much awaiting your 1978 release as I know from experience with all that you have done with the Classics it will be fabulous mod and a season I will truly enjoy reliving !

Thanks,

Don

Sorry, Jim, I had been so busy adding portraits, I forgot to thank you for this little tidbit. Thank-you.

I'm trying the globaledit thing, but I worked on it for about half an hour last night, and the only thing I was able to accomplish so far is to make Mark Grace and Chuck Knoblauch better bunters!

I think I can get scans of the entire set of 1951 Topps, but they have kind of a funky design:

1951_Topps_Red_Back.jpg

This would either work out really cool as portraits or really shitty. If you want, I can mess around with it a bit to see how it looks in the game.

ADDITION:

1951: The first year Topps released baseball cards. Recognized as Red Backs and Blue Backs, the cards could actually be used to play a game by shuffling the cards and drawing them from a pile.

Soon after the release of TC7 there will be a Master Total Classics

pbp audio file. This file can then be used for nearly any year mod

from the early 1900' thru the 1980's. Though it is close to impossible

to have all the audios for players done this file will allow most teams

to have say 4-6 starting position players and a few SP's as well

as some bench players. In TC7 more than 1/2 the players will

have pbp audios and this will be the case for some of the teams

thru history

Simply, any/all portrait assigning may go by this list for each year that

may be created and the result will be a decent audio rep for that year

if the file is used

This TC file has been the accumulation of several audio modders

(Hory, Tony3, TxDodger73, Homer and myself) and has taken

nearly two years. But it will cover quite a bit

Was just wondering when are the approximate release dates for TC 7, 1978, and 1964? I cant wait. I have altered one of my dynasties. I have '61 Yanks, '70 Orioles, '67 Red Sox, '78 Yanks, and '98 Yanks in the East. Central-'65 Twins, '63 W Sox, '77 Royals, '65 Indians. '68 Tigers. West '73 Angels, '74 A's, '80 Phillies, '87 Cardinals. N.L. West-'63 Dodgers, '55 Dodgers, '54 Giants, and '69 Padres, '62 Giants. Central-'64 Cards, '69 Cubs, '61 Reds, ''60 Pirates '64 Colts, '57 Braves. East-'69 Senators, '69 Mets, '69 Braves, '75 Reds, '64 Phillies. I'm the '70 Orioles.

Looks like a very open race in each of those divisions with those great teams .............

Your '70 Orioles are in a very tough division.

I can only predict 2 teams won't be in the running --- '69 Padres & '64 Colts - Even the '69 Senators could surpise ! Should be a fun dynasty.

Our best estimate for the TC64 release would be around the end of April / early-mid May or so. A lot depends on how each of the developers available time comes about in the next few weeks. I know I am totally involved with Taxes all of next week. TC64 is just about >90% complete in my estimation.

I believe Jim825 stated his TC78 is perhaps only a couple weeks away. I think TC7 is in the final throws of testing.

Getting an Install Package together might be a hang up with all of this since we have practically lost the services of one of our great Classics members recently due to real life priorities.

That's about the best insight I can offer at this point.

Thanks for the update-I'm looking forward to '64 most of all. Yeah the '69 Padres are a sentimental favorite-I used to listen to their games on the radio and even saw them play when they were still a farm team for the Reds and Philllies in the '60's. Yes I put the '70 Orioles in that tough division hoping to have a real challenge. I found a website recently where someone played a very involved 16 team tournament with strat-O-matic or something using using best of 5 and seven formats-many teams '39 Yanks,27 Yanks, 61 yanks, 53 Yanks, 98 Yanks-55 Dodgers, 70 Orioles, 75 Reds, and other great teams that I forget-the '98 Yanks won it all.

I can relate to your Padres connection ........ In July of 1970 the 10 days or so before I left for Viet Nam I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif which as you probably know is in between Los Angeles & San Diego. During those final 10 or so days I saw 6 Padres games, 3 Dodger games & 1 Angels game ......... thus I have a special attachment as well to those early Padres ......... since I actually arrived at Pendleton May of '69 I also saw several of their games in '69 as well ...... of course those didn't mean as much to me as those final days before leaving for Viet Nam as you might imagine !!! Of course, as I stated in another thread long ago, at the bottom of my duffle bag I had my Strat-O-Matic game packed that I wasn't going to leave behind .............

How about that-here we were just a few miles apart-you heading off to an unpopular war and me a young 13 year old just trying to survive Jr. High. But we have that one bond, a love for the greatest game ever invented and the era of the 60's. I honed my baseball skills in San Diego-still, in my mind, one of the best places to play the game. I got to go to Petco last summer-have you been there?

Link to comment
Share on other sites

Nope, never been to Petco ---- Have been back to San Diego a few years back but didn't take in any games.

Last Baseball game I attended in Southern California was the 1981 (?) - the All Star game in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium.

Before I left Southern California I actually worked weekends at my Uncle's business which I could clearly see Anaheim Stadium from. It was actually an open field between his business and the Stadium which was less than a mile away. Went to a lot of Angels games back then as well.

I played Baseball for the Pendelton Marine Team and we had Carlos May a former White Sox who was a Marine Reservist playing with us as well. Then when I went overseas I actually played for 1 of the 2 Marine Corps hardball teams in a joint service league that traveled all over the Pacific. The league consisted of 2 teams from the Army; Air Force; Navy and 1 from the Coast Guard. Of course our 2 teams were named the Devil Dogs & the Leathernecks. I was the centerfielder for the Devil Dogs and we weren't one of the top teams ---- as I recall I think the Air Force & the other Marine team were 2 of the best teams in the Joint Military Western Pacific Baseball League but I rotated back before the season concluded.
