Hersh617
I was wondering if there was a mod out there that you could use to manipulate who retires and continues to play in owner mode for MVP 2005. I think its stupid that a Players like Ryan Howard (who was basically unheard of when MVP 2005 came out) retires cuz of abilty or personal reasons. In reality, Ryan Howard would not retire for either reasons. He will play until he is in his late 30s or early 40s barring any injuries. I have also noticed too many players retiring cuz of age even though they are in the mid 30s. This is baseball and people can play well on into their 40's (Julio Franco, Clemens, Maddux, etc). Would it be possible, if its not available right now, to create a mod where you can control who retires and who doesnt? Anyone else have a similar argument about player retirements? el_jefe061
I know what you're talking about, so what I always did was save before I went to retirements, and if I knew there were going to be dumb retirements, I would exit, reload my dynasty, and go through retirements again until there was something I wanted. Hersh617
Yeah I do the same thing, but that takes forever to get the right players not to retire. I was wondering if there is a mod out there, or if someone who is smarter then I am to create a mod designed to let you control who retires and who doesnt. Reloading your saved owner games to get the right players not to retire takes forever and I dont want to keep starting owner mode over to play a new season. I want to see players like Andruw Jones play into their late 30's or early 40's to see what kind of career they have, etc.
evil1182
You could just edit the resign.csv file and give them a 100% of resigning.
angryrat
there was a mod for the retirement thing on here before. it might still be if you check out downloads. search for the resign.csv file.
TheMadcap
ronmexico, where you at? you've had a good look at this stuff...we gotta fix it or prefferably you since you have some experience with these files.
compmaniac
Of all people, I think ronmexico and tywiggins would be the best people for this job. tywiggins is pretty good at reading memory.
lautrec
Of all people, I think ronmexico and tywiggins would be the best people for this job. tywiggins is pretty good at reading memory. I wish I could read memory - I can't even remember what I had for breakfast. Retirements can be bad, but one ting that will help, is make sure you are using an udated roster, like kg's that came with 07 mod. It updates players like Howard, and helps to keep them from retiring. One thing that irritates me, is prospects in the minors retiring.
Hersh617
What kind of programs are out there to alter the resign.csv file? Im not really good at mods or modding, never been good with programing, so my questions my seem weird at times.

Watchu want? I'm not quite following what the goal of this is, if someone can splain it in simpler, smaller words, that my small brain can comprehend, I can take care of it. PS, the game makes the highest age a player can play at 45, I think it's editable, I just never bothered cause I didn't wanna crash my game or nothing like that. superciuc
So,the player will retire at 45,even if he has more then 1 year of contract?
ronmexico
Yes, because his chance of continuing is 0%. Thing is, most of this game is coded in terms of percentages, so you can't make anyone do anything, unless you put it in terms of 100% or 0%. The progression mod, for example, made the percentages of improvement better for younger folks, and for really old folks, their skills are more likely to degrade, so it just re-weighed the scale, not made it statistical based, or guaranteed to do anything. That's why I don't think you can make a player not retire, but I'll look into it again.
philliesphan18
What about Julio Franco? - He says he wants to play until he is at least 50 years old! And he turns 49 in August. Does that mean he automatically retires?
ronmexico
Yea, if you've ever started a franchise with the Mets you'll see he retires after the first season. The game does a check, if a player is above 44, retire him, if not, run the probability for all the other ages.
superciuc
Ok,i just re-edited the resign file and the game doesn't crashes. Tomorrow i'll sim a season and i will see if it works
Hersh617
What about players like Roger Clemens and Randy Johnson retiring? Clemens will probably come back and considering his skill and physique, I think he can probably play for another 2 or 3 years. Is there a mod out there that can help you change the age at which players are forced to retire? My idea is this: have a mod that only forces a player, above the age of say 40-45, to retire if his ability level has dropped considerably (i.e. Roger Clemens can no longer throw a fast ball in the 90's or Barry Bonds can no longer hit more then 20 home runs in a season). This would make retirements more realistic and keep good players playing until they start to suck. But the decline in ability should not happen in one off-season... it should take place over a few seasons and once the player hits the bottom of his ability, he'll play the rest of the season out and then retire. For players below the age of 40-45, they retire either because of ability or personal reasons, but for great players (4-5 stars), retiring like this is very rare. Basically, any player with 4-5 stars has a high probabilty of playing into his forties and retiring because of age as opposed to play only until he's 31 and retiring for personal reasons (which is stupid). If I knew how to create mods, I would design this myself, but unfortunately, Im not a computer genius. Im that guy that only cares if it works, not how it works... lol
superciuc
It's very easy to edit this things. You have to find the resign.csv file in the database and then edit the files.
ronmexico
Yes, you can edit it, by making the retiring age higher, but the reason I did not take that up is because I'm afraid the data is stored in another place. What must be done is you start a new franchise/dynasty, sim a season, and see if those players who are over 45 (Julio Franco) retire. Then get to the next season, if it works, you should be in the clear. I am almost positive that this will crash your game because if you look at the files in the progress.big, they don't account for anything above the age of 45. I don't currently have MVP 2005/07 installed, so I can't tell you that I have tried this. Here is the likely scenario though. Hi, I'm MVP 2005, I want to progress your player, what is his age? You: 46 MVP: 46? You: Yea, it's an age, above 45, you add 1 to 45 and you get it. MVP: Sorry, it's not in any of the files, I'm going nuts now, and should shut down. You: Damn, I shoulda saved ~_~
LetsGoFish2015
I agree that way too many players in A or AA as top prospects retire after 1 year, and Bonds, Glavine, Clemens, Johnson, etc. will also retire right away. I know that you can only control happiness of your own players, but still it's weird.
superciuc
Ok, the game doesn't crashes but it retires the players even if he has a 100% of resigning (this one happens only to players at older age of 44)
ronmexico
Ok, the game doesn't crashes but it retires the players even if he has a 100% of resigning (this one happens only to players at older age of 44) So I'm assuming it's stored somewhere else. That's not the file that takes care of whether a player retires, you have to check out some files in progress.big for that.

tiedyed
couldn't we just change the age of older players with mvpedit if you want someone like clemens to play after 45 just alter his age?
