kgbaseball
There's a tutorial over at EAmods that explains exactly how to make them.

Darkslide820
It says "Now use MVPedit to import your new portrait." How do I do this?
redsox
You click on the player portrait in MVPEdit. It should open up a new window where you will have an option to add the pic and the alpha image. Make sure the game is not running when you are doing this. The easier way would be to use Kraw's installer thingy. But I am not sure if you have .bmp images or .fsh images. If they are .fsh, then use Kraw's installer thingy. If not use MVPEdit as described above.
Darkslide820
I made some 256 x 256 24-bit BMP files of myself in Microsoft Paint. I don't know what the alpha image is. Also, my MVPedit seems a little screwy. On the screen where you can see a player's ratings in Bunting, Stealing, etc, there is a little rectangle where I guess the photo should be, but instead it says something like "No Picture Found." This is strange because portraits come up fine in-game.
compmaniac
The alpha image is an 8-bit grayscale bitmap that covers up certain areas of the image to give transparency.
Darkslide820
Do you need that alpha thing for a picture to go in the game? Can you make that alpha thing with Paint or Gimp so I don't have to pay $500 for Photoshop?
compmaniac
Yes, you can. the alpha covers up the white area around a player's portrait. I'm not sure if you HAVE to include an alpha file, but it definitely makes it look a lot better.
Darkslide820
OK, see that's another thing. I won't be using MLB photos like in the link you posted above (the Jr. picture tutorial). I'll be using my own pictures or photos of old-timers, so there will rarely be a clean white background. I don't know if this'll throw things off, like if the alpha only covers up a single background color. BTW, I don't care about having the transparent part in the portrait. If I can put my own pics in, I don't care if it's see-through around the guy. As long as it works, I'm happy.
kgbaseball
An alpha can be all white; that just means all of the main picture will show up. For example, if you put your avatar into the game as a portrait and had a white alpha, the entire background would show up. That's the easy way to do it when you don't want to make a real alpha. I'll go try that again, but I think I did already and nothing happened. Oh yeah, what is the file type that an alpha has to be? Not .bmp, I assume. kgbaseball
Your pictures probably aren't showing up because you don't have "Show Player Portraits" checked in the MVPEdit options.
redsox
If you want, I can create the portrait for you. Just attach the pic to this forum.
Darkslide820
I just checked in the options and both "Show Player Portrait" and "Show Player Faces" are checked. If I click on a player's name, it says "searching for picture" and then "no picture found." I tried clicking on this, double clicking, and right clicking, but no new screens pop up. I appreciate the offer redsox, but I'd like to get it working myself so I don't have to keep bugging people to do my work.

You may be in the wrong directory. Do the following: Tools->Options-> and make sure that the data folder is highlighted. If you have multiple installs of the game (ex: Total classics, 94 mod, 2007 mod etc...) make sure that you are in the correct folder of MVP baseball. See if that helps. kgbaseball
That would've been my next tip, redsox. That should be the problem.
Darkslide820
Thank you. It took a few seconds to load up, but then faces did show up. Thanks again. What size do the BMPs have to be? I thought it had to be 256 x 256, but now my picture looks too big. OK, here's the problem now. For my guy and my friend's guy, it still says "no picture found." However, it does let me change the picture now. I select the picture that it should show as the portrait. I then go to select alpha, and I've used all 3 of the choices that are available in the "MVP Edit" folder, but nothing is working yet. Do I have to press "Delete FSH?" compmaniac
128x128 is 1x. 256x256 is 2x. It LOOKS big, but in the game, it'll be skinnier.
kgbaseball
If the files are 256x256, you must have "Export 2x Portraits" checked. Leave it unchecked for 128x128 portraits.
Darkslide820
Still not working. Do I have to change the number where it says "Audio/Photo?"
redsox
Don't worry about it being big. It will look ok in-game. How did you create the alpha image? You said you used the one from the MVPEdit folder, but the alpha image is unique to each portrait. You are going to have to create it yourself.
