JR breaking out the Lumber Mill. Awesome beat down of the Reds man. That stadium is nothing but a launching pad.

Good to see Soriano on a tear for the week. I just got him back off the DL for me. Player of the Week template is great.

Hey, real-life Cubbies are just a 1/2 game behind the Crew. :wtg:

Yeah, I got shut out in Game 1, but score 21 runs in the next two games. Even DeRosa got into the mix of things. :)

And the CUBBIES! I saw the standings today and had to look twice. These guys just might be for real.

Just a quick update on the standings:

4 1/2 games behind 1st place Houston

1st place in the Wild Card Race (2 games ahead of the Mets)

The upcoming schedule consists of:

4 games against the NL East leading Phillies (home)

3 games against the Mets (home)

3 games against Houston (road)

10 very tough games and without a doubt a pivotal part of my season.

Pardon the pun JR, but that is a rough road ahead. Good luck man.

It definately is. If Houston continues it's hot streak, and I can't string more than 4 or 5 wins together in this 10 game stretch, I'm afraid I might be forced to start looking at the Wild Card spot.

Wow, this is the first time I checked in in a while, since I was away, and I like the new presentation style! Looks great JR.

Thanks, phils. I really haven't had too much time to work on the templates, but I do appreciate the comments.

The races are starting to heat up. :)

JR, heads up. Cubs/Phillies ESPN: 6:05PM CST

Yep, thanks M, I'm patiently awaiting tonight's game. With the Crew off today, and their next 3 games at New York (Mets), the Cubbies could own the top spot.

This is going to get interesting.

But the Phillies did away with the Cubs today. 4-1. Go Hamels.

Hamels looked great. Great changeup, mixed up his pitches well.

On another note, I just finished the series with Cincinnati, and Kyle Lohse picked up the only win for the Reds (Game 1 - 8.1 IP, 7K, 0 ER) on July 27th.

After the Phils/Cincy trade the other day, I may again be facing him in the upcoming series.

The 4 game series at Wrigley (vs Philly) will be posted in a Series Wrap Up format, as I won't have time to update daily.

[align=center]In the bottom of the 6th, Phillies reliever J.D. Durbin issued Jason Kendall a 4 pitch walk, and Mike Fontenot singled to put two men on with no outs. that Barajas homer killed you, get em 2morow

I thought about pulling Prior after Iguchi got on, but I didn't, and I paid for it.

But you're right, going into the bottom of the 8th only one down would have been a completely different story.

JR, whats up with Lou? We haven't heard anything from him for a long time. Everything's great with him right?

Lou and the rest of the staff are content. The offense has steadily improved with the 'hiring' of Mark Grace. Batting averages have increased, homeruns and OBP's have increased, and overall run totals that leads to winning games have increased.

The 1 run games have dissipated due to more patience at the plate; taking pitches, walks, looking for pitches to hit, have all contributed to a better overall offensive performance.

With a 2 game lead in the Wild Card Race, and only 4 games out of first, the Cubs are in a position to stay in the hunt now that we're already into August.

The pitching staff has been tremendously solid all year, and the Cubs can attribute a high amount of their wins based on the pitching alone. With that said, a good amount of those 1 run games could have broken down if not for the Cub's pitching.

The immediate road ahead is tough, with Philly, NYM, and Houston all due up on the schedule. But teams like this one would rather look at these games as opportunities rather than cower and hope to scrape a few wins off the bottom the MLB's best teams right now.

Lou and/or Gracie are due to make an appearance in the 'press', but it will more than likely be after the games mentioned above.

This is a pivotal time for the Cubs, and their performance through the next 8 games will probably mold the content of Lou's next press conference.

Pudge -

You misread. Griffey has 57 RBI's, not homeruns. Without looking, Griffey only had 12 or 13 HR's if I remember right. Not sure, but it was something close to that.

Atlanta's Mark Teixeira is leading the National League with 28 HR's.

Does Burrell start at all for the Phils? And how in the world is Bourn hitting .323 while Soriano can't even crack .270?!?

First of all, I don't control the Phils or any other of the CPU teams (I only make the trades), but I'll try to answer your questions.

Burrell is only hitting .208, and has been pinch hitting so far in the series.

Sorry, can't answer your question about Bourn, but from the looks of things, and the series itself, he's been playing well.
