owls
Ohhhhh...... So when the Portrait Maker 1.5 that you linked me to makes an FSH I should name it the same number that I'll use as the audio/photo #? Does that mean I won't have to do the whole click on the words, pick an picture, pick an alpha, thing? If that's what you mean then I think I got it. If you don't have a .fsh file already then you will need your bmp file and an alpha image of it regardless. If you make the .fsh with the Portrait Maker then you will have to pack the .fsh into your portraits.big file yourself (with a program like BigGUI (open portraits.big, and "Import" your fsh, click on the .fsh again and "Compress," click nothing else and exit)). You HAVE to do it this way if you want to add a new portrait to a Dynasty or Owner mode that you already started. If you haven't started a mode yet then you can still edit the rosters and thus the portraits with MVPEdit (with the aforementioned pick a picture and an alpha steps,etc.). In both cases you'll have to make the players Audio/Photo ID and the xxxx.fsh numbers match. 1.fsh would be 0001.fsh but make sure you're not overwriting someone else's portrait - you can refer to Hory's "Portrait ID" list to find the empty slots or his previous slot. Darkslide820
What confuses me is that I have never made any fsh files, as you can tell by this thread, but THE PORTRAITS USED TO WORK FOR ME. I've put in pictures of myself, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, etc. just by going into MVPedit and choosing an unused number and then assigning a picture and alpha, and they worked. One time, they didn't. MVPedit will show that I'm going to use a certain picture, but in-game I get the blank. BTW, I'm not really looking to do dynasty or owner modes, so do I still have to compress it?

MVPEdit makes the .fsh and presumably compresses it for you (I've never used the MVPEdit method). The method you describe of using MVPEdit should theoretically work (pick a 4 digit unused number, pick a 128x128 or 256x256 24-bit bmp and an 8-bit alpha bmp.) Is the "blank" you get plain black or black with the white player outline? The plain black is an error you get for one if the .fsh isn't compressed and the white outline would mean it can't find any image to match his photo ID. kgbaseball
You're half right, owls. The game crashes if a portrait isn't compressed. The black box comes from the index.fsh inside a .fsh file not matching the .fsh number. In Total Portraits, you'll notice a few guys with black boxes as portraits. To make a long story short, the index.fsh didn't match the portrait number, so the black box appears. If you want to check some of the players out, look at Beltran Perez, Billy Carnlne, Nathan Haynes, or Kevin Mellilo.
owls
I said "for one" because I knew there was another reason I couldn't think of - and you named it. But that's interesting you say it crashes. I could swear I've imported proper .fsh files, forgotten to compress and just received the black box? But you're probably right and I crashed at that point and just had too many Belgians tonight to remember correctly.
Darkslide820
:balloons: Yay. At the moment, it is working. I say at the moment because it used to work and stopped. So I guess I just have to hope this holds up for a little. I did what kg said. For my character and my friend's character, I went into MVPedit and selected A/P numbers that were not taken. I then closed MVPedit without exporting anything. Did the Portrait Maker thing, which created 0001.fsh and 0002.fsh. I then used Installer Thingy to put these in the portrait.big, as it said on the big black DOS screen. I then reopened MVPedit, opened the .mbe file, exported the roster to the proper "database" folder. I shut down MVPedit and loaded up the game. Low and behold, my portraits are on the free agents list! When I said the blank, I meant the black guy with the white outline.
Darkslide820
I played a game with my player, portrait and all, and it did not crash or anything. I guess the whole compression issue was taken care of?
kgbaseball
The installer thingy does that for you.
