xcrunner4623
ORIOLES ADD TWO IN SEARCH OF MILESTONES Not strangers to allowing players to finish their career with milestones while playing for their team, the Baltimore Orioles added two fading stars to their roster. Lance Reid, a journeyman first baseman only needs 125 hits to reach 3,000 for his career. Pat Jacobsen, a 40 year old pitcher who can still bring the heat needs 15 wins for 300 in his career and 145 strikeouts to reach the elusive 3,000 K mark. ***I never could finish a dynasty because I never had something to work for, now this one will be finished***
xcrunner4623
LANCE REID Quote from Reid: "I'm just happy to be an Oriole. I want to thank Peter Angelos for giving me the opportunity to finish out my career here in Baltimore. This season is going to be tough with the hype surrounding my near milestone, but hopefully I can put that aside to help this team." xcrunner4623
PAT JACOBSEN Quote from Jacobsen: "I am glad a team wanted to take the chance on this old arm. I still feel that I can bring some heat when I need to, and hopefully I can get the wins to propel this team into the playoffs. This may be my last year, so I gotta make it the best it can be. Of course the milestone is in my head, but I think I can brush it aside. Only time will tell I guess."

xcrunner4623
I like the idea too. In my dynasties before I never had a true goal so I would never finish them. But now I can see progress in trying to attain these plateaus. I didn't want to make it easy on me, so I think 125 hits for a guy with 50 some odd contact will be harder as well as 15 wins and 145 strikeouts. We'll see how it goes. Hopefully they can get the milestones.

He demanded a trade during Spring Traning and wanted to play in the AL where he said he would thrive as a designated hitter. His wish was granted as the Giants sent the disgruntled slugger to the Baltimore Orioles. Terms of the deal were not yet disclosed. "It should be a good opportunity for me in Baltimore," Bonds said. "Two other guys are trying to break records there, so maybe we can make it three." Bonds will be the DH for the Orioles when they face off against right handed pitchers.

xcrunner4623
interesting idea with bonds. obviously markakis went to san francisco right? I figured since Bonds is chasing history I might as well try him out for size. Markakis did not go to San Fran, another player did. I kind of turned fair trades and budgets off to get Bonds on the Orioles. Shh. But don't tell anyone.

xcrunner4623
MINNESOTA- Against staff ace Johan Santana, the Orioles could not muster up any offense as they fell 2-0. Santana (1-0) went the complete game, walking three while striking out two. For the Orioles, Erik Bedard pitched stellarly, only making two mistakes that gave the Twins their runs. One pitch Michael Cuddyer ripped for an RBI double, the other Jason Bartlett drilled for a home run. Bedard pitched 7 2/3 innings of great ball, scattering 8 hits, and striking out 7. "It's a shame that we could not get any offense going against Santana," Bedard said. "I pitched very well for the opener, hopefully we can turn things around." Lance Reid went 2 for 4 on the night, now needing 123 for the milestone. A familiar sight for Twins hitters, as Bedard racks up another strikeout Bartlett connects on his home run Box Score
xcrunner4623
MINNESOTA- It looked to be going down the same road for the Orioles as the night before. Francisco Liriano, fresh off of his Tommy John surgery, that usually needs a full year to recover, pitched well through seven innings for the Twins. In the top of the eigth, Liriano walked Aubrey Huff to load the bases. Ramon Hernandez stepped up to the plate, and saw Liriano laboring a bit. "Francisco was out there looking a little bit tired," Hernandez said. "I don't know why he wasn't pulled." Hernandez walked on four pitches, bringing in Jay Payton to tie the game. One batter later, Lance Reid proved his senior leadership with roping an RBI single up the middle to plate Tejada. Kris Benson pitched six innings and struck out two. Sendy Rleal came in to pitch 2 1/3 strong innings for the win. Reid rounds first base after his RBI single Box Score REID WATCH- 1 for 4, RBI (122 to go) BONDS WATCH- 0 for

Cabrera unleashed the demon on the Twins, striking out five while leading the way for the Orioles. "It felt really good in the spring," Cabrera said. "I just wanted to see what I could get, and I guess I got a lot." Miguel Tejada picked up an RBI as well as Nick Markakis. Brian Roberts went 3 for 4 with two RBIs before straining his rib cage on an attempt to break up a double play. In his first action as DH, Barry Bonds went 1 for 4 with a single. Lance Reid picked up another hit for Baltimore, now putting him within 121. xcrunner4623
HERNANDEZ PACES O'S TO WIN OVER YANKS NEW YORK - Ramon Hernandez likes hitting against the Yankees. Every time he plays them he seems to come up with a big game. Hernandez raised his average above the Mendoza line with a 2 for 3 night that included the first Baltimore home run of the year. Hernandez also scored three runs against the Yankees. Barry Bonds went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored for the Orioles, and went another game without a home run. "I don't really mind not hitting a home run," Bonds said. "Sure it would be nice, but I want to help the team win any way that I can." Jaret Wright (1-0) picked up the win for Baltimore. Pat Jacobsen will make his first Oriole start against the Yankees and Ken Igawa tomorrow. Who But Markakis? philliesphan18
I'm definately rooting for Jacobsen and Reid, but I can't say I'm rooting for Bonds! Also, while your on this record theme, isn't there a pitcher approaching 300 wins somewhere, Tom Glavine? If so, you should trade for him. PS - While I'm at it, a suggestion I have is posting a linescore with your games.

Glavine does need 10 wins to reach 300, but I don't like him so I won't put him on my team. The way it looks right now, Reid is well on his way to 3,000 hits, but knowing my luck he's going to be injured for the season in the next game. Jacobsen starts, so I am interested to see how I pitch with him. I upped the sliders a little bit following that Twins game, and I saw some differences. Thanks for following. I think it is because he is one of the last of a breed that knows how to pitch well and not just throw.

I think most of them are far too far away from 500 HR to be conceivable. I can check though. Edit: Manny, Thome, and Thomas wouldn't be too bad, but Sheffield is too far away and in my opinion A-Rod is too.
