marinerschas2
well, this isn't official by any doctor (since i didnt go). But i was playing football in PE back in senior year and i jumped up in a crowd of people to try and intercept a pass, when naturally the other people jumped too. however i landed flat footed and only on my right foot. somehow in the mess of people, my right ankle got kicked out when all of my weight was on it. Basicly, i couldnt walk or put pressure on it for 3-4 days and it was swollen for a good 2-3 months. I was a dumbass and didn't go to the doctor for it. I have full use out of it without any pain, but every once in a while i'll just be walking and i'll feel a pull on the top of my ankle and it will swell up for about a week, but there wont be any pain. i'm trying to find pics of it when it was swollen big edit: i did make the catch, but fumbled when i fell down. I crawled off the lovely fieldturf field, and was helped out by a buddy to the nurse. edit again: i've been hit from line drives several times playing baseball when i was pitching. There was a time when i was a magnet for the line drive hitters. I have bruises on my chest, thigh, calf and stomach from playing baseball over the years. superciuc
i can see it in the papers now. :lmao:... but i have to make a correction: his last known words were "Citizens Bank Park sucks and let's go DBacks".

Yankee4Life
Must be a coincidence for injuries amongst MVPmodders, on Saturday night I stepped out my front door and slipped on some grass dislocating and breaking my ankle in three places. I'll tell you this much for free, being a cripple sucks ****. I actually cringed when I read this. Sorry this happened Hory. How long are you going to be laid up? seanzarelli
Well my story comes while playing baseball in Panama City, FL at the young age of 13. In little league I was primarily a 1B, 3B, and occasional outfielder. During one game I had started at 3B and was doing exceptionally well, but due to an injury to the left fielder who got one of his ribs cracked by a kid that threw in the high 80's with his fastball. So being the "4th string" outfielder the coach takes me from 3B to put me in left field. After moving to left field the game was pretty uneventful for me until this kid hits a bomb to me that I caught about 10 feet from the fence. Well later on in the game, the same kid comes up to bat again and yet another blast, but this time I caught it but didn't catch it. As I was running back, I was keeping a listen out for my center fielder to start yelling "Fence! Fence!" like our coach taught us to but never heard it, so as the ball was starting it's downward slope it was a little bit over my head so I decide to try and jump to catch it. As soon as I jumped, my head turned forward to watch the ball into my glove when SMASH! I caught a face full of chain link fence and with the force my body had when it hit the fence I bounced off of it like a bouncy ball on a brick wall, and I flew back about 5-6 feet landing flat on my back with my hands under me as I tried to brace myself for the fall. And just laid there because of the wind being knocked out of me. Luckily all that happened was a broken wrist on my left hand which was my catching hand. What really sucked though is that even though I caught the ball, when I hit the fence it flew out of my glove and trickled over the fence for a homerun. Tigers94
Nothing that bad has happened to me.(Knock on wood) but I've sprained both my ankles several times and only one time has it been from playing soccer(weird). This happened about a year ago. I had the ball and a kid was running at me from the side. I lobbed it to him with my right foot and my foot went into the air a bit. The kid tackled me and hit my one leg on the ground, so I fell. But my foot got caught in the grass so as he tackled me I fell, and my ankle was caught under him and like dragged with him as he followed through with his tackle. Luckily for me, I only had a sprained ankle. Man, you guys have really been hurt.
Hory
I actually cringed when I read this. Sorry this happened Hory. How long are you going to be laid up? About two months in a cast I'd say, one year until a complete recovery although I'm not even on the road to recovery yet I haven't had surgery on it yet as it's too swollen, it was meant to be this past friday and now it's going to be on wednesday which will make it over 10 days since it happened. At least then I'll be allowed to go back to my own home which being away from is the worst part of all this. Although I may think I have it bad, there's plenty of people in the hospital I've met who've got it a lot worse than me so I can't complain that much. MarlinsMS_35
My neighbor/teammate broke his fibula in our game early this week, he was playing OF, and i was playing 2B, and his contact fell out, so next inning we swapped positions. He was turning a double play, and he got to the bag late, so all of his footwork got messed up, and he rolled his ankle on the base, and at perfect timing he got spiked, and his foot went in a weird spazing out thing, and i sprained my ankle once, during a collision at home, and I didn't spaz out that much. And I admit it, that kid who broke his fibula is tougher than me, so when I saw it happen, I knew something went wrong. The thing that sucks is that we have a tournament in Myrtle Beach early-mid August (see sig) and he mighthave to miss it. That would suck. He's one of my better friends. Good luck with the surgery. I have my hardware removal in a week and half. Can't wait. I am really close to having complete ROM. Still have some stiffness but can't complain one bit. Homer will probably rap my knuckles for this but I have not seen a Physical Therapist as of yet. My Orthopedist liked my progress on my last visit and wasn't upset that I hadn't seen a PT. It has been 3 months and 5 days since the accident and I'm on pace with most recovery estimates I've read across the net. I plan on getting the opinion of a PT when my surgery is said and done. Can never have too many opinions! Again, good luck with your situation Hory. Only thing I can say I gained from my 3 months ongoing of crippledness is that I appreciate healthy activity all the more. hunteroo2
A little over 2 years ago, I went to play a pickup game of football with some friends, and on..I think it was the last play of the game, I tried to go around this guy, and he horse collar tackled me, and I tried to twist away from it. Unfortunately for me, my foot got caught in a rut in the field, and I was looking down at my knee, and I saw it bend sideways, dont really remember how far, but it was bad, and I heard 3 loud pops....went to the doctor, broken knee, torn pcl. I was on crutches for about 3 months because the swelling never went down and I was too paranoid to put any weight on it, and finally my doctor figured out that my knee had, for whatever reason, built up too much scar tissue and that was why I had next to no range of motion in it, so I had surgery to clean it out, then physical therapy for about 2 months...and that's my fun and exciting story lol

zneal89
I played basketball & football for 4 years in high school. I injured my ankle running routes in practice during my senior football season (played TE, I'm 6'2'' 205 lbs). Tried to run a 12 yard comeback route on my bum ankle in a game, and really f*cked it up. Every step with my right foot sent a shooting pain through my nerves in my whole foot from the high ankle down. Well, we lost to the state champions in the 2nd round of playoffs... Then starts my favorite sport to play, Basketball! At my high school, we are pretty small, I'm pretty much the biggest guy we had in football or basketball (certainly in basketball...cus football has lineman and linebackers more muscular than I am). So I started the thanksgiving portion of the basketball season on crutches. Well, my senior class sarcastically considered me a hero in basketball, because the town 5 miles away has a 7'0'' Center, Mike Tisdale (attending the University of Illinois on a basketball scholarship). The sarcasm turned into real support, as I often heard Nealsdale (my nickname) chants (Neal is my last name, Nealsdale is a play on words for the big guy in other other town, since I face him once a year). Every game we played, my support grew. They really supported me... So back to Thanksgiving, we play in a Thanksgiving classic. And with 2 days til the classic, I was still on crutches. Coach would only let me shoot freethrows at practice while the team went hard. Well, I couldn't bare it...I wrapped my ankle tight and ran out in the middle of a drill and participated. I begged coach to start me. he eventually gave in. I played in the Thanksgiving Classic and made the All-Tournament team as our representative. Secretly, I still had progressively worse pain. It hindered my play to a point where my dream of All-Area was just a distant wish. I just couldn't put the ball in the bucket. I played the whole year and averaged 7 pts., 7 rebs, and 3 blocks a game, including a massive block on a 6'8'' kid in the area that I will always remember (IDK how I block shots so well, I'm just 6'2'' as a center). But it is over now.... My ankle still send zipping pains every time I step, and there really isn't a way to repair according to my doctor. He says to ice it, but it doesn't work. Also, my body is 17 going on 60. I have knee problems to boot, and my back is all knotted. I'm turning old. LOL Hope you enjoyed my long winded story about my HS Bball senior season.... Homer
yeah icing isn't going to help much with that kinda pain. how about getting a second opinion? what kind of doctor did you see?

Homer
you should get a second opinion from a podiatrist and/or orthopedist.
MrDudleyDoWright
Ok, here goes nothin. I was playing baseball, and i had hit one down the line. I'm hustiling down second base when i twisted my ankle the wrong way, But i kept running, and when i was going for the inside the park homer, the catcher rammemd me and i felt a pop in my shoulder. I was taken off in a strecher, and when i was in the hospital, they told me, i disclocated my shoulder from the catchers knee guard, and i had a fractured leg and a broken ankle. thr33niL
Got the screw out today!!!! Got put under just like when they put it in ...but it was an in-and-out procedure and the best news of all... I haven't had one bit of pain. They even prescribed me Tylox (?) for pain and offered another block shot. I said "Hell no!" to that mess. The whole sensation of your arm being COMPLETELY dead for 10 hours is not a good feeling. So I am happy as a clam. Got a post-op in 2 weeks and then I can put this whole mess behind me. Good day for me! Check out the lag bolt they plunged in my shoulder.. Good God. superciuc
Good lord! I wouldn't have that damn thing in my shoulder for one second and yes, having your arm dead for 10 it's not a great feeling.
thr33niL
Homer, I think figured out why the screw is hollow. According to this, its seems they can use a guide or "cannula" for the screw. So I imagine they pre-drilled the hole, set this small pin in as a guide then placed the screw over the top of the guide pin and drilled 'er home. Makes me a little squirmy to think about it. :eew:
kgbaseball
I've had 2 big injuries. I tore up my ankle during a varsity basketball summer league as a freshman, which was right before baseball began, so I wasn't able to play that year. As a sophomore, I tore my labrum in my pitching shoulder, had surgery, did rehab, and haven't been able to throw since. When I get older, I'm going to go get it fixed for good so I'll at least be able to play catch with my future kids.
D-Unit
I broke my ankle playing basketball on the first day of February this year. I stole the ball and ran downcourt with three kids from the other team coming at me, I jumped too early for a layup and I saw the shot was off target so I tried turning my body around to set myself up for the rebound, and I landed right on the side of my ankle and broke it falling down. Funny thing was I got up and walked across the court on it, it hurt like a b*** and I was cursing all the way across the court. At this point, I thought I just landed funny and nothing more so I called time out and stood on the side for a minute. Then my ankle gave out and I collapsed on the floor, got rushed to the hospital.
