Ticaliano
Pirate, you do the best stadium mods out of anyone else around (no offense). You should seriously consider doing the rest of the parks. It would be a travesty if you didn't put your magical touch on the others. :(

Check out Hyman's Yankee Stadium and Dolphin Stadium both are excellent. All the stadium modders are really fantastic craftsmen. I use all the stadium mods. There is no reason for me to attempt Oriole Park or Fenway or Yankee, they are already perfection and far superior to what I can make.
mvp23
Hey pirate, I was just wondering if you will include that "back stop/tunnel"(I don`t know how you call that) for the Angels ballpark. In your last update, you did not included it and that`s one of the things that makes that ballpark unique.

I must have misread it. :joystick: Being a Yankee fan, I'm familiar with Hyman's Yankee stadium mod. It's pretty awesome. Here's an idea: The three of you should lock yourselves up in a room for about a week straight when it comes time to do the '08 touch-ups, lol. The quality would be outrageous. :shotgun:

Pirate
Easy to change to the sky but the lighting is beyond me. You have to switch sky files but that can be tricky if the filenames don't match.
Sidewinder
Hey pirate, I was just wondering if you will include that "back stop/tunnel"(I don`t know how you call that) for the Angels ballpark. In your last update, you did not included it and that`s one of the things that makes that ballpark unique. Yeah, it would be great if the top stadium modders would take Angel Stadium under their wing and really do a "complete" update. It is great to have it work consistently though with Pirates latest mod, but when the view switches to looking in from the outfield, it really looks bare. I just played at Pirate's Chase Field again and what a detailed beauty that is(love your Fridays). I always enjoyed HaloFans Protest Angel Mod, even though it wasnt completely accurate, it was full of eye candy. Unfortunately, it has gotten to where it doesnt work too consistently with all the later mods. Is is possible to lower some of the textures in HaloFans work to get it to work? Has anyone seen him lately? He disappeared a few years ago after being upset about the Angels name change and creating his Protest stadium. My thinking is this. He created his stadium as a Protest and naturally to be seen and played. If no one can play it because it crashes with the newer mods, what's the point! I would think if HaloFan knew this was an issue, he would fix it himself. But, he has been gone for a long time and either doesnt know or has moved on and doesnt care anymore about his Angel Stadium mod. With this in mind, can one of you top stadium modders make this stadium work by doing your magic(lowering some stadium textures??). I do respect the "copyrights" of the work you guys do, but I believe we are running into a two year period now of a disappearing author who has abandoned his broken work. IMHO, unless HaloFan has some current imput regarding his stadium mod, common sense dictates it's time to make adjustments to it, for the greater good of the many users who would play in it, IF IT WORKED as is. If I had the "touch", I would do it myself. What are the feelings of the forum and administrators on this? This is a subject that has been dangling out there for some time and needs some closure. Pirate
I won't touch Halo's work as I wouldn't want the same done to mine. I just cannot justify spending my time fixing a stadium I never play in. With Chase Field and PNC Park. Those are the two stadiums I play most of my games in, so I was willing to put in the time. Same goes for Big O and Oriole Park, I would assume. Those are a labor of love. HaloFan is the same. He created that mod because he loves the Angels and in fact worked for the team. He was adamant that it remain a protest version. I respect taht. But it took him an amazing amount of time to rework the are behind the plate. I just don't want to spend my time doing that. It's not a broken mod either. I works perfect for me and him, it just conflicts with the uniforms. He wanted his resolution high on the graphics and it should remain so unless he wants to reduce it and release it. But from what I gather he has given up on baseball, Angels baseball at least. So I doubt he will change his opinion.
Sidewinder
Pirate, thanks for your imput. I understand placing your extra efforts in your favorite ballparks. That makes complete sense. I have to disagree with your reasoning about "fixing" HaloFans Angel Stadium. Many people cannot get it to work with their current setup and semi-recent mods. It would stand to reason that if he was aware of that, he would adapt it to work with "everyones" setup. Afterall, when you protest something, you want to reach as many people as possible. That is not happening anymore and won't until adjustments are made to his mod. Since HaloFan last frequented this forum, techniques have been discovered to use lower res textures that look just as good as the high res ones did, but use less memory, enabling the mod to be more stable. I know you are aware of this. BigO has done this with his mods, too. At this point, it is just a matter of semantics, and common sense needs to rise to the top for the greater good....or at least for the hardcore Angel fans.
Pirate
Halo's gone so this is a mute point. I'll take that back you can do the edits or someone else can, but I will not provide assistance. Maybe he doesn't check this anymore, maybe he does. It's your gamble. I respect his work and his reasoning behind not changing the mod. You see he is adamant that the name of the Angles not be changed,. He made the protest version. Changing his mod to reflect he current LA team would fly in the face of his art. It takes away the meaning. Here is the original progress post. Things get pretty testy for me when he gets personal. I don't like Halo or his stance, but he made a nice piece of artwork. I respect that he is passionate and I don't think it is right for someone to change it... http://www.mvpmods.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=8831.html
Sidewinder
Pirate, I believe you are missing my point. While I would love a complete updated version, I always felt playing in HaloFans Angel Stadium was as good as it got, being an Angel fan. I remember his stance very well and what he was going through when he quit his beloved "Anaheim Angels". I grew up in Anaheim myself, so I could feel for the guy. I just thought he took it too far. I am sure he will learn that as he experiences life's other disappointments. I suppose myself having grown up with the "California Angels", I realized that it's just a name, even if the current name IS the stupidest sounding team name in sports! But I think the owner, Artie Moreno, has done a great job overall. Anyways, I dont want to change his mod on the surface. I would like to see it become more stable for the people that really want to use it. Not having a clue about modding, I have to rely on the stadium modders. From what I have heard this is a memory issue. In your opinion, what would need to be done to make it more stable, like some of the other new stadium mods that had memory issues and were crashing? Could this be done below the surface level of the game, where you really wouldnt notice it in-game using some newer modding techniques you guys have discovered in the last two years? I believe if HaloFan knew his mod had become unstable with alot of fans of his mod, he would want it to be adjusted to run consistently. Afterall, isnt that the point of sharing your work? So others can enjoy it?
Pirate
The size of the files inside especially those over 1024x1024 pixels need to be reduced. But this would cause some of the graphics to be distorted and not as attractive.
Sidewinder
What about the size of the field textures. Being that it is a two year mod, I remember BigO had issues with his Oriole Park two years ago where it slowed down the frame rate considerably. He made a discovery to reduce the field textures without losing quality and problem was solved. Is this a possibility with HaloFans mod?
Pirate
No it has everything to do with him using several textures thta were 2048x2048 pixels. Angels Stadium is very unique in that there are several files that have extra verts. He expanded all of these and others to get that stadium so incredibly perfect. Shortly after he released the first day version the issue with 2x unis is discovered.
The Big O
Not to hijack this thread any more but perhaps hyman's mipmap discovery might play into making Halo's mod more stable. It won't reduce the quality of his work because you'd be cutting out the lower end of the graphics. Just a thought...

If this proves true (Hymans theory) then it should work well for HaloFans work. My plans still include finishing out the last few stadiums, including Petco with the new buildings in the background and Angel Stadium with some additional ads and maybe the people behind the plate. Then I'm going to work exclusively on classic ballparks, especially cleaning up all of Sean O's work. I really want accurate parks for every single season mod that comes out. That's awesome, especially that last paragraph. You're the best.
