1971 or 1972 Rosters

Hi Gang,

I'm new to this group and I'm also 50 years old wishing he could play with teams from 1971 or 1972. (Oakland A's are my Team) I'm not sure a complete overhaul or Mod is needed but maybe just rosters would suffice.

I'm willing to learn how but I'll need some mentoring and Tutoring, let me know if you roster makers or Modder's are willing to help.

Thank you in advance,

Owen Greaves

Things you will need:

- MVPEdit

- Lahman's database

- Ratings

The Lahman's database is a database from which you can import accurate rosters for all teams. Here is the link - http://baseball1.com/statistics/

You would then use MVPEdit to import that database. Basically, there is an option in MVPEdit that lets you import data specifically from Lahman's database.

One thing to note is that when importing rosters, you would end up with more than 25 players on each team (end up with close to 50). You would need to bring that count to 25 as MVP Baseball will not work.

The last thing you would need to do is create the ratings for each player (which could take a while if you plan on doing it for all teams).

Just recently there was a post about converting baseball stats to MVP ratings. You could start there.

Hope this gets you started. I am sure you will have some questions so feel free to ask them. Take care.

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention is that you could take a look at the total classics that were created. Maybe the A's roster has already been done for you. You would be better of contacting those that were involved with that project to get more details. Take care.

1974 Athletics

1974 Rangers

1974 White Sox

I'm also working on a 1978 season mod right now. It's probably about 75 - 80% complete.

Hi Owen,

Welcome to the Over-the-Hill-Gang Social Club for Oldtime Baseball enthusiast. We have a great representation of guys here very much your age; a little younger; a great deal younger (which is wonderful!) and even some a bit older ...... as in my case I am 59 and don't have any plans on slowing down on my involvement in this resurgence of Oldtime PC Baseball.

I focus mostly on building '60s rosters but do have a '74 roster penciled in on my agenda down the road. Would love to work very closely with you if you are interested in undertaking the '71 or '72 season or even just interested in building a few of those teams.

I think the best way to begin would be to actually speak over the phone as so much can be lost in translation of write ups. So please feel free to send me a Private Message here at MVPMods and I will provide you my contact information so we can begin on getting you to the expert stage of this stuff fairly quickly. If you prefer contacting me via email you can do so at stecropper at aol dot com.

Take Care & Thrilled to have you on board here,

Don

Well we've done it again Don-we've captured another old timer and added him to the group of guys who get too little sleep playing with this game and are in serious need of interventions. We have drug/alcohol therapies-we need to add old time baseball addicts to the list.

112155,

Yep, looks like another Oldtime guy with super potential. That's exactly what we are wanting to see - & the more the merrier.

Yep also to being fully addicted to this Classics revolution ---- but I don't want any intervention yet even though my lifelong job is now likely at risk because of it as well as possibly even my marriage (she really won't say but that's because I haven't taken the time to talk with her in months -- heck I'm in the final weeks of my '67 Dynasty trailing by only 2 games -- there will be time later for idle chat with others) ---- looking on the bright side of the spectrum is if those fall by the way side I will have more time for Oldtime Baseball ..................

As far as Owen wanting a little guidance in Oldtime Roster building -- Man I am willing to spent a great deal of time with anyone wanting to understand the tools, concepts, resources and processes of building Oldtime Rosters like we have all come to understand these days ................ it's been a long rocky road but it sure is getting much smoother these days and so many more looking like they would like to travel down it with us --- and it has always been fun even from the beginning when we had not even a clue as to how great this would all become !!!

Life is Good !!! & the More we Share the More we Gain ----->

I randomly select 1 Team to play every game with alternating American & National league teams each season and then play 2 other games of choice on each day (Thanks to tywiggins mod).

This season the team I play every game with are the Tigers. I do that just to verify the slider settings and realistic player performances. It is much better to play every game with 1 team to check out in-game performances relative to real life performances.

Hi Again,

Wow! Thanks for the welcome. I am partial to both thiose years because of the amazing things that happen, 4 twenty game winners on Baltimore, Hank Aaron 47 homers, Stargell hits 48 and so on. The 1972 season is awesome because pitching dominated, it was Roberto Clemente's last games as he died in December in a plane crash, the Oakland A's were unstoppable and the Reds were coming into there own. Anyway, I'm thinking about tackling one of these years, I have to make a decision I guess :)

Thanks again for the wonderful welcome and I look forward to chatting with you again.

Owen
