Hocking
MVP Baseball 2005 modded with the MVP07 update is a great game, no questions about it. However, there are some really annoying bugs in the game that really get frustrating after a while, and really take away from the realism of the game when they occur in rapid succession during one game. Here is a list of some of these bugs I have experienced: 1) CPU pitchers pitching horribly to the opposing Human controlled pitcher usually resulting in walking the opposing teams pitcher regularly. This happens so often I usually just swing at bad pitches so I can try to compensate and get the usual out that a pitcher usually gets. 2) This one really makes me go crazy. I will throw the ball to an infielder trying to make a tag-out play on a base runner sliding into a base. The infielder catches the perfectly thrown ball, stands straight up and looks around for a fraction of a second while the base runner easily slides into the base, and then the infielder places the tag on the base runner after he is already sitting on the base so he is obviously safe. If the infielder would have caught the ball, and then immediately placed the tag on the approaching base runner like they would in real life, the base runner would have easily been out. This looks completely unrealistic in the way it is played out. This does not happen nearly as often as it did in the original game, but it does still surface occasionally usually during rallies for some reason. 3) I know outfielders are going to bobble the ball occasionally, and I think this really adds to the game to have an outfielder bobble the ball occasionally. I just had three different outfielders bobble the ball on three consecutive hits one right after the other. This also occurred during a rally of the opposing team. This again takes away from the realism of the game when these small bobbles happen consecutively like this. It feels as if you are really just an actor playing out a scripted game. The final result is that the opposing team is going to score five runs regardless of what you do in trying to stop them. On each of these three bobbles, there would have been very close plays if the outfielder would have caught the ball cleanly and thrown it accurately. It just feels scripted when this happens like this. 4) Double plays just don't look real in this game. The Short-Stop or Second Baseman is thrown for a loop on nearly 100% of the double plays in the game. I usually make the double plays, but my SS or 2nd Baseman is taking out every single time by the sliding base runner. This is simply unrealistic totally. Yes, an infielder will be taking out by a sliding base runner during double plays occasionally. However, This does not happen 100% of the time. By having this happen this way, the double plays in the game just look quircky and unrealistic to watch during instant replays. If there are any fixes to these bugs, please let me know. If these are not fixable, that is fine. Overall, the game is great, and just about as realistic as you can probably get. There are always going to be limitations to making something true to life, so this should only be expected in a computer simulation. Overall, I am very pleased with MVP07. Homer
1. you can play around with the sliders so they don't throw balls as often 2. this one just sux when it happens 3. again, you can play with the sliders and make your fielders better at catching the ball. also, turn off the variable stuff. 4. this is weird, cuz i rarely get taken out. you just have to understand if you throw the ball to 2b and it's going to be close, the guy is gonna get taken out. which i feel is realistic. if i know it's gonna be close, i won't throw the ball there if i don't want my guy to get hurt. big shmooz
Both problem 2 & 4 are actually fixable. You have to go into the datafile & edit the animations of the fielders. I have actually edited this in my datafile. (which I uploaded a long time ago) Maybe try using my datafile & see if it helps any. No guarantees, but it is definitely worth a try. Scmooz, would it be possibe to get the exact line for #2, th ba tagging from you. I really like my datafile as it stands, and I would just like to fix the idiotic tagging. It sounds like you have a handle on it. Thanks!
jscand
Shmooz, Wow, I can't believe I never had your datafile. Excellent work. The double plays turn great now. I did see one tag at second on a steal where he did more of a swipe then needed, but still better than when they would stand up, then drop back down to swipe the tag. The only issue I had was the CPU dropped 6 balls in the first game. Could have been a coincidence though. The guys doing the MVP07 should really take a look at your models.big and datafile for that mod.
