Compmaniac's Cyberface Previews

well nothing's gonna ever be perfect. but for starters, just play the game. if you notice a guy with a generic face that you think should have a face, take a crack at it. you'll find it hard pressed to convince anyone to try a face if your update isn't better than the original. but heck, you're learning fast, but remember that it's gonna take months of doing this before you get good at it.

but off the top of my head, i always thought greg maddux could use an update. ben broussard's face doesn't even look like him. but check the triple A teams. i'm sure there are plenty of guys being requested.

no disrespect Compmaniac, but isn't easier posting previews before uploading them to the site?

anyway, you're off to a good start. I also just started myself and apart from Oedit, I'm starting to get the hang of photoshop. So just keep working at it.

Thanks. I will post a preview.

And, JP_Frost, any tips on cyberface making?

well, Homer's thread -- the xbox tutorial of making cyberfaces, along with Jogar's is a pretty good start. You definately took a difficult face to make in Youkilis.

Try to do it step by step. Get comfortable with all the basic option needed in Photoshop -- free transform, color adjustments, smudge tool, eraser tool. Headshapes make or break a cyberface, so you will have to spend alot of time on that. After all the basics you can try and improve the texture with the sharpening tool. When you are satisfied with your photoshop model, play around with Oedit, which is a pretty difficult program I think, but very helpful. Just try to make as many faces as possible and you will find a method eventually.

If you look at your Youkilis face, you'll notice that his nose is crooked. Not sure which model you used as a base, but try to straighten it. The side of his face is alot darker than the rest of the skintone -- go to Layer and then New Layer Adjustment. Use brightness/contrast, Hue/saturation and the selective color options to blend colors nicely. Other than that it looks pretty good. Like I said Youkilis is a hard one to do, so perhaps you can start with an easier face (Brendan Donnelly for example has a very nice headshot to work with).

hey, your stuff is coming along. It looks like everyone touched up on what you needed regarding your texturing. You're better at picking out head shapes than I am. I'll give you props there. And, you recieved alot more feedback than I did on my preview.... way to go Comp.

Clone Stamp all the way.

i can't agree more. you're moving along greatly, but keep in mind you have weeks if not months more experience needed. you'll get there.

but yes, you should just be posting previews and what not to get advice on your mods. there's no sense in uploading a cyberface if you know that it needs work. but pretty much everything JP said. just keep hacking away at it. you're gonna make nothing but mistakes before you start doing good ones. by the way, your mauer face is getting better.

and angryrat, i saw your thread. don't know if i posted it or not, but it's because i agreed with what everyone was already saying. you just needed to work on the model. was it an 05 face? if so, i think moving some things would make it perfect.

otherwise for everyone's sake, you guys should really do faces that could use improvements.

keep up the good work guys.

not bad. you'll need to work on the mapping. see how it looks like four eyes? that's a mapping issue. for starters, in your texture, you should fill it in with the flesh color. the entire eye.

secondly, open this up in oedit. load your texture and then go to the UV mapper (or whatever it's called). also make sure you're zoomed in on that bottom right window so you can see the effect of your changes. use the select option, and select the mapping for one of the eyes. hit the move button and make sure only vertical is selected. try moving it a little bit and watch it map out better. see if what you can do with it. it's alot to toy with.

homer, I tried what you told me to do.

Could you tell me what else is bad about it?

(Refer to previous post for updated picture.)

Well, I"m going to try to do Ben Broussard next.

Anyone have anymore players that need cyberfaces?

looks like a great update. the eyes still aren't perfect, but you got the idea! may try doing the same thing, but only highlighting the bottom eye lids. also maybe do something similar to the nostrils.

otherwise looks good from what i can see. why not post a preview straight on so i can really see what it looks like.

What do you mean by "highlighting"?

What do you mean the eyes are "almost there"? Could you give me more detail?

Making it more bright with brightness/contrast?

Sorry for being such a pain in the butt.

Also, if I post one straight on, it doesn't look as good:

i know, that's why i wanted you to post it that way :)

but from what i can see, just do exactly what i showed you earlier. except this time, when i mean highlight, i meant select. just instead of selecting the whole eye, select just the bottom of the eye this time and see if you can clean it up that way.

but making goo progress.

and thank you KC for your input. i hope you can really pull it off. i've always wanted to do it, but i use too many different things to be able to make a small tutorial. i'll just have to add input into whatever you post :)

edit: also, do the same thing with the nose. the nostrils, and that area just below the nose look a little off.

comp, did you release the maddux already? :) i thought you were still working on it? you should really wait until you're done tweaking it before you release it. don't feel so rushed to get them out there.

It looks good, but there's one thing missing: It doesn't look like he has Down's Syndrome. This is a joke, by the way, don't take it seriously. I can tell it's Maddux, but he just looks a little cross eyed.

oh yes, he is cross eyed. use the same methods i already told you about, but for the correct eye. make sure you back up your files first!

How come in OEdit 0.2.41, when I mess with the right eye-ball, it changes the left eye-ball in the Perspective view?

you just have to get used to it. that's why i said to back up your files. you're bound to mess up once or twice, if not a dozen times before it starts to make sense. just make sure you're correcting the crossed eye and not the good eye.

Don't be in such a hurry to move onto another face. Your's are starting to look pretty good, but not completed.

looks really good. but it comes down to this...do you want me to get real knit-picky?

otherwise, great improvements. i can't believe how old he is.

completely agree with angryrat (ha! what a name!), you gotta let it just flow. don't rush it. so i'll re'iterate:

this should apply for any face that you do. there's no need to release when it's still in developmental stages. let the cheese age a little before you slice it up.
