Extremely well said, tywiggins. I get so tired of watching people completely misuse and misunderstand the Constitution, that I've lost all energy to try to explain it to people that obviously didn't even pay attention in their begginer's level government classes, much less make any effort at learning about their country's roots. So I appreciate you making such an intelligent response - it saved me a lot of time and effort. :)

I really don't see how freedom of speech applies in this situation. The guy wasn't arrested or charged with anything. Some people don't like what he said, and some are making a big deal about it. If he is fired because of it, so what? As long as he's not arrested because of it, I don't care.

Yeah.

Another example would be...you come into work wearing a wifebeater and cutoffs, sleep through your entire shift and proceed to insult all of your coworkers and employers.

You have the freedom to do all that stuff. But you're also going to get fired for doing all that..

I'll go back to what I said about Mike Richards, when he got into trouble for saying the "N" word. That rappers have made this word practicaly into a household word, and many other words alike. Do I think its right that some people can say them, and others cant, no. Its a double standard.

There's quite a large difference between using the word between friends, and using the word as an insult to harm somebody through words with hatred behind it as Richards was doing.

For instance, I have several friends where we often call each other ethnic slurs. None of us have a problem with it, because we know there's no hate behind those words. But I'm also not going to call them those in public areas, or use it when meeting somebody for the first time. It's about comfortability level. Most often, when a white person calls a black person that word, it's out of hatred. So ofcoarse when a black person is being called that, their going to get deffensive and fast.

Also, almost every black activist doesn't support how loosely the word is used in popular media.

Sorry guys,

I should have left the right/left thing out of it. It was late and it was a comment I should have kept to myself. I didn't mean to pour gas on the fire.

The fact is in this era you can not say anything negative about black people period. I guess we have added "nappy" to the "N" word list. :protest:

He has apolized over and over again.... :balloons:

You can say something negative about a single black person. The problem comes when you generalize and say something about an entire group of black people, assuming that what you say is true because of their blackness. That's racism.

I was able to view the Youtube clip of what Imus said this morning. Sure, it's offensive to those Rutgers girls. But what he said has been part of this guy's radio act for years. Now there's a big problem with what he said?

Now I am not going to support what he said nor am I going to agree with it. I am only going to say that if this guy wants to say this on his radio show then that's what he should do. Don't fire him, even though that's what happened.

You know the best way to get back at Imus? Don't listen to his show. Don't give him the ratings. I have never once listened to one of his shows or watched it on TV. So if this guy gets back on the air it will mean nothing to me.

I remember one thing Howard Stern said to one of his listeners that called in to complain about something he said. He told them if they didn't like the show they should turn the dial and listen to something else. So simple and so easy. Here's what I mean. Do you guys remember that show that was on years ago called "Full House"? You know, the one with the Olsen twins and John Stamos and Bob Saget? I could not stand that show. I gave it a chance but I hated it. So I didn't bit** about it, I watched something else. End of story. What I am trying to say is don't fire Don Imus because people want it done and it is the political correct thing to do. If you don't like what that guy has to say, change the station and he won't bother you again. Trust me, it works.

Y4L -- your Full House post ambushed me like a [badword] ninja. I don't even know why I think it's so funny. It just is.

EDITED because the swear filter didn't filter me!

How rude.

EDIT: I can say this, because by the time someone gets down here and reads this, they will have either gotten the above joke, or they will already have NOT gotten the above joke.

So, before anyone thinks I was calling AstroEric rude, because they didn't get the joke... ... it's a Full House reference. Now - if anyone wants to make fun of me for THAT, go ahead. :)

off-topic but somewhat related:

Did anyone hear about the black family in Toronto that bought a sofa, and the label on the packaging described it as "nigger-brown"? It was on CNN.

what do y'all think of that?

This is total BS, CBS generated 15mil a year in revenue off this guy. How is this racially motivated when Italian (Sicilian) girls have "nappy" hair?

I'm surprised Sharpton didn't go after The Sopranos, they refer to them as Mulians in almost every show. They better ban the hip-hop community from using these words like nothing.
