Jeremy Bonderman picked off Mauer with Garrett Atkins up at the plate, who picked up a base hit up the middle. Adam Jones followed that with another base hit, but Atkins took to wide of a turn at second and was thrown out 9-6 to end the threat. The Royals picked up there first three runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth. When with one out Lance Berkman doubled into the left center gap. Player of the Game: Geoff Jenkins LF - 1 for 3, HR, 3 RBIs, 3 R, IBB ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Managerial Notes: Everyone except for Baldelli picked up at least one base hit tonight, continuing the theme from yesterday's game. Hayden Penn continues to get hit hard but none of the AAA starters have pitched well so he is staying with the team for now. Greg Dobbs went two for five in his start at the DH position. Tony Graffanino played well in his start at shortstop.

Lance Berkman lead off the seventh with a base hit back up the middle, but Josh Willingham robbed Troy Glaus of a two run home run that would have given the Royals the lead. Ryan Doumit finally got the Royals on the board with a solo shot to lead off the eighth, tying the ballgame. Joe Mauer took the lead back for the Blue Jays with a solo shot of his own. James Shields pitched well in this game giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out seven. isd71
Toronto Wins Series with a 5-3 victory Game 3 of 3: Kansas City Royals (4-5) Vs Toronto Blue Jays (5-4) LEFT - The infamous three base error that bounced over the head of Reggie Sanders to give the Royals an early lead. RIGHT - Mike Sweeney's sacrifice fly in the fourth that gave the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead. LEFT - Josh Willingham's towering solo shot in the sixth that dropped into the upper deck. RIGHT - Geoff Jenkins made it a one run game in the eighth with a solo shot of his own. Toronto, ON - The Blue Jays win the three game series against the Kansas City Royals with a 5-3 victory on Wensday. The Royals threatend in the top half of the first with Lance Berkman picking up a two out double and Mike Hampton walking Troy Glaus to follow that, before getting Geoff Jenkins to fly out to end the two out threat. The Royals got on the board in the second inning when Chris Burke dropped a ball in front of the right fielder, Reggie Sanders. Sanders couldn't field it as the ball bounced over his head which allowed John Buck, who had walked to lead off the inning, to score. Burke got all the way to third on the error. Rocco Baldelli continued the two out rally with a RBI single to make it a 2-0 game. Robinson Cano lead off the bottom half of the fourth with a hard hit ball back up the middle that was ruled an error, having gone through the wickets of the pitcher. Garrett Atkins picked up a base hit to move Cano into scoring position, before Andruw Jones knocked in Cano with a RBI single. Reggie Sanders picked up a RBI double to right tying the game at two all. Josh Willingham followed that up with a base on balls. Mike Sweeney knocked in the third run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field. The Royals threatened in the fifth when Rocco Baldelli lead off with a walk before stealing second base. Khalil Greene picked up a base on balls of his own to put two men on and nobody out, but Mike Hampton got three straight outs from Berkman, Glaus and Jenkins to end the threat. Toronto added an insurance run in the sixth with two outs. Josh Willingham went yard for a solo shot into the upperdeck in left field. Geoff Jenkins made it a one run game in the sixth with a solo shot of his own, this one to right field. Robinson Cano made it a two run game when he lead off the ninth with a solo home run to straight away centerfield. Player of the Game: Robinson Cano 2B - 2 for 4, HR, 2 R Around the League Injuries Ted Lilly (CLE) - is headed to the DL with a dislocated finger. Nomar Garciaparra (MIN) - will miss two weeks with a strained right ribcage. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Managerial Notes: Hayden Penn finally had an outing were he didn't give up a run. Jose Capellan gave up another run. Im thinking of yanking him from setup duties and using Ramon Ramirez who has been dominate so far. Capellan is on some games then gives up a run or two then is back on, but his era is almost 5 now. Geoff Jenkins finally hit a lefty so I hope his average will start climbing up. I'm not sure what to do with Greene, Thames, Burke and Baldelli. Greene continues to struggle but is picking up some walks and plays good defense. Thames shows some life from time to time but is hitting only .160. Burke got robbed by the official scorer on what should have been a hit and an error not an error all the way. He gives us speed in the outfield to go along with Baldelli but if Dobbs or Doumit start hitting consistently I'll go with Jenkins in left, Thames in Right and one of those two guys in the DH spot. Tom Gorzelanny was a little bit better but not by much he started off well this time but started struggling towards the end of the game. Last game he was bad to start it and pitched well towards the end of his work so I'm not sure what to think about him.

isd71
Preview of the Upcoming Three Game Series With the Baltimore Orioles Game 1: Vs Advantage: Kansas City Fernando Nieve pitched well in his first start of the season going 5.1 giving up two runs on eight hits but picked up a lose. Miguel Batista went 5.0 innings in his first start and gave up five runs on eights picking up a lose. Game 2: Vs Advantage: Kansas City Roy Halladay comes in with a 1.80 era in two starts and a .73 whip. He's 1-0 on the year having struckout twelve opposing hitters, while averaging over seven innings pitched per start. Javier Vazquez sports a 0-1 record and a 4.15 era. He has only struck out six while walking eight in his thirteen innings pitched. Game 3: Vs Advantage: Kansas City The Royals seem to have the better of all three pitching match ups on paper. Jeremy Bonderman comes in with a 1-0 record and a 4.50 era. He is averaging six innings per start while striking out 5.25 k/9. Bonderman needs to keep the hits to a minimum as hitters are hitting .365 off of him. Jason Jennings has looked ugly in his first two starts despite a 1-1 record. He is averaging under five innings pitched per start and hitters are hitting close to .400 off of him. He is however striking out 7.27 per nine innings pitched, but is allowing close to two base runners per inning pitched.
isd71
Baltimore Takes Advantage of Fernando Nieve's Injury and Put Up a Four Spot In the Fifth LEFT - Vlad tracks down a well hit ball and robs Lance Berkman of a hit and a RBI. RIGHT - Derek Lee makes a diving catch in foul territory to pick up an out. LEFT - Bengie Molina's solo shot to start a 4 run rally in the 5th. RIGHT - Ryan Doumit's second home run makes it a one run game. Fernando Nieve went down in the second inning when Jhonny Peralta smacked a fastball back up the middle, which broke Nieve's left arm. Hayden Penn came on and pitched well at first but gave up four runs and Kansas City lost the game 4-3. The game started off well for the Royals in the first inning when Miguel Batista walked the lead off hitter, Chris Burke. Howie Kendrick followed that up with a base hit to left to put runners on first and second. Vladimir Guerrero robbed Lance Berkman of a hit and a RBI to pickup out number one. Batista tried to pickoff Burke at second but threw the ball away and Burke picked up third base. Troy Glaus knocked in the runner at third when he grounded into a fielder's choice at second. Ray Durham lead off the bottom half of the first with a well hit single that dropped in front of the centerfielder. Shea Hillenbrand fouled out to the catcher Ryan Doumit. Vladimir Guerrero moved the runner into scoring position with a base hit to left. Derrek Lee loaded the bases with a base hit back up the middle, but Nieve struckout Torii Hunter on a full count and then got Luke Scott to ground out. Jhonny Peralta sent a fastball back to where it came from. The ball smacked Nieve's arm and he had to leave the game with a fractured arm. Hayden Penn came in pitch and got all three outs in the second without giving up a run. Nelson Cruz picked up his first hit of the season when he lead off the third inning. Chris Burke flew out to right for the first out. Kendrick singled back up the middle to move Cruz to second. Lance Berkman flew out for the second out of the inning. Troy Glaus smacked a pitch back up the middle that hit the second base bag and rolled into the right center gap area and it allowed the runner to score from second. Geoff Jenkins grounded out to end the threat in the third. The Royals threatened again in the fourth when John Buck lead off the inning with a double into the right field corner. Ryan Doumit lined out to Lance Berkman for the first out. Khalil Greene walked to put runners on first and second. Nelson Cruz grounded into a fielders choice at second base for the second out. Batista with two outs got Burke to pop the ball up to the second baseman to end the threat with a runner on third. Derrek Lee made an awesome catch in foul territory in the top half of the fifth inning. Bengie Molina started the rally for Baltimore in the fifth inning going yard to lead off the inning. Durham reached on a E6. Shea Hillenbrand popped a bunt up to Lance Berkman for the first out. Vladimir Guerrero picked up another base hit this one to left field, moving Durham into scoring position. Derek Lee picked up a RBI with a base hit to center tying the game. Penn got Torii Hunter to strike out looking before walking Luke Scott to load the bases. Jhonny Peralta doubled in two runs making it a 4-2 ballgame. Penn finally got out of the inning when he got Curtis Granderson to ground out to the second baseman, but the damage was done as Baltimore batted around and picked up four runs. Batista walked Geoff Jenkins to lead off the sixth inning but got three straight outs to finish the inning. The Royals started a two out rally in the seventh when Kendrick picked up a base hit and got to third on a hit and run with Troy Glaus picking up another single, but Jenkins grounded out to end the inning. Ryan Doumit picked up his second home run of the season with a solo shot into the right field power alley to make it a one run game but, the Royals failed to score anymore runs. Player of the Game: Jhonny Peralta SS - 2 for 4, 2 RBI, Knocked Fernando Nieve out of the game and his two RBIs gave Baltimore a 4-2 lead. Around the League: Injuries Fernando Nieve (KC) - out for a month with a fractured arm. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Managerial Notes: Fernando Nieve was immediately put on the 15 day DL. Tyler Johnson was called up from AAA Omaha where he was the closer. He pitched in two games picking up two saves while striking out four for the Omaha Royals. This move gives us another lefty in the bullpen but we now have no long man. Matt Guerrier and Mark Lowe will have to eat up three innings each if a starter where to get hurt. Hayden Penn will move into the fifth spot in the rotation because no AAA starter has an era below 5.40 with a couple in the 7-11 era range. Ryan Doumit has looked good so far and will be getting some more starts as the DH. The Royals are on a three game losing streak.
isd71
I put up a poll to see what the popular opinion is about the fifth starter situation. Tyler Johnson will stay up even if one of the two AAA pitchers is decided upon or a trade happens, Penn would go down to AAA. Penn pitched well in long relieve for Nieve but had that one bad inning where he allowed Baltimore to bat around and they put up 4 runs.
isd71
A Two Run Ninth Caps Off A Wild Game For Kansas City Baltimore, MD -- A wild day in Baltimore was capped off with a ninth inning rally by the Kansas City Royals who won the game 5-4. The Royals got on the board first in the top half of the second when with two outs Marcus Thames opened up on one and picked up his first home run of the season. Marcus Thames's First Home Run of the Season Derek Lee lead off the bottom half of that inning with a single in front of the centerfielder, but is erased on a 5-4-3 double play grounded into by Torii Hunter. Baltimore got a runner in scoring position in the third inning when Curtis Granderson singled with one out and stole second base, but Bengie Molina struck out swinging and Shea Hillenbrand ground out to the second baseman. In the fourth Howie Kendrick can't field the ball cleanly and Derek Lee reaches first base safely on one of three errors committed by the Royals. Torii Hunter takes advantage of the error when he hits a two run shot into the right field power alley to give Baltimore a 2-1 lead. Luke Scott tacked on another run with a solo home run down the right field line, his fifth on the season. Jhonny Peralta reached second on what should have been ruled an easy double but the scorer charged Geoff Jenkins with an error because he is slow. Roy Halladay finally calmed down though and got Curtis Granderson to ground back to the pitcher and Bengie Molina to strikeout again. The Kendrick error Torii Hunter's Home Run Luke Scott pulling one down the right field line for a solo shot The Orioles would score again in the fifth when Ray Durham lead the inning off witha double into the right center gap. With one out Vladimir Guerrero knocked in Durham with a base hit to center. Derek Lee followed with a base hit of his own, but Halladay got Hunter and Luke Scott to ground out to end the inning. The damage was done however with Baltimore taking a 4-1 lead. The sixth inning would have loomed large in the minds of Kansas City fans if not for the ninth inning heroics, as Howie Kendrick picked up a base hit with one out but was caught stealing while Lance Berkman was up. Berkman walked for Geoff Jenkins who muscled one out to straight away centerfield to make it a 4-3 ballgame. John Buck, who is in a cold spot, grounded out to end the inning. Kendrick's decision to run could have been the deciding factor in the game. Geoff Jenkins makes it a one run game with an old school home run to centerfield. Javier Vazquez walked the lead off hitter in the seventh inning, Marcus Thames. Ryan Doumit grounded out to the second base man, Thames advanced to second on the throw. Troy Glaus pinched hit for the shortstop, Khalil Greene, and walked. Greg Dobbs pinched hit for Tony Graffanino and flew out for the second out of the inning. Rocco Baldelli picked up a base hit to left field which loaded the bases, but Howie Kendrick flew out to center to end the inning. The game got scary for Kansas City in the bottom half of the inning when Roy Halladay was hit in the face with a ball off the bat of Vladimir Guerrero and would have to leave the game with a fractured nose. With two outs in the inning Derek Lee reached second on a wild throw by Troy Glaus and it was ruled an E6, but Torii Hunter grounded out to second base. Ryan Doumit hit a towering homer run over the scoreboard in right field blowing Dan Wheeler's save chance. Greg Dobbs followed that up with a base hit to center. Rocco Baldelli doubled in Dobbs with a hard hit ball that rolled all the way to the wall near the 410 sign in left center. Baldelli gave Kansas City a 5-4 lead. Jose Cruz Jr looks up and you can put it on the board. YES!!!! Ryan Doumit game tying solo shot in the 9th. Rocco Baldelli's game winning double in the 9th Chris Ray came on to close out the game but Baltimore wasn't going to make it easy for him. Ray Durham lead off the ninth with a base hit to right field. Shea Hillenbrand popped up the bunt attempt to third and become the first out of the inning. Jose Cruz Jr. doubled off the right field scoreboard to put runners on second and third with one out, but Derek Lee struckout looking on a full count and Troii Hunter flew out to left to cap off a crazy game. Player of the Game: Ryan Doumit DH - 1 for 3, A Huge Game Tying HR, BB Around The League: Roy Halladay (KC) - will be out for two or three days with a fractured nose but will make his next start. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Managerial Notes: Ryan Doumit has homered in three straight games. The way he is hitting has forced me to put him in the everyday lineup. I'm going to ride the hot bat till some of the higher rated players start hitting. Marcus Thames showed some sign of life when he walked and hit a solo home run today, but with Chris Burke now joining Nelson Cruz on the bench, with Doumit now starting as the DH and Jenkins in LF, his playing time is gonna be cut. Roy Halladay's injury scared me after just losing Fernando Nieve in yesterday's game, but he will be back for his next start. Geoff Jenkins hit his team leading fifth home run today but is batting only .184. He won't be playing much against lefties now that I have two outfielders on the bench. Mark Lowe picked up his second win in relief today and has been unhittable throwing 100 mph and striking out just about every batter he faces. A left side of the infield consisting of Greg Dobbs at third base and Troy Glaus at short wasn't pretty but got the job done.
isd71
New Lineup: As you can see Ryan Doumit's numbers are forcing me to put him in the everyday lineup as the DH with Geoff Jenkins taking over in LF and Chris Burke moving to the bench. Burke and Cruz will be getting some ABs against lefties in place of Jenkins and share time with Thames. I have considered calling up another hitter from AAA and sending one of them down but the only guys hitting so far are Reggie Abercrombie and Carlos Pena. Abercrombie is another outfielder so its not a great choice. Pena could be used as a late inning replacement at first base for defense.
isd71
Game 3 of 4: Kansas City Royals (6-6) vs Baltimore Orioles (5-7) Royals Hold On and Pick Up a Road Series Win Baltimore, MD - The Kansas City Royals (5-6) engaged in a pitcher's duel with the Baltimore Orioles (5-6) and picked up a close 3-2 victory and got their record back to .500. Jeremy Bonderman pitched well in his start going 6.2 innings giving up five hits and no runs. Bonderman got in some trouble with one out in the third when he gave up back to back base hits to Curtis Granderson and Bengie Molina to put runners on first and second. Bonderman, however, got Ray Durham to fly out to center and Troy Tulowitzki to pop up to short. Troy Glaus put Kansas City on the board with two outs in the fourth inning. Glaus dropped a solo shot over the centerfield wall by the hitter's eye to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. Kansas City threatened again in the fifth with two outs, when Greg Dobbs got all the way to second base on a wild throw by Tulowitzki, but Khalil Greene grounded out to short to end the inning. With one out in the seventh Geoff Jenkins lined a hard hit ball that smacked the right field wall but was quickly picked up by Vladimir Guerrero and Jenkins was held to a single. Marcus Thames walked to put Jenkins in scoring position but Ryan Doumit grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. Bonderman was chased from the game in the seventh when Baltimore started a two out rally. Luke Scott and Jhonny Peralta picked up back to back singles to but runners on first and second and with the lefty Curtis Granderson coming up the manager, Buddy Bell, decided to go with the lefty out of the pen. Tyler Johnson came on for his first appearance of the season and got Granderson to foul out thanks to an incredible diving catch made by Chris Burke in left. Khalil Greene opened up on one in the eighth inning with one out and picks up his second double of the season. Rocco Baldelli drove in Greene with a base hit back up the middle. Howie Kendrick grounded out to move Baldelli into scoring position with two out, but Joe Borowski struck out Lance Berkman to end the inning, but Kansas City had added another run to make it a 2-0 lead. Baltimore had other plans, however, and picked up two runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Bengie Molina lead off the inning with a hard hit single to center. Troy Glaus robbed Ray Durham of a base hit in the gap to pick up the first out of the inning, but Vladimir Guerrero smacked a game tying two run home run to tie the game, making Glaus' diving catch huge if he doesn't get to the ball its a walk off homer for Vlad. The ninth inning was uneventful for both teams with each picking up an one out base hit but neither coming around to score. The tenth inning seemed to be continuing on the same path until with two outs Rocco Baldelli busted a two out triple. Howie Kendrick picked up the game winning RBI with a single to center. The skipper put the hit and run on with a 2-0 count and Lance Berkman at the plate and he delivered a base hit moving Kendrick to third base. Troy Glaus, however, struck out looking on a full count to end the inning. Chris Ray pitched a scoreless ninth and tenth inning to pick up his first win of the season giving up one hit while striking out two. The Royals improve their record in one run games to 4-4 and have now one two straight games. Player of the Game: The Delli Slicer, Rocco Baldelli CF - 2 for 5, A huge two out 3B in the 10th, RBI Around the League: Kenny Lofton (CLE) - is gonna miss most atleast a week with an inflamed elbow. Justin Morneau (HOU) - sprained his right hip flexor and will be out for about two weeks.
isd71
Due to the site being down thanks to the Hacker I got backed up on some updates and since I want to keep playing instead of stopping to update I'm going to list the boxscores here and inform you about the moves I made dealing with the bench. Nelson Cruz and Chris Burke were both sent to AAA with Carlos Pena and Chris Denorfia being recalled. Pena was hitting .352/.400/.784 with 5 HRs and 8 RBIs. Denorfia was hitting .383/.512/.736 with 4 HRs and 11 RBIs. The Royals are currently stuck in the second three game losing streak of the season. Since moving Ryan Doumit into the starting lineup he has tanked and is now hitting .190 so I'm going back to a roaming DH.

Baldelli stole second base during Howie Kendrick's at bat but he struck out swinging for the first out of the inning. Troy Glaus drove in Baldelli with a base hit to left to tie the game at one run a piece. Khalil Greene made a diving catch ranging to his right and threw out Esteban German with one out in the fifth inning.(3) (3) Marcus Thames lead off the fifth inning with a bloop base hit that dropped in front of the center fielder. John Buck walked on a 3-1 pitch and moved Thames into scoring position. Billingsley got Khalil Greene to ground into an inning ending double play. Minnesota would threaten right back in the top half of the sixth when Nomar Garciaparra reached first base on a fielder's choice before moving into second after Aaron Rowand picked up a base hit with two outs. Bonderman loaded the bases with four straight balls to Andy LaRoche, but got Rondell White to fly out to the warning track in left to end the threat in the sixth. The Royals picked up two runs in the sixth inning when Rocco Baldelli lead off with his second base hit of the game, before stealing second base for his sixth stolen base on the season. Troy Glaus drove in Baldelli with two outs to break open a 1-1 tie. Geoff Jenkins moved Glaus to second base with a screaming base hit back up the middle. Marcus Thames somehow kept a ball fair that hit right on the foul line and plated Glaus from second base.(4) Kansas City took a 3-1 lead, but failed to score anymore runs when John Buck struck out swinging to end the inning. (4) Chad Billingsley had to leave the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with minor wrist tendonitis and probably will miss his next start. The Twins despite a good first inning where they scored a run, but got two more runners thrown out at the plate, failed to score off of Bonderman again until the eighth inning. When Michael Barrett hit a solo shot to the right center power alley.(5) (5) The Royals threatened to bust the game open one more time in the eighth when Lance Berkman singled to right with one out and Geoff Jenkins walked with two outs to put runners on first and second, but Marcus Thames struck out swinging to end the threat. Chris Ray pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pickup his fourth save of the season. The Kansas City Royals continued their five game home stand with game two of a three game series against the Minesota Twins tomorrow at 7:10 PM. Player of the Game: Rocco Baldelli CF - 2 for 4, 2 Runs Scored, 2 SBs Around the League: Trading Block R.A. Dickey (CIN) - The Reds have placed 32 year old R.A. Dickey on the trading block. He has pitched 8.1 innings and possess a 6.48 ERA on the season. Injuries Chad Billingsley (MIN) - Billingsley is suffering from minor wrist tendonitis and will definitely miss his next start but should avoid the DL. J.P. Howell (SD) - Howell suffered a fractured leg during his latest outing and will be out for at least two months. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Managerial Notes: Jeremy Bonderman's first inning was scary but he settled down and pitched six straight scoreless innings. Chris Ray stayed dominate with a scoreless 9th inning picking up his fourth save of the season. Kansas City scored three runs despite not picking up a single extra base hit. Rocco Baldelli went two for four, scoring two runs and stole two bases. Troy Glaus also went two for four, and drove in two runs and scored a run of his own. Marcus Thames also went two for four and picked up a RBI. I started Greg Dobbs at DH today but he failed to do anything. I'm just gonna keep rotating the bench into the starting lineup till someone gets hot again if nothing else Carlos Pena and Chris Denorfia both give us better defense. Even though Jenkins has a cannon, which is evidenced by the throw he made to get Barrett in the first, he is really slow in the field. When Rondel White hit that ball to the warning track with the bases loaded I was scared that Jenkins wasn't even going to get to the ball.
isd71
The Royals Get Back to .500 With a 3-1 Win Against the Twins Game 2 of 3: Minnesota Twins (5-13) Vs Kansas City Royals (9-9) Kansas City - The Kansas City Royals picked up single runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings to take their third straight game with a 3-1 win today at Kauffman Stadium. Carlos Villanueva got two quick outs in the first, but Lance Berkman jumped on the first pitch he saw and smoked one over the right center wall. Berkman's fifth home run of the season was a 435ft shot into the fountains.(1) Troy Glaus jumped on a changeup and smacked it into center field for a two out base hit, but Geoff Jenkins grounded out to end the inning. In the bottom of the second inning Khalil Greene hit a screaming ground ball back up the middle for a base hit. The Shortstop, Hanley Ramirez, felt Greene got to far away from first base and threw over, but the throw was wide and Greene got to second base on the error. Carlos Villanueva, however, got Tony Graffanino to fly out to center to end the inning. Esteban German leads off the top half of the fourth inning with a double that smacked off the wall in left field. German became Minnesota's first base runner of the game as James Shields was perfect the first time through the order. Hanley Ramirez lays down a perfect bunt down the first base line and beat the throw to put runners on the corners with no outs.(2) Hideki Matsui flys out to center, driving in German to tie the game at one run a piece. Ramirez steals second with two outs in the inning, but Nomar popped up to the second baseman, Tony Graffanino, for the final out of the inning. Rocco Baldelli smacked an one out double to left field to put a runner in scoring position for the Royals. With two outs Lance Berkman pulled the first pitch he saw to the wall in right. James Loney, however, got to the ball but failed to make the out allowing Baldelli to score and Berkman to reach second base on the E9. James Shields' got in some trouble in the sixth inning when with one out Esteban German and Hanley Ramirez hit back to back singles to but runners on first and second. Shields, however, struck out Heidki Matsui for the second out of the inning, and got Melhuse to ground out to end the inning. Geoff Jenkins unloaded on the first pitch he saw in the bottom half of the sixth and hit his team leading sixth home run of the season. This one a 408ft shot to straight away center field.(3) Marcus Thames followed that up with a walk on four straight pitches. John Buck grounds out, but moves Thames into scoring position. Carlos Villanueva got two straight outs to end the threat in the sixth. James Shields pitched seven innings of four hit ball giving up only one run on the day. He picked up his second win of the season advancing his record to 2-2. Troy Glaus lead off the bottom of the eighth with a base hit to center. The Manager inserted Greg Dobbs as a pitch runner for Glaus. With one out now in the eighth Marcus Thames hit what looked like an easy double play ball but the second baseman, German, rushed the throw and it went into the right field putting runners on first and second base. John Buck, however, grounded into an unusual double play. The was hard hit and went right to the first baseman who tagged out the runner at first base before stepping on the first for a 3 unassisted double play. Chris Ray came on in the ninth and pitched a perfect inning for his fifth save of the season, giving the Royals their third straight win. Player of the Game: James Shields SP - W, 7.0 IP, 4, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO --------------------- Managerial Notes: John Buck has cooled off some going five for his last thirty three and his batting average has dropped to .267. Troy Glaus on the other hand is hot. He is eight for his last sixteen, with a home run and five runs batted in. I'm going to give Hayden Penn one more start and then make a decision on whether to move him back to the pen, send him down or keep him in the rotation. He pitches well most of the time but keeps having one bad inning right when he comes in the game, but always settles down. So his stats are deciving. Ezequiel Astacio has started to pitch well in Omaha. He picked up his second win today and has lowered his era to 3.38. He appears to be the favorite if Hayden Penn is removed from the rotation. Minnesota Twins' manager, Ron Gardenhire, was thrown out of the game after the completion of the top half of the sixth inning. Player of the Game: Hideki Matsui - 2 for 4, 1 R, lead off the ninth with a base hit and scored the tying run. Around the League: Injuries Tom Gorzelanny (KC) - Appears to be head to the disabled list after having to be removed from his last start with minor wrist tendinitis. He should be ready to contribute again by the time he comes off the disabled list. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Managerial Notes: Tom Gorzelanny injured himself in the sixth inning and will be put on the 15 day disabled list. Ezequiel Astacio, who we were looking at to replace Hayden Penn in the rotation, was called up from AAA to take Gorzelanny spot in the rotation. Astacio was 2-1 in four starts with an ERA of 2.52. He struck out 23 in 25 innings pitched. Chris Ray blew up in the ninth inning giving up three runs, though two scored on a E5 so only one RBI in the inning. Troy Glaus stayed hot going two for four with his fifth home run of the season. John Buck, who had been cold, got the day off. Ryan Doumit started behind the plate, but went 0 for 2 with a walk. He did show a good arm throwing out Esteban German. Geoff Jenkins was the designated hitter in today's game with Chris Denorfia starting in left field. Denorfia was 1 for 1 on the day with a pair of walks. On a side not if you look at the pitching part of the box score you'll notice that I used the whole bullpen. It just worked out that way, because I was trying to match up our two lefties against Matsui.

Hayden Penn (0-2) allowed two runs in the second, but held the White Sox to just one run over the last seven innings of the game, in what easily his best outing of the year. Penn gave up three runs on eleven hits in nine innings of work. Penn faced the minimum in the first inning thanks to a double play but he got in trouble in the second when Gomes and Mike Jacobs hit back to back singles leading off the inning. Ramon Hernandez then cleared the bases with a double, giving Chicago the early 2-0 lead. Troy Glaus is on fire going three for three today and he scored all three of our runs. Lance Berkman has been in a slump and still isn't showing any sign of coming out of it. Rocco Baldelli and Howie Kendrick went a combined zero for eight today and both have seen their averages drop significantly in the past couple of weeks. John Buck has started to come out of his funk from last week. He went two for four today with a RBI and his average has risen to .284. Khalil Greene got the day off today with Tony Graffanino playing shortstop in his place. He went one for four today. Chris Denorfia got a start against a right hander today and it was ugly he went zero for four with a strikeout. Marcus Thames got a half day off moving into the designated hitter spot. Nathan was absolutely dominate going nine perfect innings out of the bullpen. He picked up his second win of the season in his stellar relief outing. After no scoring for ten straight innings the Twins finally broke through in the seventeenth inning when Nomar Garciaparra led off with a double down the left field line and Andy LaRoche smacked a walk off single to the gap in right center plating Nomar and giving the Twins their fourth straight win. (6) Geoff Jenkins put the Kansas City Royals on the board for the first time way back in the second inning. Adam Melhuse picked up a two-out single, before Nomar Garciaparra hammered a two run home run to give the Twins the lead in the fourth. (2) The Royals responded to the Nomar homer in the top of the fifth. Khalil Greene led off the inning with his second base hit of game. Tony Graffanino followed Greene's base hit with an infield single putting a runner in scoring position. Marcus Thames tied the game with a one out single. Andy LaRoche led off the inning with a double to the center field wall and Rondell White drove him in with a base hit and Heidki Matsui blasted a two-out three run home run to give the Twins the lead. John Buck doubled with one out to start the rally and with two outs Khalil Greene picked up his fourth hit of the day moving Buck to third base , but Tony Graffanino struckout swinging to end the inning. Player of the Game: Nomar Garciaparra 1B --- 3 for 7, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R Around the League: Trading Block Matt Wise (ARI) – The Diamondbacks have placed Wise on the trading block. So far this season he is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA in eighteen innings of work. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Managerial Notes: The Royals have lost four straight games, three of which were decided by one run or less. This is the longest losing streak of the seasons for Kansas City. Rocco Baldelli continues to slump going 0 for 7 in today's game. I'm going to give him the day off tommorrow. Chris Denorfia will get the start in center, despite going 0 for 2 today. Khalil Greene finally did something other than play great defense going four for four to start the game and had a game tying home run in the sixth. Howie Kendrick got a day off. Tony Graffanino go the start at second but went only one for seven. I have no clue what to do with the DH spot Ryan Doumit went 0 for 6 with a walk today. Carlos Pena and Denorfia both went 0 for 2 so there chances of getting everyday playing time wasn't helped any. Troy Glaus should see the bench tomorrow as well and hopefully Greg Dobbs will show us something if not we might see a trade at some point this team is one hitter short right now. Marcus Thames was moved up in the order with Kendrick getting the day off and really responded early in the game. He started out 2 for 4 with a RBI single but like everyone else went 0 for against Nathan. Jeremy Bonderman really could have prevented the loss. He was pitching well to start the game but gave up six runs in only five innings of work.

Craig Hansen (SEA) --- The Mariners also placed Hansen on the trading block. Hansen is the opposite of Mattews Jr. He is having a pretty good season out of the Seattle pen. He has a 2.46 ERA in 14.2 innings of work. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Managerial Notes: Chris Ray has under half his stamina and will be getting tomorrow off. Mark Lowe or Matt Guerrier will be getting any save chance. The bullpen was dominate in this game allowing only three base runners over the span of 4.1 innings. Tyler Johnson got his first win of the season with a scoreless inning and a third. Khalil Greene has raised his average from .207 to .253 in just three games. Ryan Doumit hammered his fourth home run in his start at catcher.
