thr33niL
Going mad on how incompetently the Mariners have been run the last few years, I am taking things in my own hands! I am basing this dynasty on the "what if" rational. There were tons of rumors this off-season that had good looking outcomes but of course, only the bad rumors came true. Soriano dealt for Ramirez and the FA pitching acquisitions have looked abhorrent to start the 2007 season. So back to the rumor base... The main rumor I am basing my transactions on is the 3-way mutterings around the Mariners, Giants and Braves. These may have never happened for good reason but I am going to pretend that Bavasi wasn't an idiot and had the ability to fleece other GMs instead of being the fleece-ee all the time. So I am conceding that these deals didn't go down because they would have benefited the Mariners more than the other clubs, but hey, its my dynasty. Meat and potatoes.. There was a rumor all winter on the Mariners maybe moving Sexson to the Giants and Soriano to the Braves. Early on in the winter, the Braves were seeming to want to lose Hudson and his contract. They were also looking to deal LaRoche for a shutdown reliever. They were actually in the market for 2 solid relievers. It was also known everywhere that the Giants wanted to dump Benitez and were in the market for a 1B after the departure of Hillenbrand (pre-Klesko). The Mariners meanwhile are always dying for pitching. So this is what I came up with. Mariners send: Sexson and Blackley to the Giants / Soriano to the Braves Giants send: Lowry to the Mariners / Benitez to the Braves Braves send: Hudson and LaRoche to the Mariners Like I said, I believe the Mariners make out like bandits and is why it probably never happened. Specifically since the Braves changed their mind on Hudson and Lowry was never available in a Sexson deal. But hell, I like it! I also plan on using youth for the bullpen keep the likes of Mateo and Rhodes in AAA. I was initially against the Vidro deal but after watching the guy, I am starting to like him at DH. So I am going to hold onto him. Here is how things are lining out to start my season. Pitching ------------------- Felix Hernandez Tim Hudson Noah Lowry Jarrod Washburn Cha-Seung Baek J.J. Putz Mark Lowe Eric O'Flaherty George Sherrill Jon Huber Sean White Chris Reitsma Position Players ------------------- CF Ichiro 3B Adrian Beltre DH Jose Vidro LF Raul Ibanez 1B Adam LaRoche RF Jose Guillen C Kenji Johjima SS Yuniesky Betancourt 2B Jose Lopez Bench ------------------- 1B/OF Ben Broussard UTIL Willie Bloomquist OF Jeremy Reed C Jamie Burke What did I do with the likes of Batista, Weaver and such? Well I had Weaver re-up with the Cards for the rumored 2/12 he had on the table. I had Batista sign with the Braves since they were in the hunt for him and could have used him if they lost Hudson. All trades that didn't happen left the guys like Gonzalez in Pitt, Ramirez still in ATL, etc. Balances out. Well I'm off to play my first game with my personalized Mariners. Should be a lot funner with a good pitching staff for a change. I never have posted a dynasty before so I may just update series by series. Not sure yet. I'm using KG's 3.0 rosters with a few small corrections. All-Star difficulty with tough sliders and a stock datafile with some camera tweaks. thr33niL
Finally getting around to starting the season off. Starting off with the Oakland A's at home. One other twist I forgot to mention.. ..Hargrove was canned and I brought in none other than Edgar Martinez to be the manager. LaRoche started off the season with an opposite field single to drive in the first run of the year. Pretty much slammed Harden around and he only lasted 2 2/3's giving up 4 earned runs. Felix had a decent outing going 7 and striking out 7. Lost it a bit in the 8th with Lowe and Sherrill. Walked a guy and gave up back-to-back doubles. Will see how Hudson and Lowry like the new digs in the nest 2 starts. Should be neat to be able to use competent pitchers this go around.
thr33niL
Pretty sweet. Is Lowe going to be your closer? Lowe is the primary set-up man like he would have been this year with Soriano gone and if not for his injury. Putz will be the closer. Forgot to mention. First game of the year, Raul goes down with a knee injury. Luckily its only the 15 day DL. Having Reed/Broussard start in his absence. Heck of a way to start a dynasty. D-Unit
Nice. Maybe blue font for a nice touch and you're all set. Using Edgar as the manager is a great idea too.

thr33niL
lot of singles, you gotta get those big guys to go yard This is still the Mariners we are talking about.. Losing Sexson actually hurt the power side. I plan of making a deal or two to fix that sometime during the season. But with the good pitching, I should be in every game. thr33niL
Logged a couple more games. The funky line here is the 1 hitter I got smoked with but somehow scored 3 runs. Well after two straight walks, LaRoche took the only hit deep. The second was a decent route but Lowry gave up 3 jacks. Good thing is that Hudson and Lowry went 8 and 7 innings respectively. Took 2 of 3 from the A's. Good first series. Here's a shot of Reed robbing a 3-run homer in game 3.

You probably can't tell, but I redid the texture for LaRoche. The one he had was pretty rough. Another thing I am going to have to do is get another Lowry face done. The one he has now is rough and his head is as big as a watermelon. Ugh.
