Hogfan2502
My cpu has about had it and it won't run MVP 07 very good but i need to buy a new cpu anyway for work, etc. I was just wondering if anyone can suggest a place to order an awesome CPU and get my money's worth? I've always used DELL for the past 10 years but it seems they are getting higher and higher and not giving me what i need to run todays games, etc. Any suggestions guys on where i can order a new cpu? MarkB
If you want a gaming system and are reasonably happy with Dell, take a look at the XPS systems. Some of them are based on the acquisition of Alienware and should have plenty of muscle to run the latest games and more. Let me know if you need any further information, I have some tech. sheets and things like that. Working for Dell has it's advantages. :)

Hogfan2502
Well thats the thing. I like to customize my computer to fit what i want and would use it for. Thats why i like Dell because i can do that but when i customized the XPS 410 and even the 710, the price is around $2800. I've just been looking at what people suggest for other companies and it seems i can get a lot better computer for a lot less at other places. Just trying to get the best deal and get a very good system that will last a while. $2800 is way more than i want to spend so... Just trying to see what everyone suggests. Thanks for all your help guys. Keep suggesting and i'll keep looking. Again i like to customize and some of the places like Buy.com etc you can't customize. stilts
here, OP, let me help you. for much less than that $2800 you'd spend at an (IMO) horrible, overpriced retailer such as Dell, why don't you try these sites if you don't want to build your own rig: http://www.ibuypower.com - awesome setup, tons of options, stellar price. http://www.pricewatch.com - if you just need a new CPU / moBo config, find one here and buy it i'm going to be late for class, so if you need other sites, re-post after this and i'll see what i can find for you. good luck in your search, and please, please, please (!) don't go with Dell. i've heard too many horror stories. Yeah, $2800 is pretty steep - if that's the level of system you're looking for, I'd skip Dell as well. Good luck with whatever you choose to build, though. brutushayesosu
http://www.velocitymicro.com/wizard.php?iid=2 tinker around with that until you reach your price range. $2800 will get you one very nice computer. Maybe Tigerdirect as well.
IronicMan
There's some shady business in the pricewatch.com list. It's wise to spend at least 2-3 months to get cheap components to build a killer machine. Also, know when a price cut will come (Intel will have another price cut Q3 of 2007, a quad core 6600 can cost as little as $230-240). Memory right now might continue to drop, a few day back the 2X1GB of Corsair DDR2 1000 cost as low as $90 AR. There's also a time that a PNY 8800 GTS 320MB cost as little as $230 AR (could get cheaper if the 2900XTX isn't a bust when it comes out.. which right now, doesn't look good). If you try to build close to the best (assuming you will OC instead of paying a premium for the best of the best), it'll probably close to $1500 altogether.
