Reds Lose Opening Day 3-1

BOX SCORE---OPENING DAY

Cincinnati pulled ahead 1-0 after Manny Ramirez doubled to center to drive in Juan Pierre against starter Dontrelle Willis (1-0) in the 1st inning. The Reds could not score again. Willis struck out 8 in 7 innings, giving up 3 hits and 1 walk. On the other side, Mark Buehrle (0-1) gave up 7 hits 2 runs and struck out 4 in 8 innings. Adam LaRoche's home run off Matt Belisle in the top of the 9th,made sure the Reds could not come back. I'm screaming, 'Go foul,' and he's screaming, 'Go fair,"' Belisle said. "Too bad it went fair."

The Reds look to rebound with Matt Morris on the mound for the next game.

Reds Lose 2nd Straight, 3-2

Box Score--Game 2

• Summary: A.J. Pierzynski's 1st homerun, a two-run shot, is the first homerun for the Reds this season. But Alex Rios triple and Aaron Hill RBI single pulled the Cubs ahead 3-2 in the 8th. Mark Prior (1-0) went 7 innings with 5 hits, 2 runs (1 HR), and 10 strikeouts. Brad Lidge picked up his 2nd save. Reds pitcher Matt Morris went 6.1 innings with 5 hits, 2 runs (1 HR) and 2 strikeouts but Homer Bailey (0-1) picked up the loss, throwing 1.2 innings, allowing 2 hits, and 1 run with 2 strikeouts.

• Turning point: Cristian Guzman single in the bottom of the 8th with Pitch-Hitter Adam Dunn stepping to the plate. But Cubs pitcher, Scott Linebrinkgot got Dunn to ground out into a double play, avoiding a potential Reds rally.

• Figure this: Derrek Lee is hitless after 2 games going 0-8 with 4 strike outs!

Reds will try to win their 1st game with righty Jeff Suppan starting.

Cubs Complete The Sweep-Down Reds, 3-2

Box Score-Game 3--Cubs @ Reds

Summary: Benito Santiago and Scott Thorman both had their 1st homeruns of the season. While the Reds continue their hitting slump. Cristian Guzman and pitcher Jeff Suppan had the only RBI's for the Reds. Scott Thorman's HR was the game winner in the top of the 10th. Cubs pitcher Edwin Jackson played through 8 innings, giving up 7 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 9. Brad Lidge (1-0), however, won the game pitching 2 innings of work and stricking out 4 key batters. Reds pitcher Jeff Suppan had 8 innings of work, giving up 1 run and 10 hits, while also striking out 3 batters. Jonathan Broxton (0-1) picked up the loss, pitching 2 innings and giving up 3 big hits and 2 game ending runs, while still striking out 1.

• Turning point: Jonathan Broxton replaces Jeff Suppan in the 9th inning. He gives a HR in the top of the 9th to tie the game and gives up the game winner in the top of the 10th.

• Figure this: Derrek Lee is still hitless after 3 games going 0-12 with 5 strike outs!

• Quotable: Nobody feels worse than us when (starters) go out and constantly pitch ballgames and then we give it up,"Broxton said. "(Manager) Jerry (Narron) can't feel like, every time he goes to the bullpen, he doesn't know what he's getting."

Reds continue trying to get their first win of the season with lefty David Wells on the mound

Reds make their first trade after losing the series with the Cubs...Some say this might be to much to give.....but the Reds Need Hitters...and Glaus is a hitter.

Reds Win! 2-1 in 11 innings

Box Score--Game 4--Pirates @ Reds

• Summary: The Reds finally won their first game of the season off a Cristian Guzman single and a newly acquired Troy Glaus run, in the bottom of the 11th inning. Starting pitcher David Wells of the Reds pitched 7 strong innings giving up 6 hits, 1 run and 2 strikeouts. Matt Belisle (1-0) picked up the win however, pitching 2 innings giving up 0 hits,0 runs and 1 strikeout to help seal the win. Pirates pitcher Tony Armas Jr. pitched 7 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run and had 10 strikeouts. Reliever B.J. Ryan (0-1) of the Pirates, picked up the loss, giving up 3 hits, 1 run and 2 strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work. Geoff Jenkins of the Reds is making himself known around the league as one of the best hitters of the season so far, posting a .429 Batting Avg., through 15 at bats

• Hero: Glaus hit his 2nd single of the game and won the game with a run in the bottom of the 11th. Glaus was just acquired with a trade with Houston.

• Figure this: Derrek Lee is still hitless after 4 games going 0-17 with 6 strike outs!

• Quotable: “I'm just trying to hit it, that's it. I was told a long time ago when I first came up, we're producers, not directors." Glaus said. "All you can do is hit it, you can't control where it goes and if it happens to go somewhere, fine.â€

Adam Wainwright will be starting for the Reds, who look to make it 2-in-a-row.
