Rockies Open Season With Victory After Big 4th Inning

The Colorado Rockies are on top of the NL West after a 4-1 victory over the San Diego Padres at Coors Field. The win was credited to Jason Jennings, who pitched 8 strong innings, allowing a single run and only three hits. He also struck out 6.

Things opened up bleak for the home team, as Jennings allowed a solo homer to Dave Roberts on the first pitch of the game. Two batters later, Phil Nevin would triple, but Jennings would hold the Padres to a single run. That began the streak of 21 consecutive batters that Jennings would retire.

The Rockies finally got things going in the 4th, when Clint Barmes lead off the inning with a double. He was followed by the pitcher, Jennings, who singled up the middle to give the Rockies first and third. Aaron Miles knocked in Barmes with an RBI single to tie the game at 1. Two batters later, Todd Helton broke the game open with a 3 run bomb to right field. That gave the Rockies a 4-1 lead.

It was smooth sailing after that for the Rockies, who would only allow a single hit for the rest of the game. Brian Fuentes came in with a 1, 2, 3 ninth inning to give the Rockies their first win. The same two teams will play in Coors Field tomorrow night.

Rockies Lose Due to 7th Inning Breakdown

The Colorodo Rockies had a great bottom of the 6th against the San Diego Padres but could not keep the lead. After a miss dive by Dustin Mohr the Padres started off the inning with a lead off triple. After yet another failed dive attempt this time by Preston Wilson but he recovered in time to make that only a double. Followed by a single which ended up being the deciding run the Rockies were held scoreless after that great top of the 7th run by the Padres. Jeff Francis was credited with the loss and the Rockies split the series with the Padres 1-1. The Rockies will travel to San Francisco for a 3 game series.

Rockies Get Hammered to Open Series With Giants

The Colorado Rockies suffered a huge loss tonight 12-4 to the San Francisco. A big bottom of the 2nd inning for the Giants in which they scored 7 runs really put the Rockies away. Chun-Hui Tsao only lasted two innings and suffered the defeat. The bullpen would allow five solo homers sprinkled throughout the rest of the game. The only bright spot for the Rockies was the two homers hit by Todd Helton. The same two teams will play tomorrow.
