Thank You.

Forgive me if I've heard incorrectly, but aren't AMD processors better for gaming?

A 7300GT is not a gamer card...

For 850$, might as well build yourself one.

What is the best gamer card on the market?, and would I be better off with just a single video card, or 2 video cards using SLI?

The AMD Athlon chips were the dominant gaming processors for the past two years. The new Intel Core 2 Duo chips have a vast performance increase. The only AMD chips that compete now are the ones in the mid to budget price range, Intel is the high end performance king for now.

SLI is not supported for all games, many yes, but not all. SLI is really meant for that person with money burning a whole in their pocket and they want the absolute best performance. If you had a budget of $400 for a video card purchase, the performance would tend to be better with the one $400 higher series card than two $200 lower series cards in SLI.

What is the best gamer card on the market? It really depends on what you're playing. If it's just MVP, any Nvida card 7600 or above would easily meet those needs, for ATI x1900 or above will serve just fine.

However with new DirectX 10 games coming out, you would need a Dx10 card to support those features. If you only play MVP or older games, don't worry about it, because they won't get any improvements from it. If you want a gaming machine for future games, it would be better to get a Dx10 video card, problem is there are no Dx10 games to test performance on at the moment. :|

As of right now, MVP is the only game that i play on the PC, but I do hope to get into other PC games, so what kind of card would i choose to run a game thats more graphically demanding than MVP, such as Battlefield 2142?

Any of the series I mentioned previously or higher would work well with current Dx9 generation games. But have you heard of Crysis? If not search for the HD Dx10 trailer for it. That will be out this Summer/Fall. If you're not all that worried about Dx10 in the near future, than I say save some money now and just get a good Dx9 video card for now.

There are a few budget series Dx10 cards, such as the Nvidia 8600. Check that cards performance for the games you wish to play now, if its acceptable, you could get that, and it is a Dx10 compatible card. Of course there is no way to tell how well a budget Dx10 card will run a Dx10 game in the future.

Check this full article, particularly this page with BF2142 benchmarks. It appears out of the three, the ATI 1900XT faired better than the Nvidia 8600.

It all depends on your budget. If you can afford a high end Dx10 card, they will more than likely perform better than the older Dx9 cards. If you can only afford a mid-range card, it's best to check the benchmarks. In the end, buy what works for you now and you'll enjoy, and you can always upgrade to Dx10 later when you so desire.

Edit:

Had to clump BF2142 together, otherwise the forum says something like Boyfriend 2142, now that would be a very different game! :D

No, I hadn't heard of Crysis, but after searching for and finding the HD game trailers I'm very impressed. I know that a Dx10 card would be what i need to make that game look as good as possible, but I'm not too interested in Dx10 cards as of yet. Vista is needed to use a Dx10 card, and I'm in no hurry to switch from XP to Vista, seeing as though its not as "stable" as it will be in the future. Eventually I will make the switch, and then I'll purchase a Dx10 card, but for right now I'd be more than happy with a Dx9 card, as almost any card would be an upgrade over my RADEON x300 SE.

Thank You for the link to that article. A couple of months ago, I had my eye on This Video Card, but after seeing those results I think I'll look for a 1900 XT.

Wait, wait... wait :) The article I showed you had three cards.

Nvidia 8600GTS

ATI 1950 PRO

ATI 1900 XT

The XT series always tend to perform better than the PRO series. The lower numbered 1900 performed better because it was a XT class. If you match up a 1950 and a 1900 of the same class, the higher number is the better card. So a 1950 XT should perform better than a 1900 XT. The product link you provide is a 1950 XT, so you made a good choice. :)

If you going for the 8600GTS, might as well dish out some more bucks for a 8800GTS 320MB. That 128 bit memory bus is a turn off.

Personally, I think I would wait for ATI to release their lower end card in July, to see if you can get some deals.

No problem, I'm glad I could help.

I agree about the 8800GTS 320, that's definitely a good card. I've seen the 8800GTS 640MB cards going for $50 more than the 320MB. I would save just a bit more for twice the buffer, but that's me. And yes 128 bit memory bus is a turn off.

I'd like ATI to release a quality product, but if their HD 2900 XT is their new trend, we have a problem. These suckers need a lot of power. The card manufacturers need to make more energy efficient GPUs, I don't want to run my computer off of a backup generator one day. :)

correct me if im wrong, but isn't the 7300 a nuked chip? you'd be better off getting a 6800, i'd just shed the extra bucks for a 7800GTX (I have it) Also, you should get a core 2 duo by intel. In my opinion, that computer cost more than it's worth, you'd be better off building your own, or even try the prices here: www.ibuypower.com
