Pre-season statement from General Manager

DETROIT --- April 1st, 2007

1110831937_8016.jpg

"We open the season will a ton of injuries to our team with nine players on the disabled list to start the season. As of right now, the ownership is not committed to making a trade to add to the team so we will go forward with the best team we can put together from our regular projected opening day lineup and a number of players from our system to fill the gaps for the time being. We've signed a few guys as contingency plans with major league experience in case we endure further injuries, but I hope it won't come down to that.

Our starting third baseman, Troy Glaus, is also a bit banged up but will not require a stay on the disabled list as of right now. He has a bit of a heal injury but that can only be corrected with likely season-ending surgery. He feels that he does not need the surgery and can play through it as well as he can. He seemed to be doing pretty well through the latter stages of spring training and we feel confident that he can. Of course, he will have to be rested a couple of games a week if it flares up again.

We will start in Detroit tomorrow and hope the young kids can live up to their potential and help to carry this team forward until some of our regulars return or the ownership decides it's time to make a trade (or two) to fill some of the gaps."

sweet. Bring up Litsch, and take out Okha, he's trash.

Litsch started the season in AA, so he'll begin there. It's likely that I will replace Ohka when one of the other starters comes off the DL or he stinks up the place. As of right now, he still is on the team so I won't do anything with him other than place him in the bullpen.

I've hit about a bit of a blip in the road as my dynasty is crashing to the desktop when I try to play game 1 in Detroit. I'm not quite sure what the problem is.

EDIT: I simmed game 1 and tried to play game 2, but it also crashed.

nah but it works in exhibition mode which is the part that really confuses me.. as soon as I click to play the game after selecting uniform it just crashes almost immediately

A couple changes now to make up for the recent moves:

INF Ryan Roberts > AAA

INF Howie Clark (AA) > MLB

LF Adam Lind will now start vs. LHP's and bat 8th

RP Jamie Vermilyea > AAA

Tomo Ohka > LR

I will not do minor injuries where the player misses 2-3 weeks anymore; only long term injuries.

Halladay, Vento, Duncan, Berroa will not be placed on the DL

OK I got the first game in. It was a 4-1 loss to Detroit. Halladay was not sharp and gave up 12 hits and 4 runs in 6 2/3 innings. The Jays offense only mustered 5 hits (2 from Lind) in the contest and Royce Clayton drove in the lone run in the top of the 2nd inning to give the Jays the first lead of the game. The momentum was killed however when Carlos Guillen stroked a one-out home run in the bottom of the frame to tie it up. Bonderman settled in after the 3rd and shut down the Jays from there.

WP: Jeremy Bonderman (1-0)

LP: Roy Halladay (0-1)

SV: Todd Jones (1)

HR: Carlos Guillen (1)

Players of the game:

DET Ivan Rodriguez (2/4, 2B, 2 RBI)

TOR Adam Lind (2/4, 2B)

Notes: I'll have pictures and stuff for the next game. I'm really surprised it worked. Anyway, I seem to have found the problem it was Mark Redman. I signed him on Texas and modified his salary in MVPEditor. That caused the crash before. This is due to his all-star status.

I got clobbered by the Tigers in game 2 7-0. Verlander threw a complete game shutout with 12 K's. Again, the Jays only had 5 hits, but this time no runs. The Tigers did the bulk of their damage in the 7th and 8th innings, scoring 3 times in each of them. Burnett went 7 innings and allowed 5 runs (4 earned), 1 of which scored when Brian Tallet gave up a 3-run home run to Ivan Rodriguez after he took over for Burnett with no outs and a runner on.

WP: Justin Verlander

LP: A.J. Burnett

SV: None

HR: DET: Casey (1), Rodiguez (1). TOR: None

The co-players of the game were Ivan Rodriguez and Justin Verlander.

Next up: The Jays will try to salvage one game of this series when Shaun Marcum takes the hill against Nate Robertson in the series finale.

Next up: 3 games in Tampa Bay

Game 1: Janssen vs. TBA

Just a short blurb.. I'm getting tired. I split the first two games in Tampa.

Game 1:

Casey Janssen was sharp early but got roughed up in the 7th for 3 runs on 2 homers, after being giving a 2-0 lead. The offense was almost absent in this game despite the high hit total off Rays starter J.P. Howell (10) as the Jays lost 3-2. Rios had a solo home run and Hill drove in the other Jays run on the night. Tampa only had 5 hits in the contest but managed to get the win.

Game 2:

Dustin McGowan pitched a great game going 7 innings and allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits in a 5-2 victory over Tampa. Edwin Jackson was very wild and even had 2 pickoff errors in the top of the first that lead to the first Jays run. The leadoff walk to Alex Rios came in to count in the frame. The Jays added 2 runs in each of the 5th and 8th innings. Jays closer Jason Frasor picked up his first save of the season in a perfect ninth inning.

Coming up in game 3:

Roy Halladay (0-1) will take on Scott Kazmir (1-0). Halladay wasn't very sharp in his season debut vs. Detroit and he'll look to rebound. Kazmir threw 8 innings in his first start and allowed just 2 runs in a win. A Jays victory ensures the series and squares their record at 3-3.

Just another thing of note. I'm gonna wait until the Jays decide what to do about Lyle Overbay before I make a move. He'll be lost 4-6 weeks with a broken hand. They have an off-day tomorrow. Matt Stairs is likely to get the bulk of the starts at 1B in his absence.

Game 3 report:

Both Kazmir and Halladay were sharp, but it was a 3-1 Jays victory in the rubber match of the series. Halladay went 8 innings allowing just 1 run. Kazmir allowed 2 of the 3 runs, the third came off J.P. Howell who came in relief despite starting 2 days ago. The big blow was a triple from Vernon Wells that gave the Jays the lead in the 7th inning. The Jays have now squared their record at 3-3.

Next up:

The home opener vs. the Kansas City Royals Burnett-Marcum-Janssen are slated to be the Jays starters in the series.
