The Season: 07 Jays Dynasty

Played the first two games vs. KC

Game 1:

TOR 3, KC 2

Vernon Wells and Troy Glaus went back-to-back to give the Jays a 2-0 lead after Burnett worked out of a bases loaded no out situation. KC scratched their way back to tie but Wells again came through in the 6th inning with a 2-out double to give the Jays a 3-2 lead and the bullpen would hold on for the win. The third consecutive for the team.

WP- A.J. Burnett (1-1)

LP- Brian Bannister (0-2)

Game 2:

TOR 1, KC 0

Shaun Marcum and Luke Hudson each threw up absolute gems. Hudson was throwing a perfect game into the 7th inning when Troy Glaus broke it up with a 2-out double. He would be left stranded, however, on a great running catch off the bat of Lyle Overbay by right fielder Mark Teahen. The ball looked like it was going to be lined into the corner but Teahen made a great play to get to it. Marcum would complete 9 shutout innings for the second consecutive game before Alex Rios delivered a walk off home run in the bottom of the 9th to give the Jays the series win.

WP- Shaun Marcum (2-0)

LP- Luke Hudson (0-1)

Next up:

Odalis Perez takes on Casey Janssen (1-0) in the series finale as the Jays go for the sweep. They will then welcome Detroit for a 4-game weekend set.

Dynasty update:

I haven't done all the layout stuff so at least for the time being it will be all text-based with some screenys.

I will be making the following moves prior to the next game:

1. Lyle Overbay will go on the 15-day DL with a fractured hand

2. I will have to recall someone from Syracuse since the team decided to finally recall Thigpen and use him as a third string catcher/RHB off the bench/utility man

3. I'm probably going to swing a trade and get rid of either Ohka or Towers in the near future, more likely Ohka. He's just rotting away as the 12th man in my bullpen and I have yet to use him at all. All of the other guys in the bullpen have gotten into a game or two in the first 8.

4. Rumor has it that an actual trade is being made in real life to clear up a roster spot for Thigpen (probably Thomson or Zambrano are being moved)

Standings update:

In case you're not keeping track I'm 5-3 through 8 games and am now in a 2-way tie; a half game back of Boston (5-2) for the AL East lead.

I haven't decided on a proper name for it yet which is why I haven't changed it.

Janssen and co. complete sweep of Royals

Final Score: TOR 4, KC 1

Casey Janssen was absolutely dominant in shutting down the Kansas City Royals in the series finale to complete a rare sweep. The win was the Jays fifth consecutive. Unlike most of the Jays victories this season, they did not hit a single home run. The Jays won with timely hitting and a total of six doubles, two of which came off the bat of Troy Glaus who drove in a pair of runs. Frank Thomas and Aaron Hill drove in the other two Blue Jay runs in a 4-1 final. The Royals scored their lone run off Janssen in the eighth inning when pinch-hitter Reggie Sanders lined a one-out single up the middle to score Esteban German who had led off the inning with a double.

Janssen took a no-hitter into the sixth before having it broken up on a basehit deflected off his foot into foul territory after a runner had already reached first on a fielding error by Aaron Hill, his third of the season. Janssen finished up with a very good line of eight innings pitched, three hits, one run, no walks and three strikeouts. He improves to 1-1. Jason Frasor closed out the game with a perfect inning for his fourth save of the season.

BASERUNNING

---------------------------------------------
From the Nest Glaus: "I'm starting to find my groove at the plate lately. I've been trying to do too much in the beginning of the season and it's been causing me to roll over the ball. I've been working with (hitting coach) Mickey Brantley a lot to figure out the problem and I think we've found it. It helps also that they had an inexperienced lefty on the mound tonight." Janssen: "It's a bit cliche but I was just trying to mix in different pitches and to keep the ball down. For the most part I keep them off-balance with that method. Late last season I was struggling to keep it down." Gibbons on Rios: "He's a good hitter but he's struggling a little bit there with the bat. He'll come around. He hit a home run for us yesterday and a double off the wall today. The hits will come around. He's definitely a very talented guy. I don't think we'll move him down in the lineup just yet. From the way he's hitting lately, it'll only be a matter of time before he comes out of it." Next up The American League champion Detroit Tigers come into town for a rematch of the season-opening series. Chad Durbin (0-1) is scheduled to oppose the Blue Jays in game one against young fireballer Dustin McGowan (1-0). AL East Standings

Jays take opener vs. AL Champs, extend streak to 6

Final score: TOR 4, DET 2

game10od8.jpg

Left: Aaron Hill pulls an inside pitch just inside the foul pole for his first homer of the season in the 7th.

Middle: Vernon Wells smacks a solo home run to straight-away center field in the 8th.

Right: Curtis Thigpen guns down Ivan Rodriguez trying to steal 2nd in the 9th.

The Jays got it done with solid pitching and timely hitting as they defeated the Detroit Tigers 4-2. The Tigers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a two out basehit from Marcus Thames to score Curtis Granderson who had doubled to lead off the game. That would be the only run Dustin McGowan allowed in seven solid innings. Toronto tied the game in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Adam Lind scoring Royce Clayton.

In the sixth inning, the Jays would take the lead when Adam Lind scored all the way from second on a missed catch error by Tigers center fielder Curtis Granderson on a ball off the bat of Troy Glaus. The Tigers committed three errors in the game, two by Neifi Perez who started at third today. Aaron Hill and Vernon Wells each hit a solo home run in the seventh and eighth innings respectively as the Jays won 4-2. Gary Sheffield hit a solo home run in the eighth off reliever Jeremy Accardo to make it 3-2 but it wasn't enough as Jason Frasor closed it out for his fifth save. The Jays have now won six consecutive games after opening the season 1-3.

WP: Dustin McGowan (2-0)

LP: Chad Durbin (0-2)

SV: Jason Frasor (5)

Out the Nest McGowan: "I had trouble hitting my fastball over for strikes so I had to mix in more breaking pitches to keep them off-balance. I really had my sinker going today and was getting a lot of groundballs off it it." Gibbons: "Alex (Rios) needed a night off so I decided to give (Howie) Clark some playing time as well against a right-hander. He's a pretty good veteran hitter and it gives us another lefty in the lineup." AL East Standings

I dunno... they're 15-8 since Halladay was placed on the DL in May... and tonight was an insane come from behind win over Tampa.. 11-6 coming into the 9th and a 12-11 victory!

Bad news... my computer crashed and I lost my dynasty .sav file. So until I get my computer problems out of the way completely, I won't be playing anymore games for a little while. Probably a week or so.
