BigDaddyCool
This is to decide who to put on the AL All-Star roster for our All-Timer roster project. Write-in candidates are also welcome.
Homer
i can't believe jeter's on there and not a-rod but we're now opening up a can of worms! sure hope these things don't turn into flame wars.
Sean O
Cal Ripken. No doubt. Plus, he had the 2nd best season in baseball history, and the best one post-war.
TwentySeven
Agreed, if you count A-Rod here, take my vote away from Jeter and put it for A-Rod.

abhall
Cal Ripken. No doubt. Plus, he had the 2nd best season in baseball history, and the best one post-war. Write in for Alex Rodriguez Arod 146 OPS + Ripken 112 OPS + Ripken's logetivity speaks for itself and Arod only played 8 seasons at SS; however, the difference in their offense is too much for me not to want Arod as my AL SS. Sean O
Aparicio was horrible. Boudreau had a 120 OPS+, Cronin a surprised 119, Jeter's a great hitter DQed because of his lead glove and zero range, Rizzuto shouldn't even be there, and Trammell was pretty darn good and should be in the hall. Also, Rodriguez's switch to 3B should DQ him from consideration, imho. Ripken had this: 1). The Streak, 2). longevity, 3). 1991, and 4). defense. Adding all this together, I'd put Cal over Boudreau by a hair. Boudreau might even be better defensively, but Cal should be the choice.
fred13
how is Omar Vizquel, not there.
Sean O
Omar Vizquel is a far, far, far below average shortstop. OPS+ of 84, not even close. Defensively he can't even touch the Wizard, so why bother?
BigPaPa
right now its ripken A-Rod can easily overtake rupken if he leaves the yanks and moves back to shortstop after this year but idk if thats gonna happen

abc006
Ripken's defense isn't necessarily superior to A-Rod's. A-Rod here for me.
maxbjr
maybe in a few years jeter or arod can over take ripkin, but not right now
