thr33niL
I personally was disappointed to say the least. Not because it wasn't visually stunning.. it was. Why then? The ending killed the whole movie for me! Like a lot of the reviewers that didn't like it (check out rottentomatoes.com), I went to it expecting to see a grandioso finish to a great trilogy and ended up getting another extension to the series. I swear, the last 15 minutes of the film was nothing but a poorly done segway in trying to peak interest in a completely unrelated 'next installment'. WHAT! Ruined the film by not provide anything resembling closure to a series that really needed it. I walked out not wanting to ever see it again and, honestly, not really interested in seeing the next one. It is Disney I guess. Whatever it takes to milk this cow for all its worth. kgbaseball
I saw it last night, and I feel the exact same way. The series went downhill from the first one; 2 and 3 weren't even close to matching it. One thing I didn't like is how confusing the movie could be for almost all kids. They just sort of throw all the Brethren Court, 9 Pieces of 8, etc. all together and expect people to understand what it is. And how stupid was the Calypso scene when she turned into crabs or whatever? Awful. Kiera Knightley was amazingly hot in this movie, though. It would've been interesting to see which way the series went if Disney didn't control it.
thr33niL
Forgot to mention that KG. Kiera Knightly and her *super tan* was pretty damn smokin'. I swear, she was about 8 shades darker than she was in the last two movies. haha. I actually liked part two. Mostly because it built towards a grand finish in part three (yeah didn't happen). In hindsight though we probably can log this in the 'Matrix' category. Meaning sequels were made that never should have been. Tarnishing the greatness of the original movie. redsox
I honestly felt that the first one was the best of the 3 but I gotta agree - the 3rd one was definitely stunning. The only thing I am confused about is calypso. So was she the one that caused the maelstrom? And Will becoming the captain of the flying dutchman was something I never expected. Oh and Knightley was absolutely stunning.
lautrec
Yep, I really loved the first two --- and agreed that this one has all the visual bells and whistles you could possibly shake a stick at, I felt confused about 2/3 of the time. I've been trying to convince myself I liked it, but it ain't happening. Knightly was indeed the highlight, I must admit. Also, did you notice the expanded role the two goofballs (th skinny guy with the wooden eye, and his chubby buddy) got this time? I guess it was OK for comic relief.
