jgerken
Hi all, Need some help please. We're in the process of upgrading to a new Vista box and need to get my son's favorite game migrated over. But I've encountered a couple problems: 1) His disk 1 apparently is trashed. During install, it hangs extracting data/models.big from compressed.zip. Is there a way to obtain just disk 1, or perhaps even just this file if there is a way to burn a new one myself with the new file? 2) My son would like me to preserve all his existing settings on the game (his created players, MVP points, opened players, custom rosters, etc. Is there a defined way of doing so? Thanks for your help. John
MarkB
Hi John, welcome to the forums. I'll answer your second question first because it's a hell of a lot easier. If you're just migrating the game over from XP to Vista, you can just copy the rootProgram FilesEA SportsMVP Basebal 2005 folder from the XP install over to the Vista install. To keep the MVP Points etc., copy the MVP Baseball 2005 folder from My Documents on the XP install to the Vista install. Actually, while typing that, I just remembered Vista uses "Documents" and "Computer" as opposed to "My Documents" and "My Computer", so you might need to check that out further. As long as the game profile is stored in rootDocuments and SettingsUserMy DocumentsMVP Baseball 2005, it should work. Now, as for your first question, the general consensus seems to be that you're out of luck. There have been a lot of threads on this in the past, pretty much all with the same problem, and a few ideas have been thrown out, but I don't recall seeing any that have worked. A quick forum search for the word "scratch" yields 27 results, and you might want to try looking through a few of them for some ideas (backup programs such as Alcohol 120% have been mentioned a few times, but it's somewhat of a convoluted process), however, you might find that the end result will be a trip to eBay to get a new copy of the game. Either way, good luck. :)
