I had an issue awhile back where I needed the recovery disk for XP. However, when I bought my Dell from hell it did not come with that disk. So I had to drive 2 hours to my hometown, burn a copy from my brothers, and then drive back. Long day but it fixed my issue.

This is from Microsoft and it looks pretty crappy

Hope all is well in the end. I take it you have a backup computer if you were able to post here. Might want to search for that error and see how other people have recovered from it.

The last thing I installed was I think a Update for Windows then once I downloaded I had to restart the computer.

I restarted and then it starts off with this mess.

I dont have a XP Recovery Disk, never got one from BestBuy in 2001.

And this, people, is why you should never accept any form of MRI scheme on your system, despite the fact that it will lower the price of the system.

Amen, MarkB.

Jolan, you have a corrupted Registry. Try System Restore back to a point before the MS update. But don't get your hopes up because System Restore sucks and should be used as a last resort before reformatting and reinstalling the Operating System, the latter of which is my advice if you want to continue on with a trouble free system. There may be a backup copy of XP on your hard drive, but I would consider purchasing a new copy. And never buy a new computer unless it comes with a copy of the Operating System on CD/DVD.

Remember to take my advice at your own risk.

well i knwo of ways to fix this if it is only one regestry key missing but if you whole thing is corrupted you might be outa luck

some systems also have a restor to factory settings function

dig through your manual (probably available online) see if you can find any info o it also might trey pressing all your "f+#" button usually f3 or f9 would activate it but idk also might try a boot disc
