Deeper baseball game?

Not that i am not enjoying MVP07 (thanks modders!) But i was curious if a game existed that got down and dirty with the lower levels of Minor league baseball. Not necissarily a game, i rmember a title called Baseball Mogul a few years back that just simmed games but was kind of a constant Owner Mode, i remember it going deeper than most games of the time. A realistic Draft system (more than just having it at the right time of year!) and Short Season teams, etc would be cool, as well as developmental leagues and all the other options teams have with their players (draft-and-follows, foreign free agents).

Does such a game exist?

OOTPB is not MLB approved is it? I went to check it out and they all look like generic teams and players? Is this right? Or are there mods to make it true to life with players and organizations??

baseball mogul 2006 is a free download and has rosters accurate with the MLB as of the day it was released.

The only other actual baseball games that I remember having a minor league system and being a real deep game was the High Heat series....oh how i miss thee....

But the minors were not playable. Better game, though, that is for sure.

That's what i get for starting a thread when i'm overtired. I found Mogul 08 for download (no shipping) on www.gamersgate.com Does anyone have any insight on this title? I read most of the reviews but it ddn't really tell me everything i wanted to know.

Is Out of the Park a sim or a playable game?

And i guess the most important question, does anyone play AND enjoy these games? I am an admitted geek with numbers and minor league rosters constantly floating through my head, but can it really become a "game"?

i dunno if stat geek would correctly qualify me. I might just be a geek.

Going forward, has anyone heard about the possibility of a game like our beloved MVP adding levels of minors or getting more involved in the way the business of the game is set up?

It seems like MVP's Owner Mode is a forgotten feature, and rightfully so. I don't see a ton of Mods for it, i don't see many people playing it. I think the reason for it is simple: The starting conditions are ridiculous! What Major League team has to add on to their stadium year after year? The stadiums are a big turnoff, since they all end up being generic anyway, no character like the RL parks. It is a shame, too because there are some really salvagable features like drafting your staff. I don't suppose there is a MOD where that can be done in regular dynasty?

I'm considering picking up one or both titles suggested in this thread, thanks for all your help guys. Can anyone compare/contrast the two games?

Well you can use Lahman's database to import any teams (accurate rosters) beginning in 1901. And I actually love this game. I have only been playing the freeware version (OOTP 5) but that itself is awesome. You can actually play with players from the past and the present. Its is definitely a big statistical game.

I used to like Baseball Mogul but OOTP is a league about it - IMO; and I am thankful that there is a full version of the game, free of charge.

yes you can download real life rosters and pictures etc... ..the player ratings are based on their statistics for whichever year you choose...

search for OOTP mods...etc and you can find it.

here is a link to an example of a league that I was in from the beginning...it started with 2003 rosters but is now up to the year 2019 i think.. im no longer in it due to time.. but you can definitely find openings in an online league..

most leagues require you to have version 6.5 however.. so like thats like 19.99 or 29.99..not sure currently.

I started the Cubs Dynasty in this league..=)

Dang i might have a new hobby here! Thanks for your help guys.

Has anyone heard development plans for next-generation baseball games, PC or PS3 for example, that go deeper into player development? Not sims, more like MVP (would we call that "arcade"?)

Actually here's the free version:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/article.php?newsid=396

The 05 version in the previous link isn't to the free version (Or atleast, I couldn't find it)

Thanks for the heads up about the free version. I had downloaded the demo to the latest version, but was real busy and only was able to play it once before it ran out :( And after expierencing how in depth it is, I wasn't able to play Baseball Mogul again.

n00bish modding question:

Is it possible to make some sort of extractor that goes between these games in the offseason, making them into MVPEdit files for use in a normal dynasty on MVP?
